Flying ferrets, magical girls, and dark mysterious bishounen, oh my! A playful "what if" twist on Peach Fuzz.Amanda is the business woman in the upper left corner. Kim is the world famous fashion designer on the phone in the background. Amanda's daughter is the magical ferret girl, and the goth girl is Kim's daughter. Tim might just be that sinister looking guy with the red teardrop.
Unfortunately, I forget the new girl's names... I'll have to look through my notes. It was just a fun idea for a Peach Fuzz spinoff series.

Oh lind, can I ask you a quick question... When publishers look to hire artists for the mangas, what degree do they usually look for? Illustration?

Well...college degrees actually have very little to do with comics jobs. In the art world, it's not what you have on your resume, it's what's in your portfolio that matters. Publishers are looking at the quality of your work, your ability to do sequential art, consistent characters, motion and expressions, backgrounds and perspective. Not to say that college is useless. Not at all. Many artists find college useful for learning these skills. I'm self-taught though, so I'm not really a good person to ask about which degree is best.

Ooohhh So its not intergral that I have a degree if I want to apply to a publisher, like Sevenseas, or Tokypop (including Rising Stars) ?

Well, Then I wonder if I should still go through with my art college plans. I mean, I probably will anyway, but do YOU think it'll really help? I mean, the path for me to be a comic illustrator is already dead and paved, but I just dont know now if going through 4 years and paying a $45k tuition will be worth it in the end if I dont need it... D;

Honestly? You probably should. Even though the degree doesn't matter to comic companies, the skills do, and going to an art school will do a great deal of good in refining your abilities (provided you put the work into it). For me, art school wasn't an option. It was a normal four year school, or nothing. I was already getting freelance assignments at the time, so I decided to wing it. I'm really self-motivated and driven, so I've been able to teach myself and get by...but if I had to make the choice again, and art school had been an option, I would have done it.

Ok, that answers my question then. I do as well have lots of motivation to do it, and willpower, BUT I as well thinking that refining my skills and molding my style more unique, will be better for that career. My plans are to go to State College of Florida and get my AA with 2 years, and then transfer to Ringling, [because well, its down the road and I've been going there for many summers now and I have connections with staff.] and graduate with a 4-yrs. major in Illustration.
Sound like an OK plan? XD

Dear god, your lineart and coloring is to die for. I love all of the contrast going on with the shading, and the background is just super.I love how the background doesn't become too much of a focus .

Yeah I know, I wanted to make her look peaceful, like she's enjoying a private moment, but it just didn't work out. That's why I'm not entirely satisfied with it... but like I said, I'm tired of tweaking-- this has been sitting around on my desktop for months now. @_@
