Description I suppose it's because of the simple fact that both are major ocean themed stories, but I like to think that the events of Herman Melville's classic novel about what revenge can do to someone are part of the same reality as the beloved animated take on Hans Christian Anderson's famous mermaid fairy tale. And if that were made official in animated movie form (with said movie preferably being part of a timeline where 'The Little Mermaid 2' never happened), I imagine it having the following aspects:

-Moby Dick's battles against whalers have made him renowned among merpeople (especially Ariel) as well and would be considered a hero by those who held (or still hold) Triton's old beliefs about humanity if it weren't for the fact that some have also been killed by him.

-In terms of a personality, the Sperm Whale (who doesn't talk) has a "I owe allegiance to no one" mentality.

-Some years after surviving his ordeal, Ishmael (voiced by Val Kilmer) takes up residence in the European town just as Moby Dick arrives off its shores and does some damage. And having witnessed first-hand what Ahab's lust for vengeance against the angry cetacean led to, the latter makes impassioned (even rather aggressive) pleas with Eric and a local whaling captain to leave him alone lest they suffer the same fate as Ahab and the rest of the Pequod crew.

-And indeed, as it slowly turns out, there are worse sea creatures that are also offshore and are the reason for Moby Dick showing up in the first place which makes him indispensable in taking them down.
