CHAPTER 10: THE BET__________________Early that morning, Chimchar woke me and Ken up looking frightened. “We got visitors guys!” We walked out of the tent and saw a group of geodude and gravler marching towards our tent.
“Yu t’ink yu guys can jus’ camp un our property there?!” asked one of the gravlers angrily.
“I swear we didn’t know.” Said Chimchar.
“Yur goin’ down, punk!” They started charging down the hill using rollout at high speed. I immediately had an idea. I used bubble full power at the ground in front of us to create a ditch large enough to trip me up.
“Don’t back down now.” I told Ken and Chimchar. “Just watch.” The gravler and geodude hit the ditch hard and flew into the air. I readied steel wing and when they came close enough, hit them out of the way as if my fins were tennis rackets and they were tennis balls. Without breaking a sweat, they were all knocked out. “Lets go now.”
“Saori, where did you learn to think like that?” asked Ken
“It’s a secret!”
“Seriously.”
“Well, since we came here, I’ve been the weakest out of the three of us and that has been made clear too many times. So, when I fought my battle back at the cave, I decided that instead of calling for help, I would stand up and fight and since then I’ve been able to think clearly and put my plans to action. I think I’ve also gotten a lot stronger just by leading.”
“I’ve been noticing that, too.” Said Chimchar. “You seem to be the one with the clear head now and the one who has all of the ideas that work. That’s not just me saying it. You’ve proven that twice in less than a day.
“Anyway, we should move on.” I said “Who knows how long it’ll take to climb this mountain.” We climbed up a little bit and saw Kinichi and her team. They turned around to face us.
“I thought I heard some noise earlier.” Said Ivysaur. “It turns out it was just you three.I’m surprised that you made it up here. What with her holding you back.”
“Saori has gotten a lot stronger since last time!” said Ken.
I couldn’t stop glaring at Kinichi. She kept trying to look tough, but failed only in my eyes. “We’ll leave you with your old friends so you can catch up on things.” Warturtle said sarcastically. A little bit after they left, I told Ken and Chimchar that I would catch up with them as well.
“Are you sure?” asked Ken.
“Yeah, I’m sure.” They started to climb up the mountain. “I’m going to ask again…”
“It’s none of your business!”
“Why won’t you join up with us. You know that they are only crooks. We are your friends. Please Kinichi, tell me.”
“Saori, if you don’t stop asking that, I will have to shut you up.”
“Fine. I’ll make a bet.”
“I don’t accept.”
“We’ll battle. If I win, you tell me everything. If you win, I’ll never ask again and leave you alone.”
Kinichi was startled by my proposal. She doesn’t know how much I’ve changed. “Fine. If this is the only way to protect you, then I will.”
“What?”
“Don’t let you guard down!”
