Description
1. Draw out basic lines for where you would like the scales to go. I usually try to follow the creature's outline, keeping aware of muscles and wings, etc.2. Next, draw half "crescent" moons down each scale-line.
3. Add detail to each scale by making a small V in the middle inside of each scale.
4. Color in the small V inside each scale. I usually color these darker, unless otherwise specified.
5. Add shading to ONE side of each scale. I usually shade the upper half. Keep aware of lighting: If the light-source in your image is above the creature, the shading should be on the lower half of the scales, and vice versa. Shading helps the creature "pop" out.
6. Finished product.
