It was almost like I could feel it in my chest before the chaos transpired.

The godless sound made my breath stop, my stomach twist into hopeless knots.
Everything around me was in slow motion as I turned my attention to the peaks.
Nothing made a sound but the earth, slowly, steadily trembling below our feet.

In moments, everything was blasted with white, layers of snow and sleet
descending upon us, sliding down at rapid speed from the mountains above.
The camp was instantaneously in an uproar, everyone screaming, gathering belongings, running for safety.

I spotted Robin in the center of camp. Her eyes were wide as a doe's and trained on the jagged crags.
I could barely gain traction, but it was all I could do to run as fast as my legs would carry me
through the thick snow and cover her while the winter shelves plummeted down on top of us.

She clings to me as we fall deeper into the ice below us.
I can see nothing but white. I can feel nothing but the bitter cold.

I stand my ground, determined to keep the brunt of the snow away from the woman cowering below me.

I pray Theodore and Indra are safe. I pray that the spirits will not wipe us out on our third day at the Outpost.

Surely there was a reason I felt called to these mountains? Did I bring us here to die?

My resolve is shaking like my legs under the weight of this avalanche.
