Description
This tutorial makes use of the location words that I uploaded previously (link in description).

As you may recall, I have previously taught how to ask where things are:

がっこうはどこですか。
Gakkou wa doko desu ka.
Where is the school?

So far, all I've taught for a reply is "here", "there", and "over there".

Now we're going to learn to be a bit more descriptive.

The way the sentence is organized is as follows:

X は Y の (location word) です。
Where "X" is (location word) "Y".

This words for all of the location words I have given except for "between", but I'll get to that one specifically later on in this tutorial.

Let's see some examples:

おてらいはきっさてんのなかです。
Oterai wa kissaten no naka desu.
The restroom is inside the cafe.

ゆうびんきょくはとしょかんのまえです。
Yuubinkyoku wa toshokan no mae desu.
The post office is in front of the library.

The above sentence could also be understood as, "The post office is across from/opposite of the library."

えんぴつはつくえのしたです。
Enpitsu wa tsukue no shita desu.
The pencil is under the desk.

さいふはかばんのそばです。
Saifu wa kaban no soba desu.
The wallet is near the bag.

The above sentence could also be stated as:
さいふはかばんのちかくです。
Saifu wa kaban no chikaku desu.
"Chikaku" is a more common way of saying "near".

To say something is in between something else (using "aida"), the format is as follows:

X は Y と Z のあいだです。
Where "X" is between "Y" and "Z".

いえはこうえんとデパートのあいだです。
Ie wa kouen to depaato no aida desu.
(My) house is between the park and department store.

You can also use these terms to state at event that occurs at a location. Be sure to use the particle "de"!

わたしはレストランのまえでともだちをまちました。
Watashi wa resutoran no mae de tomodachi wo machimashita.
I waited for (my) friend in front of the restaurant.
