Description
I made my Elizabeth for Jay. He decided he wanted to make a Booker, so I was inclined to make a complimentary costume. It was a labor of loveAnyway onto the creation of my outfit. The bolero and skirt were made with a synthetic velvet, which was ruined in this shoot because of how hot the warehouse was, (my skirt has a permanent butt print that I can not get out). I utilized 2 different patterns to create the proper look (Simplicity 1819, and Butterick 5232). I made a couple mock ups before I was happy because even fake velvet is expensive. The skirt was fairly simple but I couldn't figure out how to cinch it to my waist. I did some research and found that zippers had been invented by the time period of the game (huzzah) so I used an invisible zipper. On the left side there is a slight ruche which I also put in the petticoat. The petticoat was made with the simplicity pattern 5006 and shortened by several inches. The bloomers were made from Simplicity 9769. The wig was oddly enough named Elizabeth. I had worn it for a Trucy Wright costume a few years ago. It was almost perfect I just had to cut it by a few inches. The necklace was a combination of trims that I had sewed together and added a cameo bought from etsy www.etsy.com/listing/128142086…
The boots were bought on amazon, wasn't totally happy with how loose the ankles were and I guess others weren't either because I can no longer find them to credit a link. The corset was the biggest challenge. I put 2 patterns together and had to do a lot of trial and error. The 2 patterns were Simplicity 5006 and 9769. I ordered most of my supplies on www.corsetmaking.com/ I based my supply list on one corset but found once I received everything that my busk was too long. Jay had to cut and file down the pieces to make them work. I also had a difficult time with the fit. The front was too open and didn't support me very well. I had to take it apart more than once which was a pain in the butt after doing all the seam work, piping, casings, and trim several times over. I"m happy with the front and back look of the corset but I really don't like how it looks from the side. Perhaps I might be motivated to redo it at one point but for now it is what it is.
