I went with a "fantasy portrait" approach when it comes to this piece. It's an idealized self-portrait of sorts, one that I would call a "soul-snapshot". I've made many of those over the years, but my current skill level is way superior compared to how it used to be, and now I can express myself and my ideas through painting more accurately. I could dig up at least a dozen pictures I made throughout the years that basically cover the same themes as this one - my soul didn't change, but my way of expression did. It was a lot of fun to paint this, without the pressure of a deadline it took me almost 4 months of on-again-off-again work to finish it. But I like the result, as this is clearly my best traditional work to date.
Made in colored pencil, with a bit of india ink markers for definition and white gel pen for the highlights.
