CHAPTER 8: CUBONE’S DOJO_______PART 2
Ken and I went our separate ways. I hadn’t realized how dark the cave was without Ken’s light. I was a little frightened. I soon saw a light up ahead. Could this be the end of the cave and I could see Ken again? I raced to it and it came closer and closer. I reached the light and I saw a forest wide open in front of me. I took another look and what I saw I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was another piplup! It looked at me as if it were ready to fight. I wasn’t sure if I should scream for help or handle this alone. I shook my head. I can’t keep counting on my friends to save me. I’ve either been in the way or Ken had to save me. That wasn’t happening this time. I was going to fight. I charged at it with peck ready. The piplup jumped and copied my move with a direct hit. I fell to the ground for a little bit, rubbing my now painful head. I tried shooting bubble and the piplup dodged that too! Piplup shot bubble as well except this was a little faster than mine. I had no time to dodge so I put my fins up in a defensive way and they started to glow like that time when we met Ninetails. My fins burst the bubbles that made contact with my fins before they could score a hit on me. I remembered what this move was now. I had learned steel wing! I charged in and used bubble again. When the piplup dodged I saw him shift his weight forward and readied steel wing. He charged up with peck and we collided. I put more energy into my steel wing and pushed forward. I broke through the peck and scored a direct hit. Piplup crashed into a tree and was KO’d. I couldn’t believe what just happened. I had won a battle for the first time! I already started to feel stronger. I quickle cut through the trees next to the cave figuring that if we went the same direction, I would end up seeing him if I went through the trees. Sure enough, there was Ken. Or at least, two of them. Ken wasn’t the only one fighting a battle and by the looks of it, he was losing! Ken saw me and warned me to stay back. “This guy would wipe the floor with you at your level.”
“That’s just it, though.” I said. “I already feel stronger than before. You need to rest. I’ll take care of him.”
“IDIOT! Stay back. I can handle this!”
“Ken, for once, I’m the one saving you.” I charged in with peck like I started the other battle. Just like last time, Umbreon dodged and countered with a bite. I used his weight to swing him ‘round and into a nearby tree. I followed it up with a bubble and did tons of damage. Umbreon didn’t stand a chance. I looked at Ken and he looked at me with “OMG” eyes.
“Where did you learn to fight like that?” He asked still in shock.
“I told you, I had my own fight so I got stronger.”
“That wasn’t strength.” He said. “That was smart. Reckless, but smart. I think when you leveled up, you got smarter instead of stronger.” By the looks of it, he was about ready to drop it. “Thank you for helping me. I’m not sure if I could have lasted another minute in that fight.” He started to walk over to me and he gave me a hug. I started to feel strange. This was starting to feel weird. I wouldn’t let it stop, though. We stood there, hugging, for who knows how long. When we stopped, we couldn’t move or keep our eyes off of each other. I didn’t want this moment to end. “You look really tired. Here, climb on my back.” He bent down so he was sitting on the ground.
“You’re the one that got the beating. We should rest and take shelter in the forest.” We saw a pile of moss and grass fashioned into a tent close by. We walked over to it to take shelter and sleep for the night. When we looked in, we saw Chimchar inside snacking on some berries.
“Hey guys! Come in there’s plenty of room and food.” After we ate, Ken and I huddled together really close and fell asleep. Chimchar looked at us and with a smile. “They’d be great together. I wouldn’t be surprised if they went on a date soon.”
