Description
Elves are typically viewed as calm, collected, and mysterious beings. Those who have lived with elves have learned that this is not entirely true. While elves can live well with other races they have a tendency towards violent and territorial behavior, especially towards other races of elves. This behavior is exemplified by the focus on martial traditions found in every elvish culture, regardless of geography or cultural history. The belief that elves are passive and peaceful primarily comes from the notion that elves don't hold grudges because their long lifespans give them the perspective that such things are not important. This actually comes from the elvish belief that slights from short lived races aren't worth bothering with, as they are more likely to forget the slight if they even realize they had done anything wrong in the first place. When it comes to other elves, they can be incredibly petty and often hold grudges for centuries over comparatively small events. As a result, the history of the elvish nations of the Silverhand Isles is steeped in bloodshed and racial hatred. Because of this, it's unusual for different subraces of elves to be seen together, though there are a few exceptions.
Adventurers: Everyone knows adventuring groups often are made up of all kinds of peoples. From time to time, a group will, for one reason or another, have elves of different backgrounds. This often leads to conflict early on, though it is possible to overcome the inherent territorial behavior as the elves work together in combat.
Moon Elves: Many of the stereotypes surrounding elves comes from the moon elves. Descended from the High Elves of the Silverhand Isles, the first Moon Elves were diplomats who traveled to Ironhelm to establish contact with the other mortal races. Eventually the Moon Elves grew distant from their homeland, and the generations slowly forgot about their hatred towards the other elvish races. Being founded by diplomats, cooperation and compromise is a cornerstone of Moon Elf culture. Despite being tucked away in the enchanted forest, being on the same landmass as many other mortal races has lead to the Moon Elves interacting with other races much more frequently than other elves. In addition, they are less likely to react violently to the presence of other elf races. Though they may have revoked the violent ways of their ancestors, the Moon Elves still uphold the martial practices of the High Elves as a means of performance art and meditation.
Sun Elves: Like the Moon Elves, the Sun Elves are the descendants of elves who wished to escape the violence of the Silverhand Isles, and settled in the northern continent of Elthander. However, unlike Moon Elves, the first Sun Elves were a collection of different subraces of elves from all over the Silverhand Isles. Because of this, most Sun Elves are a mix of the three elvish races of Silverhand. Though the Sun Elves set out to live in a world where all elvish peoples could live together in peace, it's not always easy to resist the violent urges typical of elves. Luckily, the other races who inhabit Elthander can act as mediators when things get too heated. The leadership of Elthander is always looking for good ways to redirect the violent and energetic behavior of the elvish population towards something constructive in order to prevent infighting.
Attempts to repress violent behavior have proven unsuccessful, and often lead to aggressive outbursts and irritability. However, partaking in sparring, competitive sports, and hunting have been shown to reduce the odds of aggressive behavior.
