Yep, here they are, the weird and wonderful triskaidectet of characters exclusive to the wild ride that is Donkey Kong 64! The only ones who have any story relevance are K.Lumsy and our favorite little Banana Fairies, but the rest of them are memorable in varying degrees, some more irritating than others. So, in order from left to right...
There's shy little K.Lumsy, the only good Kremling aside from Krunch. The rest I've in the past made up names for, so I'll use those as reference.
In Angry Aztec, we have a vulture, Aria, who challenges Diddy to fly through the rings she leaves behind, a llama, Pedro, who wants DK to free him using a Baboon Blast/Barrel Blast/Blast Barrel/Barrel Blasto Cannon Whatsit (the game is never consistent with this) and then leaves for a temple he calls home, and a beetle, Ray, who is the worst thing ever to grace this good peaceful planet and I personally swear I will kill him if he were real. There's a racecar NPC in Frantic Factory, but he's itty-bitty toy-sized and requires Tiny to shrink in both instances you meet him, so bleh.
In Gloomy Galleon, there's a seal, Scurvy Joe, who wants DK to race him in a little coconut boat and treats every day as if it were International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and a mermaid, Marina, who needs Tiny to retrieve her pearls from some freaky-looking clams in a treasure chest.
In Fungi Forest, there's a beanstalk, Farmer Jack, who... eh, an owl, Vinny, who's essentially a repeat of what Aria did, only with Busy Barrel Barrage! at the end, a bunny, Rodney, whom you have to backtrack to at one point because his real race requires a move you have to wait for Crystal Caves for, a worm in an apple, Applewhite, who lost her friends to a quartet of tomatoes, and her whole deal requires Chunky to grow for, and some weird cuckoobird in a college varsity jacket, Pine, who always shows up to say "AH! HELOO! TWEET, TWEET!" and apparently he has complete control over the cosmic balance there.
And at last, in Crystal Caves itself, there's, aside from the return of the dreaded Ray and Rodney, a... I'm not sure what Blizzy is supposed to be, and he wants to play a game in which you flip the tiles and the winner is the one who has more tiles flipped than the other.
And finally, in the center is everyone's favorite photogenic fruity fair folk, the humble Banana Fairies, whom I had essentially equated to the DK Isle version of basically God in the DKverse! It even got to the point where Tiny was prophesied to find and raise up their island via something about a "purple heart of courage" or something or other, rather than just being obsessed with fairies in general and being more than shocked and elated that she lived right next door to an island chock full of them!
I remember my favorites to use were Ray, Rodney (whom I then called Hop-C), and Blizzy (who was then called, I shit you not, Blizztopher). Definitely something to do with the fact that Lanky encountered all of them at some point in the game. Ray was a devout Kremling general who resided in Hideout Helm with the main 4 bosses, and Hop-C and Blizztopher were the ones who'd betrayed him, alongside Manky Kong for some reason because he was also a major character in my DKverse and he got the Starlight Glimmer treatment and was not only reformed and redeemed, but he quickly became the main character, and it was Ray's personal mission to make Lanky as miserable as possible. Eventually, Ray befriended Krusha and whatever the heck Lanky's secret inner demon was, which I'd called Sapphire on behalf of the Orang-Utan Gang being named after gemstones that matched their eye color and Lanky has blue eyes like sapphires. Heh, after a while the DKverse quickly became Lanky Kong Country after a little bit!
I only remember using Aria, Pedro, Marina, Pine, and those Banana Fairies once and only ever mentioning the aforementioned Banana Fairies by nomenclature every other time the situation called for it.
