FINAL CHAPTER-CHAPTER 17: THE BATTLE TO SAVE SPACE____We faced Palkia in a staring contest sort of thing. None of us talked, and none of us moved. We starred at each other, seriousness never leaving our face. Palkia was purple with yellow lines running throughout his body. The orbs on his shoulders were black, where Darkrai was probably hiding in, controlling Palkia, like last time.
“SO,” Palkia started, his voice ringing in my ears after he spoke “YOU FINALLY CONFRONT ME? I THOGHT THOSE FOUR WERE ENOUGH TO FINISH YOU! FINE, THEN, YOU WILL PARISH AT MY HANDS!”
“Not if we can help it!” I yelled back. “NOW!”
We dashed forward, me and Kinichi jumped in the air and Ken and Monferno ran on the ground. I charged at him with drill peck, Kinichi flew to the side of him and let out a strong heat wave. Ken absorbed into the shade and Monferno charged in with flame wheel. Palkia only grinned and first grabbed me with both hands and threw me aside. Then, he used ice beam at heat wave to render it powerless. Afterwards he whapped his tail to the ground, causing a tremor. That sent Monferno into the air. He swung his tail like a baseball bat and used Monferno as a baseball. As this happened, Ken jumped up out of shadow sneak, getting confused with the tremors up above, and Monferno crashed into him. I figured this wasn't going to be easy, but already we were off to a horrible start.
Whats the plan now Saori? Ken asked, recovering from Monferno's re-directed attack.
I don't really have one, so just start attacking him. Well go from there. We are trying on-the-fly combos. I responded, unsure of what exactly to do as far as plans went. I sent steel wing at Palkia and drove in with drill peck again while Kinichi repeatedly dive bombed him with dragon claw. Palkia's speed was pretty low, but he was quick when coming up with counter-attacks. His problem was definitely his speed, though. Steel wing got his from behind, thanks to Kinichi's distraction, and I got him in the side with drill peck after he turned around. I landed on my feet and noticed Ken's shadow sneaking up under Palkia. I got an idea of how to do major damage to him.
Chimchar, Kinichi! I started Use your fire attacks after I get him with drill peck again.
Got it! Monferno responded with understanding.
Just tell us when! Was Kinichi's
Ken! Go ahead and hit him with all you got! Send him into the air!
Ken did as I asked and with as much power as he could muster, and with his energy focused on his head, which was apparent when he popped out of the ground, and sent Palkia a surprising distance into the air. I drove drill peck into his back higher into the air. Kinichi! Get you and Chimchar up there now! I saw Kinichi zoom up much higher than I was and I finally turned away to climb myself a little higher into the air. Kinichi and Monferno blasted Palkia with their respective fire moves, heat wave and flamethrower, and sent Palkia into the ground. I fired a hydro cannon and smashed him with it. When the beam disappeared and I could see the damage we caused, Palkia was gone! I landed on my feet, the impact stinging a little. I felt a strike at my back and I fell to the ground. I saw Kinichi and Monferno plummeting to the ground, Kinichi's wings frozen in blocks of ice. I got up and was struck down again, next to Ken, who was also hit by Palkia. Where was it coming from? Ken put protect over us and I watched Monferno get hit again by Palkia through a weird portal. Of course! Palkia is the master of dimensions. It would only make sense for him to be able to travel through them. The problem now was how to attack him while he is in another dimension.
I got another idea. Everyone! Huddle back-to-back! When I give the signal, jump backwards! Ken traveled his protect to everyone and we huddled up, our backs facing each other. I listened very carefully. I hear a small fwoom! Behind us and gave the command. We jumped backwards and I hit Monferno and Ken. Kinichi was nowhere to be found. The plan worked. One of us was no in the other dimension fighting Palkia. At least one of us could. The best part was it was Kinichi, who would be the best one in this situation for the job. Kinichi! Can you hear me?
…...............
No response. Seems like I can't communicate her when we are in different dimensions. Now posed the problem. How was she to get back? Just then, I felt the ground beneath me disappear and the three of us fell into never-ending darkness. Then, in a split second, we were in blinding light. Then fire, then water, then electricity. We were being sent into dimension after dimension. Sudden jolys of pain were being sent throughout my body the more we were flipped through dimensions. Eventually, the jolts of pain became excruciating, it felt like I was being torn. Ken and Monferno next to me were feeling the pain. I couldn't help but let out a scream. Ken and Monferno couldn't help but keep their screams in their head, which I could hear just as clearly as if they were screaming out loud. By the time we were back in the dimension we were originally in, Kinichi was with us and Palkia was a few feet away, looking really beat up.
“I WILL NOT LOSE!!!!!!!” He screamed as he shot ice beam at us. Ken threw protect up and we all grouped closer together again. He's weak now! Get him at the pearls! Darkrai should be hidden in there. If we break them all at once then there's no way he can hide in Palkia anymore.
Got it Saori!
Sure thing.
No problem.
I grabbed some dirt and sent myself at him with drill pecked. This time, though, I missed, and let go of the dirt so that it got in his eyes. He roared in pain as the dirt sat on his eyeballs and the four of us got in position, choosing a pear. I launched drill peck, Kinichi released heat wave, Monferno was driving through him with flame wheel, and Ken was crunching at the last. In about two seconds of this, I heard the sound of four cracks in unison. A force of some kind sent us flying backwards and we watched as darkness swallowed us. Scary faces were flashing across the black and I felt my energy draining. Ken beside me started to get smaller, his hair turning from black to brown and it got fluffy-er. He was turning into an eevee! I checked myself and noticed my fins were now that of Piplup! Lets regroup! I hollered at everyone else. Me, Ken, and Kinichi need to launch our energy to get us out of here! We need to repel the darkness! Kinichi, now a Charmander, was running alongside Chimchar. The three of us grabbed hands and focused out energy out of our body as one huge wave. Everything went white and when I could open my eyes we were starring at a weird shape being formed. Darkness was being pulled from several places into one place. In some parts, the darkness extended more than others, forming droopy arms and a head that floated upward with a white tip. No one had to tell me that that was Darkrai, the real one, forming in front of us.
“YOU THINK YOU'VE WON?” Darkrai spoke to us in the most sinister of voices I have ever heard. “THAT WAS ONLY MY PAWN, PALKIA, THAT YOU FOUGHT. I AM THE REAL MASTER BEHIND THIS. I AM MUCH MORE POWERFUL THAN ANY ENEMY YOU HAVE FACED, BY FAR. NOW, PREPARE TO DIE!!!!!!” He lunged at Ken, but Ken simply flashed him with confuse ray. Darkrai flinched and covered his eyes, roaring with anger. “YOU DARE DEFY ME?” he ripped his hands from his eyes and when he tried to attack us, we all jumped in different directions. I threw steel wing at him and everyone else began a flurry of attacks on Darkrai, which he was able to dodge most of the time. He was much quicker than Palkia and just as reflexive, if not more. Plus, he could float, so he had the advantage of the air.
A small flicker of heat wave got him, making him teeter a little bit. This was our chance. I sent more steel wing at him and before I could do anything else, Monferno jumped up from below the ground, his hands glowing. He grabbed Darkrai and half-nelson-ed him in a firm grip. A tiny light cage covered him and Darkrai.
“Saori!” He yelled at us. “Ken! Kinichi! Get him now! Hit him with all of the human energy you got!”
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING? LET GO OF ME YOU BRAT!”
“Monferno!” I yelled back, a little stunned at this sudden burst of heroism. “We might hurt you, too!”
“Doesn't matter! Just do it! I'll live!”
“Don't be a darn hero now!” scolded Kinichi. “There's got to be a better way.”
“This is more effective and we can get it over with now!”
“We must find a different way to take Darkrai out!” Ken yelled, frantically trying to be optimistic.
“I'm using all of the energy I have left to hold him down! I don't know how mch longer I can do this, so do it already! Don't worry about me!”
I didn't hesitate anymore. Monferno was right, it was now or never. I blasted my energy out of my body, forming and arrow with so much energy that I lifted myself off of the ground with the force of it. Ken and Kinichi did the same. I charged all of my energy into the arrow and aimed at Darkrai.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHY ARE YOU GLOWING LIKE THAT? WHAT IS THAT STUFF AROUND YOU?”
“Darkrai,” I started. “you have caused much pain to pokemon everywhere. You took over Dialga and stopped time, nearly killing my friends in the process. Then, you send your little minions out to destroy the dimensional orbs and put everyone in Palkia's domain, who you had taken control of. You've killed countless pokemon and scarred many more with the experiences you made them go through. You are the very definition of a bad pokemon. No, you're more than that, your the definition of evil. Now, may the power of humans vanquish the source of evil from the pokemon world and finish you off once and for all!” Darkrai began squirming in Monferno's grasp.
“NO! SPARE ME! I WON'T BE EVIL ANYMORE! I WON'T HURT ANYONE! I PROMISE! JUST DON'T KILL ME!”
Paying no mind to Darkrai's lies, we all launched ourselves into Darkrai, stabbing him three times through the chest with the strongest known power in the world of pokemon. We drove ourselves right through and turned around as our arrows faded away. Darkrai was in three separate pieces and Monferno was laying on the ground with incredible wounds on him. Our attacks had struck him. He didn't suffer as much damage as Darkrai, but it still didn't look like he could move at all. I ran to his side with Ken and Kinichi following close behind. His eyes were closed and I couldn't see his chest moving.
“Oh, no...” I trailed off, covering my mouth with my hands. Tears welled up on my eyes. Ken moved his paw over Monferno's chest and felt the slightest bit of movement. He then checked his mouth and felt the faintest sort of a breeze coming out of his mouth. His pulse was also very slow tempo-ed upon inspection. He was alive, but barely, and it didn't look like he would make it too long. I tried to muster up some more energy, but I didn't get anything. I used up everything to take out Darkrai. Kinichi beside me tried to help Monferno, too, but also came up dry. The tears in my eyes began to fall. I heard loud footsteps behind us and Palkia was standing there, looking down on Monferno.
“NONE OF YOU WORRY NOW, I'LL MAKE SURE HE LIVES. NO, THIS ISN'T WHERE I HELP OUT. MY JOB IS TO GET DIMENSIONS BACK TO WHERE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE. DIALGA WILL BE HERE SHORTLY AFTER TO HELP YOUR FRIEND.” Palkia's pearls were crack-free I noticed as they lit up enough to blind us. Next thing I knew we were in the plains north of town. Down the hill you had a clear sight of it.
Just like Palkia said, Dialga was here as soon as he was able to to help Monferno recover. “ALL I NEED TO DO IS REVERSE TIME ON HIM A LITTLE BIT, TO BEFORE HE RECEIVED THE WOUNDS.” Dialga focused and the diamond on his chest glowed like Palkia's pearls to create an illusionary clock on Monferno. The clock went backwards a few minutes and I watched as the nearly fatal wounds in him quickly covered before my eyes. “ALL HE NEEDS NOW IS SOME SLEEP.”
“NOW TO GET YOU GUYS HOME...”
“Do we have to leave?” Kinichi asked, disappointed.
“YES, BUT DON'T WORRY. YOU'LL BE ABLE TO GET BACK SOON, I MADE A PROMISE TO A FRIEND THAT I INTEND TO KEEP.”
“Alright!” Kinichi said, a little more hyped up. I felt a part of me feeling all tingly again, like when I was almost sent home at Temporal Tower. I looked down at my fins to find human hands. I knew this was coming. Ken was now standing upright, which looked weird now since he was on all fours for a few months. Kinichi actually shrunk a little, back to her short self. They seemed shocked to see themselves as humans again, but only for a moment as the fact that we've seen much weirder things in our time here to know better than to pay attention to it set in. A giant hole opened up and slowly sucked us in.
“What time will it be in the human world?” I called back before I forgot to ask.
“ABOUT A FEW MINUTES AFTER YOU STEPPED INTO THE LIGHT!” Dialga called back, barely within earshot from us now. We waved good-bye and face upwards to the light at the end of the tunnel that would take us back home, back to the human world that we had missed so much.
