Description this is for the Generation 7+ GBA sprite project on on Pokemon Community. it's a continuation of the original project by Chaos Rush (gen 1-5) and MrDollSteak (gen 6)

oh btw saw your post in the project, just to clarify about the sprites from others, it was only fishbowl's sprites i used for poses in some, since we're friends and he allowed me to use the ones i mentioned anyway

the blackstar guy i mentioned in my description is another friend who doesn't make sprites but he opens the models of the pokemon from sun and moon and takes pictures of some poses for me and fish

Just out of curiosity how do you suppose this would look like if it was 80x80 sprite art? I'm not really asking if you would make one of these in the DS style I just wonder how you would tackle that.

do you mean how they would look if it fit them in a single deviation like this? or how the poses and coloring would look like if they were at 80x80 size? or what? sorry man the question is kinda vague

if it's about the process of spriting them and coloring and how the outcome would be, it wouldnt be too diff. these are just ds styled sprites in gba size after all. shading, lines, coloring would be pretty much the same. and gen 4 sprites arent too stringent on poses, so i'd prolly just use the same poses for most of these and change some of the others. would save me some effort that way Β  Β

May I ask how you get sprites to work for hacks? All of the sprites I've made for mine are indexed (16 colours)Β and have the background colour as the first in the palette, but it still acts as if there are too many colours, and, for example in my early game normal type shiny sprite, replaces the grey on the tail with pink from the ears, and does the same with many other colours on many other sprites.
I know it's probably something obvious and stupid but do you know what's going wrong?

Personally, I use a tool called PGE to insert sprites. It automatically edits the palette and handles repointing on insertion, so you shouldn't have to worry about those. Although as I said in another comment, it will crash if you give it a sprite with 17+ colors.

the advanced editor one I use does the same stuff but it doesnt crash. it just tells you the sprite doesnt work and you can fix it without crashing

and hmm, i'm not really sure. back when i hacked pokemon games, i used a program that automatically indexes stuff for me, so i just needed to make the sprites. the program was called advanced editor

i think you could also try looking for a program called wichu's sprite editor, although idk much about that program

Thanks you solved my problem- I didn't realise my program handled indexing for me so I did it beforehand, making it swap colours around needlessly.

thanks craig! Β these are actually still done with the quality and crispness of gen 5, just in geb 3 size and some poses are a bit gen 3 ish. Β I thinj the original gba project was called ds-style gba sprites or smth

Also, on the topic of sprites not working, the Skarmory sprite on Chaos Rush's thread crashes PGE. Any insight as to why?

i tried checking it. i see the problem. it's got 17 colors. the problem is there's a single unnecessary black pixel between the toes. i think chaos rush might have missed it when he was checking through the sprites. i think it's understandable, i mean he had to take care of 5 generations of pokemon

anyway, here's my fixed version. i just removed the unnecessary single pixel: sta.sh/0rbg36zvuol

Thanks! I kept trying to import all the gen1-gen3 sprites at once and could never figure out why Skarmory would crash. I always assumed it was just a PGE bug.

You're welcome! Hell, with all the sprites you have here - all you'd have to do is tinker with the sizes and poses some, and you've got B/W-style, haha.Β

haha ikr, i actually think some of the sprites i made for this are a bit better than some of the ones i uploaded to smogon. to be fair, i've had some time to improve and i think that shows in these gba sprites. planning on using some of these for smogon actually

and well, i think uploading to DA is up to you. it's fun to upload stuff for resource for people to use or just for the fun of uploading it, but i think discord channels and smogon would be a better outlet if you want direct constructive criticism and stuff yknow?
