Description Another Multi-day Oekaki..
Seems to get harder and harder to paint, as they go along.

Can anyone identify the wierd dragon thingy in the back? (Hint: Ramayana?)
PS, oh and please do ignore those cartoonish clouds.
I'm ashamed to look at them. Tee hee.

Very dynamic pose and composition, although some of the background doesn't make sense to me - like the waterfall. I like pictures that show the fun the artist had while painting them. An usual style for oekaki, almost looks like a gamesprite, really cute.

ΰΉ‡Heh, I didn't intend for it to be so vague. But the smallness of the area I had to work with, got to me. The Dragon thingy is really a Naga, and like all Ramayana mythical creatures, sports a ridiculous mass.(Do you know that one of them, the Erawan elephant is so massive, it actually dwarfs every creature in the western mythology books?)

So the Naga wakes up because of the Hero. It's size is depicted by the fact that it sports the whole mountain on its back, the whole length of it.
In fact, our hero is on one of the terrains on the Naga's back! Luckily, His equipment enables him to fly a short distance. So he isn't in too bad a shape at the moment.

The Game sprite element is because I'm practicing to draw a splashscreen for a mobile game. I may or may not have to do it(right now, I'm just animating some sprites .... at 22x22. =_=") But if I have to, then I'll be darn ready for it. ^_^

PS, the game that I mention is really a stupid dodge game. The programmer is really lazy, and throws all the responsiblity on my shoulder. So I'm now slumped with a large amount of work. Well, at least I should be getting a nice sum out of it. *sighs*

That's a beautiful painting. I love the dragon... it's so storybookish. I could see it as a scene from a really nice animated movie

The dragon was quite a pain to color, but it was worth it.
Yep, I can picture it too. May be one day...

I ran out of steam by the time I got to the clouds.
They were supposed to be finish at the same time as the Naga.

But instead, I painted them in the last minute. So my fatigue some how got in to the picture through them.
And that's the reason for it's cartoonishness. =_-'

Been awhile since I've read anything Ramanaya related. Didn't quite realize that there was a giant dragon thing.

The Naga thing is actually a kind of dragon tribe that lives under the sea.
Has this hate relationship with the bird race - Garuda. They tends to eat Naga for food. (Yikes)

Even though the Naga are really really massive snakes with multi heads(all mount on one longbody!) The Garuda doesn't seem to have a problem picking on them.

I don't remember much about the mythological part. But it seems that they had a peace pact in Bhudism. Where they won't fight each other again in temple grounds? The most story I remembered about the Naga, also comes for the Bhuddist side. When One of them tries to become a monk, but got caught. And one of the 227 rules of a bhuddist monk is that, you have to be a human to become one. So in the end, the Buddha named the a pre-monk , Naga. And the Naga pledge his loyalty to guard the temples to all his days.

That may or may not be accurate, but it's how I remembered it. -3-

The Sutep temple in Chiangmai, had a long steps of stairs that had these snakes decorated on it. This Giant snake thing is very hot in Thai temples.

That and White elephants....

I thought it was painter ot photoshop too! This is REALLY WELL DONE! I love the backround(the clouds look fine, stop complaining, Probably the best clouds i've seen in a oekaki in a long time) The dragon thing did just bite that mountain right, or it some kind of horn of its back, because it make me think the dragon is so huge it back has mountains and rivers on its back. Good idea eiher way, it still expresses the massiveness of it. the character you made is also very well done I like his outfit a lot. Totally, wha I think makes the picture look like its painter, or photoshop is the excellent shading and lighting. I couldn't ever make it look so good even if my life depended on it. this is a definate

leeyiankun In reply to Yanomeko [2005-12-06 14:04:17 +0000 UTC]

Well, The size of the Oekaki is only 300x300.
When I sketch it, it didn't show the size of the monster very well.

[link]

But, the idea is that the monster is so massive. It actually carries quite a large amount of land on it's back. Which fallens off when it awakens.

The Painter/Photoshop likeness is due to Oekaki BBS's near-Photoshop interface. It has layers, smudging(which helps in creating the clouds.), even an color picker. And as I've said in my earlier Oe pieces, The Repaint fuctions helps ALOT.

It took my a couple of days to finish this, so I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I certainly do hope so! ^_^
