SIDE QUEST CH 7: SAORI’S TEST_____The moment I stepped through the portal with my friends I was alone, again, in some kind of tunnel. Without any fear or hesitation I followed the tunnel’s path and after a couple sharp turns it split into two paths. I randomly chose the left path and came at a dead end. I turned around and chose the other path and after another turn, split into three paths. I chose the path straight ahead which lead to another fork and after choosing the right path, another dead end. When I returned to the fork I was immediately lost. I didn’t know where I was or which turn I did or didn’t make. I realized that this was no ordinary tunnel. It was a maze!
“Well this brings back memories.” I said remembering the maze Kinichi and I went through in Temporal Tower. I tried the same thing I did then. I tried drilling my way through the wall with drill peck to reach the end sooner. When I made contact with the stone wall a slimy coating stopped me and gently placed on the ground.
I have to leave some kind of mark so I don’t get lost I thought to myself as I got up. I thought quickly and laid the tip of my fin with steel wing ready on the dirt ground and dug a deep trench when I walked. At first I chose random turns, letting my trench tell me where I’ve been. When I reached a dead end I turned back and dug a wide line across the trench to remind me that it was a dead end if I ever came back to it. The many turns sent me in many circles and with every circle I drew another wide line to tell me not to go there. Using this method, I was able to draw a line through the maze telling me the right directions to go. Then I would appear at a new fork and the process would start all over. Choosing a random path, meeting dead ends and leaving a thick line to remind me not to go there, it continued. Going in circles, drawing lines, leaving my mark, a trail, to keep me from getting lost.
I thought this maze would never end. With each new fork it took forever to keep myself on a sure path to the exit. As I proceeded the forks had more paths to it. Ranging from four to five, sometimes seven paths each fork. Eventually that forks started to have less paths, usually two or three. I had a feeling I was reaching the end and my suspicions were confirmed when there was nothing but one path to follow with no forks or extra paths at all. I laid off of the steel wing to rest my now dirt-stained fin. It was sore now and the pain from holding steel wing for so long started to come.
Far away, I could see the end. There was no light, it wasn’t any brighter that the maze, but I could see the end of the walls. I raced for the end, happy to get out of here. When I took the first step out of the maze something fell from the ceiling and landed feet first, unharmed, and stopped me where I was. It was probably about twice my size, give or take a couple inches, and I had to strain my neck to see its face. It had three spikes on its head in the shape of a crown and the crown came around its head and formed what looked like an enhancement to my beak to protect it and make it pointier and stronger. It stared down at me and without moving at all it said in a serious tone: “I am Empoleon.
“Technically, I am you soon enough.”
I stared back with confusion and it shook its head.
“Do you know what you have to do now?” Its voice was deep and kind of god-like.
I nodded my head and ran past Empoleon and got in a fighting stance a few feet away from him. I was ready. If I beat Empoleon, I will evolve into Empoleon. Losing was not an option. Empoleon showed the first sign of emotion by smiling an impressed smile got ready itself. We stared each other down, anticipating who was going to make the first move.
I decided that I may as well start and shot a bubblebeam. He easily dodged and charged at me. My mind was already forming a plan as I sent waves of steel wing at him as he charged at me. It didn’t faze him one bit. He dodged them all with lightning speed, which caught me off guard, and threw me in the air with great ease. He covered his body in water and shot himself like a bullet at my immobile body. When he made contact it was like getting hit by a torpedo and the force of the move sent me flying diagonally toward the ground with a loud BAM! I got up in spite of the pain and thought it was time to get serious. I dug myself in the ground with drill peck and found where he was from underground. I fired a bubblebeam straight up and burst another hole in the ground. He couldn’t guard my attack and received a barrage of bubblebeam. It wasn’t strong enough to lift his heavy body off of the ground, but he still received some damage. I jabbed him with steel wing and before I could finish with a drill peck he jumped out of the way and steel winged me to the wall. I picked my head up and I saw that I did almost no damage to his armored body at all. I stared in horror at the lack of damage and he only laughed.
“Didn’t you know?” Empoleon said mockingly “I’m also a steel-type, so your attacks won’t do as much damage as they used to.”
How was I supposed to win? The one chance of an attack I got and it not only back-fired but the damage I did do may as well have never happened. I had to figure out a way to beat Empoleon. Something from around me must be able to help me defeat him. But there was nothing but rocks. That wouldn’t do much better against Empoleon. Was I supposed to keep bombarding him with meaningless attacks until I won? At this rate I would be mulch and he wouldn’t have a scratch on him.
It was then that I had an idea. I blasted another bubblebeam at him and when he dodged it I ran back inside the maze. He must have followed me because I heard loud stomping behind me. Exactly what I wanted. I found one of the wide lines I drew and used bubblebeam on the walls, which the sticky slime held in place, and formed a bubble-wall between the line and the opening. I then hid inside the line and waited for him to take the bait. I heard him burst through the bubbles and when he found the dead end I jumped out and drill pecked him in the back. Before he could register what happened, I an back through the maze and hid behind another wall. I looked across from me, the other path and drew another bubble-wall there. I waited for him to take the bait again. I saw him stomp up to the bubble-wall.
“The same trick won’t work twice.” He said with a smirk.
“I know that!”
I jabbed him with a steel wing and sent him through the bubble-wall and kept slashing at him with steel wing until he met a wall. I then stuck him tight to the wall with a strong drill peck. Empoleon became enraged that he had been fooled twice and when he came up to attack me he found that he couldn’t move.
“What is this?”
“This is part of what I had to deal with in this maze.” I answered with victory in my voice. “I found this out when I tried breaking down the wall to make a new exit.”
“Don’t get cocky!” he shot bubblebeam at me, which I thought he might still have, and used a wave of steel wing to 1. break all of the bubbles before they reached me and 2. hit him square in the beak.
“I’m not cocky.” I said. “Unless you have some way to destroy the slime in the condition your in I win the fight.”
He looked at me with enraged eyes that looked like he wanted to kill me. Then his face softened up and smiled with admiration. “Nice work. I would never have thought of that. I concede defeat.” I began to glow like I did when I became Prinplup and grew taller than the Empoleon in front of me. My wings had a weird sharp to them with small extra points on the side. My beak grew a cover that stretched around my head that formed a crown made of three arrows. Then my entire body grew a cover that felt like it could protect me from anything. I stopped glowing and looked at my new body. It impressed me much more than when I became Prinplup. I was at least three times as strong, or at least if felt like it, and that nothing could hurt me, no matter what anyone tried. The Empoleon stuck to the wall looked at me with confidence and unstuck himself with ease from the wall.
“Wait,” I said shocked “you could have done that the entire time? Why didn’t you? You didn’t have to get up.”
“The way you used the maze to your advantage was very strategic. You also used the method of finding your way out of the maze to your advantage and the wall of slime was used to defeat me as well. If we were to continue like this, even with the little damage you could do to me, I wouldn’t stand a chance. You earned the victory fair and square.”
He gave me one final smile and made a vortex like what Dialga used to get me here between us and said “go through here and you can go back and save the dimensions. But beware as this could be your last adventure as a pokemon.”
“What?”
“I can’t say anymore. Just go and save us all!”
I stared back at him for what may as well have been forever and nodded. I jumped through the vortex and waited for my return to Temporal Tower.
CHAPTER 8: KEN’S CHALLENGE________
I was in a wide open, grassy plain. The sun was beaming down, showing the grass’ fresh, full, green color. The wind gently pushed the grass in waves, giving it the glassy, shiny look. It was a very relaxing sight. In the middle of the plain was a group of small pokemon being surrounded by vicious looking bug-pokemon. They were closing in fast. I had to help. I ran across the plain, paws leaving their mark on the grass. I jumped over the bug pokemon and landed next to a cleffa.
“Get down!” I told them and I released a vacuum-cut to knock the bug-pokemon back. I turned around and noticed that they were baby pokemon just hatched out of their eggs. There was five of them: a cleffa, an igglybuff, a togepi, a magby, and a smoochum.
“Are you all okay?” I asked.
“Were fine.” Igglybuff said.
“Are you here to save us, Mister?” asked the smoochum.
“Yes I am and don’t worry, I won’t let any of these pokemon get you or even touch you!” I promised them.
“YAY!!!!!!!!!!!” They were filled with happiness.
“HEY!” I turned around and a pinser looked at me with disgust. “You think you can just interrupt us?”
“You won’t get to touch these baby pokemon!” I cried back.
“Big talk for a DOG!” said a scyther behind me. That got to me. I released a flash and launched myself at the pinser and got him with bite. I then jumped from pokemon to pokemon, taking them out with bite while they were blind. Doing this I took out half of the attacking pokemon. All that were left was Scyther’s side of the circle. He looked at me with astonishment.
“Afraid now?” I asked with a fierce one.
“Not yet.” Scyther said and he let out a loud cry. There was a faint rustling behind me. “Any second now, swarms and swarms of us bug-pokemon will come and have a bite at the baby pokemon. Think you can protect them from us all?”
Like he said, another swarm of bug-pokemon came out of the woods, creeping towards us in stalker position. I let out another flash an started a biting frenzy again. I was able to take out Scyther’s group except for Scyther. He heard me coming and dodged out of the way ad knocked me into the other circle of pokemon. A butterfree used gust to knock me back next to the baby pokemon.
“Are you okay, Mister?” asked Cleffa.
I got back on my feet and reassured them that I was fine. “Just stay back and don’t move. I need your cooperation. Don’t be afraid, don’t move, you’ll be fine.”
They nodded their heads and watched me as I attacked the waves of pokemon appearing from over the plains. Wave after wave, I took them out. Using flash to blind them and then a series of bites. If they got too close I used vacuum-cut.
No matter how many times I did this, another wave of bug-pokemon took their place and each wave was stronger than the last. My flash-bite combo was becoming less and less effective. The waves went from weak bugs to huge monsters. Butterfrees, pinsers, vespiqueens, scythers, it wouldn’t stop. While taking down a beedrill, I heard a scream. I turned towards the baby pokemon and a heracross was praying on the little ones.
“NO!”
I leapt at the heracross without thinking and without even knowing it set a protective shield around me and the baby pokemon. It knocked the heracross back and the little ones looked at me with amazement.
“How did you do that?” asked Magby.
“I don’t know,” I said. “But I think I just learned protect.”
“Ya got guts kid.” Heracross said after a quick recovery. “Hows abouts me ‘n’ you have a dual?”
I looked at him with a “what?” face. This was sudden. “Sure, why not.” I said with confidence. My expression changed into a fierce, threatening one. The other pokemon were still closing in.
“Hey, hey, hey!” Heracross shouted at the incoming pokemon. “Just us, capiche?”
The stopped and instead formed a large ring with me, Heracross, and the baby pokemon in the middle.
I made the first move. I launched at him with a bite. It felt much stronger than any of the other bites I used. When I came close to him he grabbed my jaw, twirled me around, and mega horned me which sent me flying across the ring. I bounced off of the ground and landed safely on my paws. I readied flash and instead a single ray came our of the ring on my forehead and hit the unsuspecting Heracross. Heracross started losing his balance and his knees went weak.
“Wow!” he said with a weird tone “How come there are three of you?”
I also learned confuse ray! I thought to myself with astonishment. At this rate, I would have a whole set of unfamiliar moves. What about… I tried dark pulse and instead I sank into the ground, leaving nothing but a pile of shadow on the ground. I saw a dark place with a bright white ceiling. On the ceiling there were many pokemon’s foot prints. I found what looked liked Heracross’ and got him from under. I then used my stronger bite attack-which I figure is now crunch-and hurled him back to the ground. I landed on his arms and legs and pinned him to the ground. I learned protect, crunch, confuse ray, and shadow sneak. On top of that I got much stronger. I may as well have evolved.
Heracross looked at me with frustrated eyes. “You think this is over?! I don’t take losing kindly! Get him!”
I looked behind me and the pokemon started closing in again. I ran to the baby pokemons’ side. “Get on!” I laid down so they could climb on my back and when they did, just as the pokemon could have grabbed us, I released protect and ran through the attacking pokemon. I kept running, even when they were out of my sight. We reached the end of the plain, where there was a cliff with a cave. I laid down in the grass on my side, gasping. The baby pokemon looked down on me with worried eyes.
“Are you okay Mister?” asked Togepi.
“I’m fine.” I said with a more even breath. “Just tired.”
“Thank you for saving us.” Smoochum said gratefully.
“I couldn’t leave you guys there to die.”
“We have a gift for you.” Said Magby. They all grouped together at the opening of the cave and started to glow. They gently hovered above the ground and then merged. I stared in aw. What had I been protecting? In their place was a vortex, much like the one that Dialga made.
“Surprised?” said a voice from the vortex. It sounded like the baby pokemons’ voices together in one. We were the key to your escape the entire time. If anything had happened to us you would have been here for a long time and defend yourself against those evil pokemon.”
“Woah…” was all I could say.
“What are you waiting for? Step through and meet with your friends again.” I stood up and right before I stepped in, the baby pokemon all said in unison “THANK YOU MISTER!” I got teary eyed and replied with a “your welcome.” before I stepped through.
SIDE QUEST CH. 9: A TEST OF BRAINS_____
What was on the other side of the vortex surprised me. I was behind a simple podium. No buttons, no weird devices, just a wooden podium. Across from me was a chatot dressed up in a tux.
“Our next contestant is Chimchar!” said Chatot with his loud, sing-song voice. You know the rules, folks! Getting the right answer is the only way to stay safe! A wrong answer will have unknown effects on our contestant. If he can answer ten questions correctly, he can face his opponent and evolve!”
“Uuuuh, excuse me, but where am I?” I asked very confused.
Chatot looked at me astonishment. “You don’ know what this show is and your on it? Maybe you won’t make it after all…” That ticked me off a little bit.
“What’s the first question?” I asked trough gritted teeth.
“They are all based on the pokemon world and it’s many regions. They go from easy to hard. You only have one ‘save me’ so use it when it’s really necessary.”
“What’s the first question?” I repeated.
“Impatient, aren’t we? Anyway, question 1: Name all of Eevee’s evolutions.
“Flareon, Vaporeon, Umbreon (thank you, Ken), Glaceon, Jolteon, Espeon, and Leafeon.”
“CORRECT!” Chatot said while shouting out high-pitched dings. “Bonus! Name the conditions Eevee must fulfill to evolve into these pokemon.”
“A fire stone for Flareon, water stone for Vaporeon, thunder stone for Jolteon, needs to evolve next to moss rock for Leafeon, ice rock for Glaceon, full attachment to a trainer at night for Umbreon and then the same thing during the day with Espeon.”
“EXCELLENT! You get free pass!”
“What does it do?” I asked with triumph in my voice
“You’ll see. Question 2: Where is Dialga and Palkia located in the Sinnoh region?”
“Spear Pillar at the top of Mt. Coronet.” I answered.
“CORRECT! Question 3: What kind of energy does Lucario use to attack with?”
“Aura.”
“CORRECT AGAIN! THIS KID’S ON A ROLL!!!! Question 4: What was wrong with Dialga when time was whacked up?” I was stumped on that one. Saori never told us what was wrong with Dialga. We had all died and she had to fight Dialga alone.
“OUT OF TIME!” Chatot started letting out annoying buzzing noises. “What will happen to Chimchar?” Lightning rods popped out from the ground and just as they were about to zap me my free pass jumped out and covered one of the rods, stopping them from electrocuting me. “WOW! Saved by the pass!”
“That’s what happens when I answer a question wrong?!” I asked enraged.
“Not just that, you could get poisoned, electrocuted, burned, all kinds of things that could hurt you. Question 5: Where is Mewtwo located?”
“Cerulean Cave in Cerulean city in the Kanto region.”
“CORRECT! Question 6: What berry cures poison?”
“Pecha berry.”
“CORRECT! So far its 5 questions right! Question 7: How is it said that the three legendary pokemon Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf were said to have been created?”
“They were all born from the same egg.”
“CORRECT ONCE AGAIN! Question 8: What is the story of Ninetails?” Uh-oh, none of us knew Ninetails’ history.
“OUT OF TIME!” The lightning rods came out again and gave me a surprisingly powerful shock. Electricity coursed all throughout my body. By the end my muscles were twitching so much that when the rods retreated again I couldn’t stand up for a few minutes. When I did stand up a couple seconds later I fell back down and sat frozen before being able to move. “Ooh, it seems as if our contestant has not only been hurt by a Raichu’s thunderbolt, but was also given the paralyzed status. This could make it difficult for him to answer questions.” Aww man.
“Question 9: Who is said to have created the continents and the water of the planet?”
I knew this one. “Groudon created the continents and…” zzzzap! The paralysis got to me and made me pause in my answer. “…and Kyogre made the water.”
“THAT WAS A CLOSE CALL! CORRECT! 7 out of 10! We’re almost there. Question 10: Long ago when Groudon and Kyogre were fighting and causing massive destruction to the environment who was the only pokemon capable of stopping them and ending the catastrophes?”
My leg got a spasm from the paralyses, which sent me to the floor, and knocked the wind out of me. I tried to answer but I could hardly make a sound with the lack of air.
“OUT OF TIME AGAIN! ITS NOT LOOKING TOO GOOD FOR OUR CONTESTANT!” This time, a hitmonchan came out and gave me a sky uppercut to the face. I flew in the air and crashed on the floor, sending dust and other small debris into the air.
“This is really messed up.” I said to myself as I stood up.
“Question 11-a silhouette: name this pokemon.”
A screen came down and it showed a perfectly round pokemon. The only things that disrupted its perfect circle were the triangles placed just about where ears were supposed to be and some ovals at the bottom that looked like feet.
“It’s a jigglypuff!” I said immediately.
“CORRECT! Question 12: What happens to a charmander when its tail goes out?”
“It dies.” I shuddered a little bit when I answered. I also noticed that I wasn’t getting any spasms. I must somehow be cured of the paralysis.
“CORRECT! Question 13: Solarbeam is a move that absorbs the sun’s rays to produce a powerful beam. The draw back to this move is that it takes a long time to store that energy. The exception is when…”
“They are directly under an intense sun.”
“CORRECT! This is it, folks! Chimchar, our contestant, has gotten 9 questions right! All he needs to do is get one more question right out of these two question cards and he can fight his opponent with a full recovery. If he doesn’t, well, we’ll just have to wait and see. Question 14: How was Mewtwo created?”
This wasn’t in any book. I would bet anything that Saori, Ken or Kinichi might know. Maybe it has something to do with humans.
“OUT OF TIME!” I cringed. What was going to happen next? A door opened behind me and sent a powerful blizzard into the studio. It nearly burned out my tail by itself. My body temperature felt like it went down to freezing. The door closed and I felt exhausted. I tried to relax after the freezing cold, but for some reason my body wouldn’t move. None of my muscles were working. It was like they were frozen. “NEXT QUESTION! IF HE GETS THIS RIGHT THEN HE CAN MOVE ON WITH A FULL RECOVERY! THE LAST QUESTION! Question 15: What are Chimchar’s evolutionary stages?”
Of course I knew this one! I was Chimchar! I opened my mouth to answer but I couldn’t get my jaw to open! I stood there, yelling through a closed mouth, trying to say the answer. I couldn’t. No one could hear my muffled screams but me. I finally gave up. I thawed out just in time to hear Chatot scream at the top of his lungs “OUT OF TIME!” I tested my muscles by pounding on the podium. They worked fine now! What was going to happen now?
“Unfortunately Chimchar could not answer 10 questions correctly. So he will fight his opponent Monferno with half of the strength he has now and as an added bonus he will have the poisoned status.” Chatot looked at me with a little bit of a disappointed look.
“WHAT?!” how could I win like that? Something dropped out of the ceiling and landed on my head. I could feel my energy being drained. I started to lose my balance and I fell backwards onto my butt. The thing pulled itself off of my head and weird purple powder came down immediately afterwards. I started to feel sick. I was definatly in no condition to fight. Not only do I have to finish the battle quickly but I can’t receive any strong attack. I would be taken down in no time at all.
“Release Monferno!” Chatot yelled behind him. The entire wall behind him slid to the side and in there was a monferno not much bigger than me. The podium and anything else that would get in the way of the fight disappeared under the floor.
“You ready for a beating?” asked Monferno mockingly. I couldn’t answer him. The poison was working fast. Chatot flew between us and hovered in the air.
“READY? NOW FIGHT!” He quickly flew against the wall and found a bare pipe to sit on.
I took a few staggered steps toward Monferno before stumbling to the ground. I had to find a way around my poisoning. If I could get rid of that then I could fight properly. Where was our item bag when I needed it? I looked up from the floor and Monferno was in front of me, ready to deal the first and final blow. He inhaled and blew flamethrower at me. The fire engulfed me before I knew it. It definatly hurt, but it wasn’t enough to take me out. Suddenly, I felt much, much, much stronger. I became full of power. The poison was still there and I could still feel it whither away my energy, but I could withstand it.
“You forgot my special ability…” I said getting up. I looked him in the eye, full of confidence with a face of seriousness. “…blaze. When I get weak my fire attacks get stronger. Not only am I stronger but I can now withstand the poison’s effect. “
Monferno wasn’t fazed at all. “True, but you are still one hit away from fainting and the poison is dealing you damage when I’m not so I still have the advantage.”
“I’m stronger than I look.” I jumped in the air and used flame wheel straight down on Monferno. He quickly jumped out of the way but before I hit the floor I started turning in his direction. I followed him through the studio and as he turned a corner I stopped flame wheel, ricocheted myself off of the wall, and when I came close to Monferno, unleashed a fury of fury swipes. A final swipe sent him to the wall and I drove him in further with another flame wheel. I jumped back and used flamethrower. When my attack ended, Monferno was a few inches in the wall. He opened his eyes and flashed away from my sight. I knew where he was, though. They always try this when they can go this fast. I ducked and dodged Monferno’s punch and did a backwards round-house kick, sending him across the studio. I used fire spin to trap him in one place. It took the form of a tower, going from floor to ceiling. No way out. I used flame wheel again and hurled myself through the fire spin, smacked into Monferno, and disappeared through the fire again. I came through again at a different spot and rammed him again. I did this over and over, going at full throttle. The poison was almost done with me. In a few minutes I might not be able to move and crash on the floor. I had to finish this. I rammed into Monferno again and instead of doing a hit-and-run again, used Monferno as a ramp into the air. I got out of flame wheel and aimed right down on Monferno. I readied flamethrower and, at full power, sent it at him. What came out, however, was not flamethrower. It came at as some weird human-like shape. It was so huge that it covered the entire arena of fire. Monferno had no where to dodge this attack and it was definatly much stronger than flamethrower. When the new attack, fire blast, hit Monferno, a huge burst of flames came out of the human-like shape and sent sparks and embers throughout the studio, setting it ablaze. I landed next to Monferno, who was lying on the ground.
As I stared at him, I noticed that my arm was glowing. This must be what evolution was. It felt weird. It was a numbing feeling but it was hardly noticeable. I grew taller, my arms grew a little more bulky, and I grew a real tail like Kinichi’s. I was now a Monferno.
The studio started shaking. The building was going to collapse with its now weak support beams burning up in the fire. The Monferno in front of me disappeared and in its place was a vortex a lot like what Dialga made to bring me to this deadly game show. The ceiling crumbled above me and just before it fell on top of me I jumped through the vortex. I was surrounded by colors again and as I looked up I saw red flames desperately try to touch me to no prevail.
CHAPTER 10: MY GREATEST FEAR_____
My two best friends, Ken and Saori, lay side by side with eyes closed, cuts and bruises all over them, and no sign of breathing, right in front of me. A little farther ahead were two familiar looking pokemon. One had a large bulb on its back that was growing leafs. The other had a hard shell and fluffy tails and ears. In the first one’s vines was Chimchar. The other looked ready to take his life with one attack. I stared in horror at the vision that greeted me after I got out of the vortex. How did this happen? How could all three of them lose? My original exploration team were not that strong. I was their strongest member and now I’m probably my current team’s weakest member since I don’t seem to get to fight much. If Ivysaur and Warturtle can beat my team, how can I win? I shook my head. That is not true. I can and WILL win.
“Hey Ivysaur,” said Warturtle to his partner. “it’s the traitor.”
“Don’t come any closer!” said Ivysaur threatened. “take another step and your friend here is done for!”
“Kinichi! Don’t worry about me! Just take these guys out!”
“Shut up!” said Ivysaur tightening his grip on Chimchar. “You’re in no position to talk!”
I sent flamethrower at Ivysaur and when it hit him it hit Chimchar too. The attack weakened Ivysaur and Chimchar’s blaze ability kicked in. This gave him the strength to break free of Ivysaur’s grip. Chimchar started to run to my side and about halfway there Warturtle used water gun and hit Chimchar before I could save him. The attack burnt out his tail and sent him to the plain dirt floor. I didn’t notice where I was until now. It was nothing but a dirt plain during the night time. Chimchar fell beside me. I didn’t turn to him. I couldn’t look. I continued to stare at Ivysaur and Warturtle. My eyes got watery. My arms shook. I clenched my teeth and balled my hands into fists. Fury engulfed me and filled me with rage.
“We warned you.”
That did it. I launched myself full power at them, claws ready to dig into either of them. When I get close enough to slash Ivysaur he grabs me with his vines. He held me tight in mid-air, squeezing the air out of me. I had just fallen in a deadly and easy-to-predict trap. I gasped for air and as my attempts became futile I stopped trying and waited for the inevitable. That allowed me to think of my escape route. I swung my tail next to Ivysaur’s bulb and set it ablaze. Ivysaur dropped me and as I touched the ground Warturtle was ready with a water gun and sent it at me. I had already figured he would try something so I dodged out of the way of the attack and had already saw coming. Ivysaur started rolling on the ground, desperately trying to put out the fire. I used a flamethrower, breath and strength returning, and aimed at a finishing blow for Ivysaur. Just before the fire made contact, Warturtle defended Ivysaur and canceled out my flamethrower with water gun and then used the same water gun to put out Ivysaur.
Although I didn’t finish him off, I did a tremendous amount of damage to him. Or at least, I should have. For some reason Ivysaur didn’t seem as fazed as I thought. In fact, it looks like he got a light punch on the arm rather than being set on fire. He got up and readied to attack in about a second. This really didn’t look good. They weren’t the same weak ex-teammates that I knew. These ones were much stronger and as I remembered that this was only part of the training that Dialga made for us realized that my friends lying on the floor were not really my friends, just replicas. MY friends are not really dead! This set my anger aside and allowed me to think much more clearly.
I figured that with these much stronger versions of my enemies my usual style of attack now, think later won’t work in this situation. I have to think more logically and try to plan my attacks more thoroughly and carefully to win this battle. If only Saori were here, she usually figures the best strategies. I became too deep in my thoughts and wasn’t paying attention as Warturtle and Ivysaur’s expressions became strained. I only noticed because while like this Ivysaur’s slightly burnt bulb began to absorb weird light and began to glow while far behind Warturtle a giant wave of water started to appear. I didn’t exactly what these two were doing but the sight of their concentration made me worry. These were going to be strong attacks and I had to be ready. I began to analyze the situation again. I didn’t come up with anything other than the obvious. Unless I can pull something out right now, I’m toast.
Suddenly, I began to glow. Again, I didn’t know what was going on, but I could tell I was changing somehow. Chimchar would have been able to tell immediately what was happening, even though I can probably guess what was happening. I was evolving. My arms became longer and more muscular, me legs more bulky. They felt like They could hold at least a few tons of weight before even thinking about giving up. My head became more triangle-shaped with two dull horns instead of one jutting out of the back of my head. My mid-section grew at least twice as big and last giant wings sprouted out of my back. I don’t know what I had just become, but I liked it. This was exactly what I needed to win this battle.
The bulb on Ivysaur’s back glowed brighter than the sun now and it had stopped absorbing light and the tidal wave from behind grew taller and became much closer. I stopped glowing and revealed my new form to my foes. They didn’t stop concentrating. The tidal wave was just behind them and right before it met with them I flapped my wings and took to the air. I was a little hard to get used to but I could at least attack from here. I would need to train a little more before using it often. The water just barely missed and just as I thought I was done with the worst Ivysaur released a huge beam of light from his bulb. I decided that this was a good time to use a new move of mine. I shot up vertically and when I was at a comfortable height I began to spin in the air, nose up to the sky. I folded my wings close to my body and spun even faster. I started to create wind and was able to make it swirl around me. I surrounded my self in strong winds and made a powerful twister. I absorbed Ivysaur’s attack and some of the water to make the attack stronger. I spun faster and faster and moved in closer to Ivysaur and Warturtle, enough to suck them into my twister. They got hit by a flurry of their own attacks and when I finally decided that they were finished let the twister go.
Everything that entered the twister was released in all directions. The beam of light flashed brighter than I could bear and when I could see Ivysaur and Warturtle were limp bodies on the ground and the water that was absorbed separated from each other and became rain harmless to my flame-tail. I stared at the dead bodies of my fake opponents and then at the bodies of my fake friends, who for some reason were not affected by the twister. I almost hurt but I remembered that they were fake, which didn’t help. Even though it wasn’t real I had to watch my friends die in front of me by clones of the pokemon that swore they would kill them some day. After a few moments a familiar vortex appeared beside me. I figured that was my queue to leave. I stepped through the portal and prepared to face my real friends and also ask Chimchar exactly what pokemon I had just now become.
