JJ is... dense, to put it politely.
Alright, he's an obnoxious, clumsy meathead that calls everyone "bro," but he's just too nice to hate. What he lacks in brains, he makes up for in muscles, a childlike wonder with the world, and a near obsession with making sure everyone around him is happy at all times. His smile and laugh are infectous, and he always knows how to cheer people up– but maybe that's just because he eventually wears them down. While he's not the brightest bulb in the box, he always puts 110% into everything he does, and it's actually pretty admirable. He instinctually likes everyone, but he's especially clingy with his friends, and he will follow them around like a pathetic, overgrown puppy if ignored for too long. He'll fall into a funk if he's left alone or can't seem to cheer someone up, and he's really easy to trick into just about anything, but why would you do anything to hurt such a sweet boy? When he's not at the gym, he's working hard or (trying) to help his mother around the house, although she usually sends him off after a short while since he always seems to end up breaking something.
History:
The Péng household has always been absolute chaos. Not necessarily the bad kind, but more of the 'I accidentally threw one of my brothers through the wall while we were playing again' kind. That's just what happens when one has three boys who are all fighting types. Despite the never-ending home repairs, the Péng home was always full of endless love and encouragement, and JJ wouldn't have had it any other way.
From an early age, the three boys' single mother helped them all channel their natural aggression into aggressive happiness, and while none of them were ever the sharpest tools in the shed, they made up for it with their infectous enthusiasm for making friends and having fun. JJ ended up the same way, trailing after his older brothers and spending countless hours in the gym to burn off any excess energy– of which there was a lot. He was never very good at school, but he managed to skate by because he, like his brothers, was a star athlete in just about any sport he tried. While everyone knew he was a bit of a dullard, he was accepted as the token happy-go-lucky jock because he was just so dang nice. Even the bullies liked him, mostly because any attempts at bullying him flew right over his head. The only complaint anyone had was that asking him out was impossible thanks to his thick head. That and the constantly breaking things...
He failed miserably at college since his sports scholarships could only get him so far, but he wasn't deterred in the slightest. He instead poured his energy into his work, and work he did! Except... keeping a job was another story. See, he always passed his interviews with flying colors since no one could say no to his tenacity, but he always ended up making a mess of things. Broken equipment here, the occasional accidental property damage there– it was always so frustrating because his older brothers were doing great at their jobs! So why couldn't he? As the years passed and his resume got longer and longer, he just couldn't figure out why he was different. He was stuck at home without a career or a steady paycheck to call his own, and by the time he hit his early twenties, it actually started to weigh on him. Luckily for him, his mother announced that she wanted to move back to Raccolto to be near her family. Since the boys were grown and off on their own, there was no point for her to stay, right? JJ saw it as the perfect chance to start over and find himself a career, so he helped her move and is happy to now call the island home.

She enjoys being spoiled rotten and sleeping wherever she wants, which sometimes includes JJ's face.

- Has very animated ears, they swivel all over the place to broadcast his emotions. He also has the tiniest nubbin of a tail. Yes, it wags when he's happy. Which is pretty much all the time.
- He will loudly announce the presence of, and then talk to, any domesticated Pokemon. And sometimes undomesticated. He will pet all of them.
- Calls everyone "bro," even his own mother.
- He is absolutely riddled with scars, all of them either sports or clumsiness-related.
- Despite his general Tauros-in-a-china-shop ways, he's incredibly gentle with children and Pokemon.
- He's lost track of how many bones he's broken.
- Unironically loves his mullet and considers it the manliest of all hairstyles.
- One of his coaches in college was vegan and taught him the wonders of the Vegan Athlete lifestyle, and he's very strictly followed that code ever since. He will cry if he accidentally eats meat or animal byproducts.
- He and his brothers aren't allowed to meet each other indoors when one of them visits, or accidental property damage will occur. It might end with a trip to the hospital anyway, they tend to get extra rowdy when they haven't seen each other in a while.

- When asking him to do something, one must be explicitly clear on instructions, and even then, he will probably mess it up. The only thing in the world that gives him anxiety is the phrase "just figure it out."
- He has a tattoo on the outer side of his right shin, the same as his older brothers. Yes, he bawled like a baby the entire time.
