SIDE QUEST CHAPTER 4: TRUE OR FALSE?I had a horrible nightmare. Everywhere I turned something that looked familiar disappeared right before my eyes. Our home, the dirt roads of town, and the trails leading to the outskirts of town all vanished and were replaced by the purple swirls of the other dimension. I ran along the only path of the remaining dimension and eventually found all of my friends in a group. They appeared to be waiting for me. Why wouldn’t they just come look for me in this kind of situation? When I came close enough to touch them, their faces went white and their mask fell off, leaving nothing but empty black where the mask was. I turned to run away, realizing they weren’t my friends after all and I was on the only patch of our dimension left. I was alone again. All alone. Alone…
I woke up with a jolt, gasping and breathing hard. Sweat all over my face was threatening to fall off of my chin at any movement. Ken was next to me, awake.
“Did you have a bad dream?” Ken asked. That monotone still wasn’t gone. I was beginning to wonder if maybe there was something wrong with him. I put that thought aside so that he wouldn’t worry too much and never leave me alone about it.
“Yeah, but I know it’s just a dream.” I replied reassuringly.
“It helps to talk about it.”
“I dreamed that I was all alone again. Like when I first got here. Everything and everyone disappeared right in front of me. And when I finally found all of you, it turned out you were fake. That’s when I woke up.”
I could have sworn I saw a small smile slide across his face. “It was just a dream.” He said. “It is not true. Now that we are here, you do not need to worry.”
I started to feel a little hazy. Not the kind of feeling I would get when I see a vision, but a weird, split-second black-out. I regained my senses and caught myself before I fell over. I decided that we should start to figure out how to stop Grovyle and Dusknoir and plan our next form of action. We, me, Ken, Chimchar and Kinichi, huddled together in a circle and I opened the conversation with whether or not they had discovered anything while searching for me. With another monotone response, they said that they had discovered nothing besides the fact that we are in fact in another dimension and that the two dimensions are mixing together and everything is jumbled up. Up to the point that we could climb an ice-topped mountain and at the peak find a beautiful, grassy meadow or a huge wasteland.
I was about to start of the next subject but my train of thought completely shut down. I had no will or power to think properly. Literally nothing was going on in my brain. All I could do was sit and stare into nothing. Chimchar across from me nodded to the other two and they all turned into black matter. The matter engulfed me and I wasn’t in that weird dimension anymore. I was back at town. All the pokemon were tending to their own business. My friends were next to me. They seemed to be waiting for me to move so they could follow. The sun looked like it was about to set anytime so we went to our home to sleep through the night.
I woke up the next morning with the full intention to take on multiple missions at the same time. When I climbed out of the cave, however, the strangest sensation of laziness overcame me. My thoughts immediately switched to laying in bed all day. To taking a day off with my friends. I climbed back down and told everyone that we should take the day off today and they nodded their heads in full agreement.
A little later that day, I tried to figure out exactly what happened. My friends all turned into blobs and then when they surrounded me, we are all back in the middle of town. I started to get very suspicious about it. There was something definatly wrong here. I then remembered my dream. How my friends’ faces fell off and they were all fake. I remembered Ken’s tiny smile. Something was really, really wrong here. To test my suspicion, I decided to quiz my friends on stuff that only they could know. My first target was Ken.
I asked him if I could ask him some questions and with a hesitant nod we began.
“What is our relationship together?”
It was very strange that he wouldn’t answer. He wouldn’t even open his mouth. He sit there, turning in his seat. Now that I think about it, they haven’t spoken a word since we came back. Maybe…
I shot a bubblebeam at “Ken” and climbed out of the cave. I started to run to the outskirts of town. I had an idea on where I should go. I had to go to the pond in Infinity Forest. That is the only sane place I can go to. Some important questions will be answered there. As I arrived in Infinity Forest, a strong wind came and nearly blew me off of my feet. The wind softened a little bit, and then came back even stronger again. Something was keeping me from being here. This only made my suspicion grow. It was tough walking through the woods with the wind getting stronger with every step I take. I wasn’t even close to the pond when the wind got so strong that I couldn’t move. I dug my feet into the ground and tried to think of how to keep myself from getting blown away. I saw that there was a large tree next to me and took cover behind it. It proved to be safe from the harsh winds and showed no sign of damage from the wind. I sat there and all I did was think about how to progress through these woods. I looked at the ground below me and my plan came. I readied my beak and jumped up to dig into the ground using drill peck. I was able to dig a good distance underground, enough so that the strong wind outside wouldn’t affect my progress. From here, I could move forward and not have to face the wind. I used steel wing like a strong pickaxe to make a tunnel. Every now and then I would have to poke my head up from the ground to check if I was going in the right direction. The wind kept getting noticeably stronger when I went towards the center of the forest, my destination. This made a good compass for me. It’s kind of funny how my obstacle became my aid. It didn’t take me very long to reach my destination. The last time I pocked my head up the wind was so strong that my head felt like it would completely rip off of the rest of my body. I could see the pond through squinted eyes, the only vision the wind would allow me anymore. No more than thirty second away from where I was standing. I decided to brave the wind from here on since I was so close. I jumped out of the hole and the wind carried me off of my feat and into the branches of a tree. The trees were bending uncontrollably now, bending almost all the way backwards. I was surprised that none of them had snapped. I tried to climb down but the wind knocked me right off of the tree and I was once again the only flying penguin in history. No trees decided to get in my way this time. I kept flying backwards, towards the edge of the forest. The wind started weakening again the farther I went but they were still strong enough to carry me. I started performing involuntary summersaults in the air which made me sick very quickly. Mid-flight, as the wind died enough to let me down, a tree branch thwacked me in the back of my head and I fell unconscious immediately. The last thing I remembered was me landing on the ground with a loud THUD!
