CHAPTER 15: THE MEMORIES, THE PROMISE, AND THE RETURN__________“Dialga...” I started. “Is there a way for me, Ken, and Kinichi to return to the human world?”
“WELL OF COURSE!” Dialga said without hesitation, giving the statement it's true nature. “OF COURSE, IT WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE DIMENSIONS ARE FIXED AND EVERYTHING IS SOLVED. WHY ASK NOW?”
I ignored his question and asked my second one. “If we do go back, is it possible for us to come back here?”
Dialga took longer than I would have preferred to answer. “CURRENTLY, THERE IS NO WAY FOR YOU THREE TO BE ABLE TO COME BACK HERE. AND IF MONFERNO WERE TO GO WITH YOU THERE WOULD BE NOW WAY FOR HIM TO RETURN HERE.”
I was afraid of that...I looked down and tried to hide disappointment. I turned for the portal and Dialga stopped me.
“BUT DON'T LOSE HOPE. IT MAY NOT BE FOR A LITTLE WHILE, BUT I PROMISE TO FULFILL YOUR WISH. IT WILL BE YOUR REWARD FOR DOING THIS FOR OUR WORLD, A WORLD YOU WEREN'T EVEN BORN IN.”
“I live here now, too.” I said. “I would defend this place, even if it meant death for me, even though I'm actually human, because now this is just as much my home as the human world is. And I would rather you treat this as a favor to a friend, not the prize money for being a hero.”
I stepped through the portal without hearing Dialga's response and met with my friends. Ken was by my side as usual, Chimchar was a little ways away from us, and Kinichi was in my face about our new adventure and how exciting it was going to be. Dialga's answer to my question set me in a little bit of a mood, but I shook it off and lived to my side of the deal. I was going to save this world and go home with Ken and Kinichi, waving a temporary good-bye to Chimchar and telling Mom and Onii-san about my months here, even though I know they would never believe me.
I turned to Chimchar and asked him where north was. He led the pack up through town and into the wide open, mix-match field full of grass, ice, sand, and empty space below the depressing shade of purple that is the sky. Ken stayed in the middle of us, next to me, of course, while Chimchar used his knowledge of the area to guide us north up in the front and Kinichi shaking in anticipation on the other side of Ken.
I felt a little different. Not like I'm about to evolve again or anything, just different. Before all of this, I was more of the quiet one. Then, I came here and was the biggest scared-y cat you could find in a pokemon or human. I felt this change before, when I finally stuck up for myself and fought for mine and Ken's lives at the Cubone Dojo. I was growing up, maturing. I felt more confidence and mature. Even though I was only 15, I felt 25, already past college and ready for life.
I remembered to take time off of my thoughts to step over any pieces of land missing from the ground, or to concentrate hard not to slip on the ice. There was an eerie feeling about here and that was probably because there were no pokemon whatsoever here. I haven't seen any pokemon since we were transported here. Were they all dead, after suffering major defeat at the hand of Grovyle and Dusknoir while protecting the dimensional orbs? Or did they find refuge and were slowly starving and waiting for the miracle of miracles to happen again, like they did when time was stopping. Thinking of them scared me and encouraged me at the same time. We are literally the only ones who has a chance to stop Darkrai. Even Dialga and Ninetails wouldn't be able to perform this task. Dialga has to stay at Temporal Tower to make sure it doesn't go anywhere and Ninetails needs to be with Dialga to assist any attacks on Temporal Tower-which I'm sure there will be some, considering Darkrai would only benefit from Dialga and Ninetails dieng.
We reached a giant meadow filled with flowers and maple trees. This was one of those few lucky areas that was preserved of it's beauty in this place of all places. We had already walked half a day's walk by reaching this meadow and we decided to take a rest before we get too tired. Kinichi started to tense and her eyes squinted at something all the way across the meadow. “I can't see too clearly, but someone is there, and they look familiar. There's four of them and they all look mighty powerful.” I had to wonder who would hold a grudge against us of all of the people they met in their travels. Only two came to mind, Grovyle and Dusknoir, but they should be figuring that we are dead and have been dead since their attacks on us. I have no idea who the other two are supposed to be, but they were moving forward and as they became closer Kinichi identified them as Grovyle, Dusknoir, a Venasaur, and a Blastoise. I figured that this was the first of a series of last tests before we went to fight Darkrai, so I prepared for battle and called everyone into my head to formulate a plan.
