So, when I was watching that scene in Onward where Ian is trying to apologize to Barley for indirectly calling him a screw-up and Barley is just driving and ignoring him, all I could think of was that scene from A Goofy Movie where Max is trying to talk to his dad after he chooses to go left to the Powerline concert instead of right to the fishing trip, failing the little test his father had made to see if he had actually changed the map like Pete was trying to tell him he did.
