Don't hate you, no, but I do think that that wasn't the best course of action.
Pro tip: there are five big things you should steer clear of as far as convos go in life. Religion, politics, negative views of your military, sexual orientation, and body modification. As you've seen, it can take a very nasty turn, opening up a can of worms, so to speak.
For example, I saw someone post a pic of a soldier with the subtitle "Here's a murderer. He's like all murderers, except he has a government job." That's a provocative statement just begging to be hacked apart with a machete. Your statement, while not as provocative, still warrants machete-hacking. Tact, my dear. Tact will help avoid future issues.
