Beta : Beta was beginning to debate the merits of getting a phone themself. For one, it would be nice to take pictures whenever they pleased, or even selfies. For another, it could make it easier to contact people - "Hey how're things? Still alive? Great!" - instead of, say, trying to track down their exact schedule and work location and house. No, Beta wasn't a stalker. Why would anyone think that? They just didn't like going on a wild goose chase was all. It didn't surprise Beta much to learn Elton apparently had his own laboratory - not fully stocked, but still fairly impressive for a one-person operation. It made a lot more sense why Elton was so interested in samples with that in mind.

The receptionist seemed wary to give them directions - Beta couldn't figure out why - but after they asked her to call down and confirm he was there first and to wait for a visitor, she seemed a bit more at ease telling Beta which floor to go to and which direction the office was in. It was great when things went smoothly.  Some trouble was fun, but not for matters like this. They began to whistle as they waited for the elevator. In the elevator, they debated the merits of picking up a new flute. As they exited the elevator, they decided the potential damage to the hospital would not be worth a new flute yet. Elton's office was relatively easy to find and thus, they knocked on the door and waited.

Elton: He was in his office since last night... hadn't been getting much sleep again, but he was deep in his research. He needed more samples from betas collar... but he decided that would be later. He also decided he might need to take a second job to get more medical machinery for his lab. He sighed lost in thought about what he needed. He had spent a lot of money on new locks for his lab and cabinets. After the stupid... Mayou incident. He sighed again. Then he got a call for a visitor he quickly confirmed, he didn't mind company ever really. It brought him new ideas at times. He was finishing up an report on how he would surgically put the stone near his heart when he heard the knock on the door. He answered the door to see Beta, and gave a kind smile,"Come on in, please." He was gentle with his voice as always.

Beta nodded appreciatively. "Thank you kindly." They stepped into the office. "I thought it'd be a good idea to check in. Don't think I've seen you since, you know. Ciel and Aurora?" A bit of an awkward topic, and one best not gone into detail just yet. "So. Dr. Frost. How is it going, by the by? Well, I hope?"

Elton: he sighed and sat down in his rolling chair. He leaned back, taking off his glasses and rubbing his eyes. He put his glasses on and yawned, taking out an essay. "This lists some of the metal I could identify... there's still samples going through... and as for trying to detect some of the objects ages... I'm going to need more time. I was only able to gather a couple possible locations... also listed in the essay... all of which were common places for exorcism materials... probably the things that aren't affecting you what so ever... I'll need more time to confirm this part as well." He sighed again, "sorry.. I wish I had immediate answers."

Beta nodded and looked around for a seat of their own. In the end, they settled for a corner of Elton's desk. "Well, doctor, that's very appreciated so far, and, if nothing else, it's probably more progress than I was making on my own. That said-" Beta leaned backwards, head tilting back, so they were eye-to-eye with Elton. Well, sort of. "I was also talking about you, you know? You weren't exactly doing so great last time I saw you. If nothing else, and if you think I can't be completely altruistic in my concern, then consider that distress and exhaustion could be affecting your work and I have every right to be concerned about that." They grinned. "So? How is it going?"

Elton: He gave a light smile... glad he was able to provide progress Beta hadnt been able to achieve before, "Im glad to hear that..." Then he paused with beta's next set of questions.
"Ah... i see" Very interesting question that is, 'how is it going?'. It could mean a mulitude of things... and people give just as many answers back. Avoiding the truth with the words just fine... at least thats what elton had learned from psychology. Elton sighed thinking, he figured Beta wanted an honest answer, so elton thought over his basic necessities. It took him a bit to formulate a proper sentence.
"I suppose.... ive been keeping to my schedule more or less..." He tried his best to reassure that he was fine.

"Not your schedule's very good, from what I've noticed." Beta lifted a hand, reaching backwards to hover a finger just in front of Elton's nose. "So that already tells me, not exactly good, per se." Still avoiding Elton's nose, they pulled the hand back. "I gotta say, I've made deals for dozens of people, and I swear some of them took better care of themselves than you do." They shook their head. "Can't help that very much, I suppose. I can't even imagine why, really, but I guess that's for you to know?" They lifted their head back up, facing away from Elton once more. "By the way, seen Ciel recently? He seemed to be doing fine at the festival."

Elton: He tilted his head a bit, he found betas way of interacting with their environment interesting. Elton listened to them, "Ah... its not too much of a mystery really... i just enjoy my balance. It... keeps me normal i suppose." He knew Beta experiences a bit of his frustration last time he was off his pills for a bit.... Things honestly never seem to go well when elton decides to actually take care of himself. He sighed. "Only... in the store... and... after a carnival incident...He stayed at my place for a day.... Its been a bit chaotic, but he seems to be keeping busy..." Elton gave a bit of a sad smile.

Beta nodded, listening carefully - a little less to Elton's words, a little more to his voice. He hadn't known Elton long, admittedly, but with how often he seemed to feel guilty and kicking himself while he was already down, he was getting pretty good at picking up that tone. Right now, he was picking it up yet again. "I see...." Beta nodded. "You know what's kind of funny? I'm thinking about it, and I think I've seen two times you were happy - being with Ciel, and studying the plants and my collar. Two totally new things that there probably isn't a lot of scientific literature for. I know we haven't known each other that long, but, I feel like I'm starting to detect a pattern, if I may be so bold?"

Elton: Elton was caught off guard by Beta’s sudden… perhaps the right word is assertion. He sighed a bit, “H-happiness?” He stuttered… he wasn’t used to being caught of guard… He sighed again and thought. Becoming a bit more mentally prepared before he spoke this time, to erase the stutter, “Ah… a pattern?” Elton was… honestly a bit confused. Emotions weren’t terribly important to him after all.

"Well, sure!" Beta turned a bit on their impromptu seat - enough to face Elton a little better, watch his expression. "I mean, I've seen you a monster and harmless.... and human and harmful." Beta put one hand on their chin, the other hand supporting the elbow - whether the thoughtful expression was genuine or joking was hard to tell. "Now, I don't claim to be a scientist - I'm a trickster, if I tell a universal constant to go away, it does, and that's not conducive to science - but I know the basics. Cause and effect, correlation and causation. And, well... you seem happy around people. Mostly Ciel, obviously. I wondered actually if you two were related. Also, happy doing science. Seemed to really perk you up. You could've just stopped at 'yeah, I don't know what this thing is'-" Beta gestured at their neck. "-and left it at that, but you were determined to study it - since didn't know what it was or how it worked, I guess?" Beta paused for a moment. "And your sources of misery? Causing damage, pushing away Ciel, failing to sleep, drinking enough coffee to give a human cancer including spiked coffee - you know, maybe I'm seeing a correlation and saying it's causation - but it seems to be related to, well. Being an ice demon. And when you're miserable, you lash out and do damage to the things you value. Which certainly sounds like the start of a vicious cycle to me."

Elton: Elton quietly listened to Betas reasoning, he didnt know quite what to think of it. Instead he sat there a long time.... He thought... and thought... and... thought, emotions werent something he was an expert on. When Beta said Etlon was miserable... he was even more confused. "Im... miserable?...." Elton never thought of himself as to feeling miserable... just tired... and frustrated. He never thought about lashing out either... he looked at beta.. with a face that said... he was clueless. "Emotions... arent... something i comprehend fully still... never quite saw... myself as miserable? Nor have i seen lashing out... only when i was... cold that one time with you... i was trying to rest and heal... But that didnt work.... I do suppose... most of issues i receive correlate to... me being an ice demon, but... honestly... being in the amount of physical pain im in... and here... I never expected to be.. happy? Just... enjoying... researching.. furthering myself. Thats what i wanted. " Elton sighed he had a headache from thinking about emotions.

Beta shook their head. "Really? You don't think so? Well, then, stop me if you've heard this one before." They began counting off on their fingers. "Neglecting physical health. Chronic fatigue. Irritability. Feeling emotionally and physically run-down frequently. Insomnia. Hopelessness for your circumstances. An unwillingness to engage in change, not because you think things are fine as they are but because every other outcome you can think of fills you with dread. Pushing away those close to you - and whether or not you understand the more humanlike emotions, it's obvious you and Ciel are close. Or perhaps were." Despite counting off on each finger, sticking with one hand and never doubling back, Beta still finished their eight-item list on their smallest finger. And still only five fingers. "True, I've only seen it once, but with what you mentioned at the store - and Ciel, who had absolute faith in you at the library giving you the cold shoulder? I am many things, Elton, but 'dense' has never been one of them. Just because you don't have a name for it doesn't mean you're not acting on it."

Elton: Elton seemed.... to be listening but still confused. He sighed, "Im only showing a few of those symptoms...A great deal of them come from living here.... Fatigue is my body constantly fighting off the heat... i would be tired no matter what i do... I dont have insomnia, i force myself to stay awake... as for irritablitiy... its only been because of recent events... " Elton sighed... he honestly felt like... beta had half the story, but it was nice of him to care. He gave a smile, "Thank you for caring... I dont wish you to worry any further." It honestly had just been these few weeks... its been too much. Ciel seemed to be isolating himself from elton , because ciel didnt want elton to be upset? He managed to fix it.. a bit, which was good because he knew time would heal whatever happened the rest of the way. Elton doesnt understand what he had been doing wrong. But elton straightened up how he was sitting before and made himself seem more confident.

"Because of being an ice demon." Beta shrugged. "Unless I'm mistaken." Self-induced or otherwise, misery was misery, and that was a currency Beta knew many monsters trafficked in. "But if you insist, then. You mentioned needing more samples, yes?" Beta slid off the desk's corner, landing on their feet. "I do suggest being careful - I can't say I know enough about ice demon biology to say what of the collar could hurt you later on."

Elton: He listened looking away a bit. He wasnt quite used to thinking about his emotions... but perhaps it was something he should do more often... or perhaps he could take a small vacation. No too much to do. He looked back at Beta as soon as they mentioned samples. Elton quickly smiled, excited. He stood up swiftly, "Its alright, im careful." He put on gloves and gave space to Beta, taking out other medical tools, and machines for collecting samples.

Beta inhaled and shrugged off their jacket. "Right then, a hop and a skip-" They did the actions as they moved away from Elton's desk and then deactivated the spirit item. There was the moment or normalcy before the form spasmed and stretched - lashed out, perhaps, was a better term as a swing from a massive tail that quickly evaporated dented the ceiling of the doctor's office.  After a few seconds, Beta.... floated in the air, feet clearly no longer touching the ground. Large crystal clusters had torn through their shirt at various points - wrist, elbow, chest. The collar had reappeared, hanging heavy. "....alright, Dr. Frost, I do believe that's it." Beta's voice wavered.

Elton: He watched in awe again... writing down what he had experienced once again. He honestly didnt want to miss any details... it was as amazing as ever. He stopped smiling as he heard Beta's waver... he didnt like putting beta in pain... Elton decided to work quickly. "I wont take long..." He collected as many samples as possible.. without hurting beta.  It still took quite a bit of time.. elton sighed a bit... he didnt enjoy the length in time this took. "Sorry..." he quickly apologized as he took his last sample... but he did honestly enjoy looking at the collected samples. "Alright i think this should be good..."

Beta had tried to keep still as Elton collected the samples, though their breathing seemed to be growing more and more ragged. When Elton announced he had finished, Beta grabbed the pocketwatch and let the transformative magic wash over them. Immediately, they fell to the ground and the first thing they did was take a big gasp of air, continuing until their breathing evened out. "....I think....they were growing.... in the tracheal system." Beta glanced up at Elton. "....how long-?" Would analysis of the new samples take?

Elton: He looked down at Beta... and gentle wrapped his tail around him. Writing down the observations... then taking off his gloves. He... was worried about beta... but honestly research like this took time. He sighed, " Some time... I don't have all the machines here to process the samples, some will have to be sent out. Then the data will have sent out to experts... it's going to take time, and I can't give a proper estimate."

Beta kept taking deep breaths but didn't seem to object to the tail - something to grip, squeeze when black spots crossed their vision, lean against as the pulled and strained muscles from trying to suppress the transformation (this was hardly an open space, after all, and now they had a ceiling to patch next shift...) threatened to give out entirely and leave Beta to their magic and nothing else. They couldn't help but groan at Elton's answer. "....you can hardly blame me... for wishing it would be quicker..."

Elton: "No... I don't blame you at all..." Elton looked over with his new collection of samples... then looked up at the ceiling. He let out a small sigh at the ceiling, but he was very satisfied with the amount of samples he received. He kept his tail protectively wrapped around Beta... he was worried again. "I... hope you don't mind... the tail..." Elton said as he moved to the lab, unlocking it. Then he took the samples and started to process a few of them. "I'll try to make it was quick as possible."

"Not at the moment, no....I hope you don't mind... the ceiling..." Though still tired, their breath was growing steady. "Should be able to repair it next shift..." Or the night shift janitor could, but it was Beta's mess. Beta did take some pride in at least being responsible for their own messes most of the time. As awful as the collar was, that was the worst part: being specifically designed so Beta couldn't take care of it alone. "At least I don't grow as big... as my sister, huh?" It sounded like a weak attempt at a joke.

Elton: "No... I don't mind, it gives a nice breeze," Elton gave an attempt of a joke back. He smiled softly. "Ah... yes... don't push yourself," he kept his tail around Beta. Eventually putting him down once elton thought he seemed alright. Elton sat back down at his roller chair, preparing some of the samples to be sent off. ".... I'm sorry, for being uncooperative," Elton suddenly said, he was referring to the part where they had talked about emotions, but he seemed to only want to apologize about it. He worked, "I'll try my best to get this done as soon as possible."

"Sadly, I'll recover faster as a human." Something like contempt colored Beta's words, their eye's gaze fixed on some point on the wall. "So by tomorrow morning.... ought to be able to work again..." It seemed to take some effort to push the words out, but the sentences were growing less fragmented. They nodded to Elton's apology and fell silent for a bit, though closer observation would show they seemed to be gathering their strength and composure. "Elton - you know I brought it up because you do have a lot of friends on this island, correct? I'm hardly the only one with concerns. I even heard quite the story - but I'd like to believe that it was a rumor or even just the misery talking. Not that you were planning to do something so... drastic."

Elton: "I'm glad to hear you will recover quickly, " Elton said turning around, looking at Beta.  "I suppose... I have interacted with many people.. perhaps creating friendships." Elton seemed to sigh a bit. Friendships were such a difficult concept... he didn't understand how they entirely worked, but he did enjoy talking to people he knew well. Then... he heard the last part of what Beta said, his tail twitched. "Ah... rumors do... spread," Elton didn't put much effort into confirming or denying any planned drastic changes. Instead he turned back around swiftly, and went back to work.

Beta felt the twitch under their hands. "...I see." For several minutes, Beta allowed Elton to work while they remained quiet, until they could rise to their feet. "You know, Dr. Frost - as I noted, you honestly didn't have to do all this, but I am genuinely appreciative. It's been a very long time, I'd say, though, since anyone's been able to get Betalaqul in their debt instead of the other way around." They weren't looking up at Elton, though, instead focused on their coat. "What if... there was an alternative to something so drastic? At least for a while."

Elton: Elton turned around to look at the now standing Beta, and gave a gentle smile. "Ah... don't worry about it..." he wanted to show a bit of affection towards Beta but that was short lived once he heard drastic again. His tail twitched, " Depends... what did the rumors say exactly? " Elton preferred that at least Beta have all the information, before much more was said.

"Oh, surgery on yourself involving some vital organs. I can't be sure if that would affect an ice demon, but as a human.... these forms do have limits. I can't say I'd be confident in standing by as you, in the state you keep yourself in, attempt to cut your ribcage open and hope that you don't end up suffocating or exsanguinating the moment you turn into a human form. Unless you intend to try that as a human, and I will be the first to say - they are squishy. And so very weak." Beta's eye darkened. "But of course, it's nothing more than a rumor, I would hope."

Elton: He listened, then sighed. His tail waved back in forth in a bit of annoyance. He knew all this, but he also knew... he could complete this perfectly fine. It seemed that the possible consequences is what everyone else focuses on... not the possibilities and successes. He sighed again looking down. "Yes I had planned on putting a stone next to my heart.. that would heat me up. It would bring my temperature to a humans, and not affect other creatures as much. I've been on modified liquid nitrogen injections for a bit now, this affects the chemicals in the stone causing it to heat. Using the modified liquid nitrogen ahead of time would allow my body time to get adjusted... and I've filled out forms for reserving the surgery room... I haven't officially turned them in yet. " Elton was quick to explain everything... he was honest with information at the very least... especially if someone pushes enough.

Beta nodded. "I see." They shrugged. "Well, in the end, you're creeping on your knees to the fireplace - but it is inevitable." They balled up their jacket. "What is to be done, is already done. The thing, then, is to make sure nothing occurs too closely together. You are to cure yourself, and you are to die. The question is how much time will separate those events." Beta looked over to Elton. They still had to be human, and yet the cross-shaped pupil stood out against the brown iris.  "How might you feel about a detour? Just to get yourself in adequate shape at least."

Elton: He felt... confused again... every time someone was concerned about him... he felt negative feelings. He was fairly certain about wanting to do the surgery, however... being as curious as Elton is, he can't help but wonder what Beta had in mind. He tilted his head, "what are you thinking?" He quickly asked.

"Oh, a little switch for you." Beta's smile grew. "Nothing long-term, just... maybe a break from being an ice demon for a bit? See what it's like to eat and sleep properly and not worry about hurting someone else if you do so?" The jacket was looking very balled up.  There was a faint crack, and Beta's other hand held up a translucent yellow crystal. "Hell, give me enough preparation.... and we could even outright switch. The ice demon's nature, held under control by an exorcism attempt, and you, a trickster. Now that might be a sight to see." They chuckled - and unlike the quiet dainty sound from previous attempts, this sounded more like the buzzing of a thousand flies carried on the wind. "I'm not expecting an answer now, of course - it's quite a decision to make, even as temporary as it'll be - though I do expect some questions?"

Elton: He listened... intrigued... he could gather so much information like that... research.... his tail moved a bit in excitement.  But then a thought hit him... how much pain would Beta be in as an ice demon, regardless of the collar... the heat would be much more painful. The cold magic would be under control, but the basic biology of that body existed. Elton would need to balance out the right pain medication for Beta. But the research... was so tempting. Elton also thought that perhaps... since the collar restrains the magic... perhaps it wouldn't leak out to the human form?... no it would it only restrains it. Beta would be more or less in his point of view with restrictions to the magic. What about the emotion loss... no the pain from the collar would be in effect... "why do you want to offer this to me? I know... that I would preform surgery and such, yet a being such as yourself wouldn't be as concerned with that correct? Unless it's attachment to others then... " he sighed thinking aloud, "it would be very painful for you regardless... I don't want to put you in the pain I'm in... you would feel it human form and natural form... I also wouldn't know how to use the body of a trickster... but..." Elton paused, "but... it would be so...  fascinating..." he mumbled at the end.

"....I choose to interpret all of those as questions." Still, Beta didn't fully face Elton, instead looking at the light through the crystal between their fingers, as though it showed images of the alternate reality they were suggesting Elton dip his toes into. "But to answer the first question - I think I already did, really. Certain events are eventual. You will cure yourself. You will die. And the only thing that's not set in stone is how much time separates these events. Consider it a means of buying yourself more time. Make sure that you're going about it the right away. It does no one any good if the island is abruptly short a doctor and a competent, multidisciplinary one at that. Science is your thing, but what you want to accomplish... is more in the realm of magic, I would think. Why else would an alteration in body temperature alter your psychology without altering your biology as significantly?" They squinted a little at the light. "You did take that into account when making your plans, correct?" They felt they knew the answer, though. They wouldn't be making the offer otherwise, not like this.

"Regarding pain - well, first off, remember that the full-on species switch is merely an idea. I could make you a shapeshifter. I could make you a centaur. I could attempt to make you a trickster, even, though it may be messy doing so from scratch. I suggest a switch only as a way to continue further studies with a practical model. After all, until my collar is removed, I'm rather unable to function without further testing on my part, aren't I? So what are a few more tests added in?" They shrugged, voice still light even as they spoke of being a lab rat. "It will be painful, but, Elton? Ask yourself if it can truly be any worse than what I'm already experiencing. Tricksters are magic, given form and desire. Had they chopped off everything below the waist, I would be significantly happier with my status." There was an odd tone that took a minute - wistfulness? "As for being a trickster, well, you are magic. You feel reality tensing away from you and your power, and, frankly, it's amazing." And back to the light-hearted voice Beta usually used. "Many of the young tricksters are a bit manic... but, again, this isn't meant as a permanent solution. Just a detour. Mastering full control shouldn't be high on your concern list, and no trickster is so powerful as to shoot off magic on nothing more than a base whim, even the chaotic ones. So that's hardly a worry for you."

Elton: He listened intently, watching the crystal. He nodded at Betas answer... yes the risk was there... elton could die. If elton died there would be much scientific loss... he couldnt even imagine the effect it would have on people. He sighed. His tail lashed a bit, he was very frustrated... he knew what he wanted to accomplish was always in the realm of magic but it was hardly soemthing he could touch. He cant... do anything with magic.... He cant even control his own cold. "Yes... i knew the risks... and the huge possible impact on myself... but... magic is something beyond me." He sighed again... still listening.

Understanding that he could be...other things as well, but the switch honestly did seem like the best option. Elton was completely fascinated with Beta as it is, and he was restricted from learning more about Beta. More... tests... Elton would absolutely love that... however he was worried about his base personality. What he was normally inclined to and how that would impact... it. It was the ice demons chemical balance in their head that causes their lack of certain emotions... perhaps.. he will have emotions with the switch... He sighed more. He was worried by the type of perspective he might have as a trickster. But he did understand what Beta meant.... if elton didnt have his hands... he couldnt be a doctor.. he couldnt do certain researches.. It would be a painful end. Luckily he can regenerate.. it takes time and is extremely painful. He tilted his head at Beta's sudden wistfulness, "Interesting..." He nodded thinking, "Alright... however would it be wise to know what kind of mindset i naturally have without my medications? I was raised to view myself above other creatures.. and ice demons have an inclantion towards anger. Although i dont try to view myself in such a way... when im angry i do... Im simply afraid by the difference in prespective i might have... however it is still  myself.. " He sighed once again. "But switching with you... sounds like an interesting offer..." He was glad beta didnt know of his first goal... used to be his goal... to become entirely human.

"Well, maybe more time to study is all you need!" Beta finally faced Elton with a grin that... didn't seem to fit the trickster. It was all too toothy, more teeth than could fit in a jaw, just a tad too wide to even be human. Perhaps that was it - having spent so much time with Beta trapped in human form, their features were starting to look a tad... uncanny as they made their offer. "And some outside perspective might help too. It's a bit like trying to drop a hammer on your own finger. At the last minute, you flinch. You don't mean to, but your body just won't let you do it as hard as you truly can. But you ask someone else to do it, well, they don't flinch, now do they?"

Beta considered over Elton's words. "...I see. Well, at least a janitor doesn't have an obligation to interact with people if they don't want to. Besides, I do wonder what effect the Nest might have if I became an ice demon." The Nest. There was something clearly important about the word, but Beta seemed entirely disinterested in elaborating upon it. "Might dampen some of that - but if not, well, your mind and experiences ought to be the same. Magic can't cure the mind, but you'll still be able to make your medications, no? So I don't think there will be any true danger." Beta's grin fell back to a smile. "I know what I offer is tremendous. So I won't expect an answer now. Just... think about it, won't you?"

Elton: Elton looked at Beta giving a nod, and a slight smile as well.He noted the smile mentally, might be important later side effect wise. "Ah... that does make sense..." he quickly agreed.
Elton also noted Beta said the nest... but he decided not to ask about it, since beta showed disinterest in speaking about it. "Yes... my experiences would be the same... and i would be able to take my medications.. however im assuming a trickster doesnt have the same mental blocks as an ice demon" Elton nodded again, "Thank you for the offer... ill think it over. However, you must know that if i accept it... ill be very dependent on you for help  as  how a trickster would... function.. just control i suppose and other things. I will also teach you as much as i know about ice demons... they have a natural hunger towards sentient beings and it can be difficult to control." Elton quickly added in some warnings, but gave a very appreciative smile.

"If anything, I'd say tricksters have very strong emotions. Why do you think I can swing from amusement to annoyance so quickly?" Beta couldn't resist throwing in that tidbit. It was something that tended to go missed, though likely because so many older tricksters like them learned to act, show only a bit of those feelings.

"And good to hear. Never good to make snap decisions." Beta nodded. "You have my word I'll advise to the best of my ability if you so say yes." There was no comment on the carnivorous nature of the ice demon. Instead, Beta settled back into a more relaxed and vaguely exhausted state to await the results of Elton's current tests.

Elton: He nodded awknowledging what Beta said, "Strong emotions might be difficult to handle…” He sighed a bit, “I’ll have to be in your care for emotions as well it would seem.” There really was a lot to think over for this… But elton decided he would give his answer as quick as possible, a few days. “Yes… however ill get back to you as soon as possible..” He nodded. “Im glad to have you as my teacher for when and if i decide to agree to the switch,” He gave a bow, out of respect.

He went to the lab, then came back with a sigh, “The results of the tests are going to also take a few days…” Elton also came back with his file, “But i brought this out so… if i do agree… you can learn about ice demons a bit…” He took something out of the file and hid it away on the desk. “You can read it even if i don’t agree to it, after all… I consider us friends,” he gave a kind smile.

Beta couldn't help but groan and take a full minute to go from standing to laying down on the floor. Clearly, one of the strong emotions of a trickster that they did not feel like masking at the moment. It wasn't Elton's fault, and they'd mention that.... in a moment. Once they got over the lab result news or lack thereof. Elton added more about himself - even a file. Beta just held up a finger in the universal display of 'give me a second' before dragging themself to sitting upright and looking up at Elton. "This is quite appreciated. Thank you, and I assure you I read it only in deepest confidence." They took the file from Elton's hands. "I'd return the favor - but, frankly, the things consistent about tricksters would probably fit on a postcard, and I think I already told you most of them."

Elton: He nodded back at Beta, understanding what they said. "Also... there will be names mentioned in that file. Dont attack any of them," He gave a weary smile. After all the document listed what scars he had and what had happened for him to receive them as well... Its a file on Elton after all. Medical history, tests, experiments, species specifics, anatomy, reproduction, almost everything really. Everything that is but actual history with people.. memories and such. No it was written quite logically... impartial as possible. The only missing data... was the scar on his face, it didnt say how he got it, but it was listed there under injury. What elton took away was an image... of stained glass, with the same scar on it. If anyone really paid attention, they would notice elton doesnt look at his own reflection often as well. Last thing documented were the times he went off his medicine, and for what reasons.... But names were omitted here...protecting them for no reason even when one instance was listed as stolen. Elton made sure to keep careful documents of himself really. "Im glad for the information you have given me, all of this is extremely helpful. Thank you as well."

Beta shrugged. "Depends on how you define 'attack'. I do try to avoid outright murder, if that's your concern." What was the point of that anyhow, hm? If anything, it felt like a mercy. Beta settled in with the file, trying to keep quiet while Elton worked on... well, Beta would have to ask another time, maybe? The least Beta could do would be to disturb Elton as little as possible while they visited. They did rather wish he think well of them, if nothing else was to be considered. However, as they read - the details on the scars made them frown, but they tried to remind themself Elton was - 25? Well, perhaps on an excursion, Beta might try to check in? The file was detailed. Except for the scar. Beta glanced up before continuing to read. That one was likely so deeply personal, he couldn't risk anyone finding out by accident. Or just genuinely and beyond embarrassing. For all their love of life and art and nature and socialization, Beta was still willing to bet the former. But after some time, Beta sunk into the file as if it were a particularly good novel, to the point of laying down on their stomach, chin resting in their left hand while the right hand gently turned each page. Anatomy was interesting - and probably why Elton's stomach appeared stitched up. That seemed logical. Doctor's oath, do no harm. But take no shit, they mentally added. Elton seemed to need a balance of the two, or maybe that was just Beta talking. Hm. The reproduction, they did their best to read with a straight face and not giggle like a human teen sitting in sex ed for the first time.

At least, externally, they succeeded. Species... they could see the gaps possibly filled in via magic. Not magic like the kind humans used to handwave an impossible scenario; magic that followed specific rules that were not related to physically measurable aspects of the universe, the kind that seemed impossible to explain until one wrapped their mind and desire around it and felt it hum through their limbs.

Gosh, no wonder Elton had to practically self-mutilate to keep his powers in check. It'd be interesting, how much the collar would harm and how much Beta themself would be able to control the ice demon's powers.

The last page was brief. Considering what Elton had said about their medicine, they were surprised there was more than one instance of him going off of it. But when the page mentioned theft - Beta's hand tensed.

"Oh, Elton." The voice was almost honey-laced, despite the carefully controlled expression Beta wore. "What happened this last time?" As if they couldn't read for themself.

Elton: “Well… murder and hurt, anything visible,” he gave a bit of a sigh, taking out a laptop. He was checking through to see if he had any more results from other places. Elton then decided he would continue researching deeper into what other origins the collar’s many components might have. He was typing, researching, and working diligently. Elton knew the file wasn’t as complete as it could be, however he cannot do surgery on his own head just yet to weigh his brain… too dangerous. There would also be the lack of magic details… however the small section he did make was based on his parents magic. Some of the later details would also explain how ice demons raised their young, explaining to them all the horrible things in the world first, murder, rape, genocide, slaves and so on. Humans were often used as examples for this. Then they would give a small bit of hope.. or curiosity. There was also mentioned the lack of emotions towards death, and how elton was luck his parents were desperate for a child. After all elton was considered a bit of a runt, and normally he would have been consumed at birth. There isn’t attachment, or affection with ice demons… Anger, logic, curiosity… Honestly emotions beyond this were like a disease to ice demons.

Elton stopped working when Beta called out their name, turning to face beta he tilted his head. Looking at the file he quickly realized what beta meant, his tail lashed side to side, visible annoyance. The air also grew colder. “Ah… a resident had decided.. it would be interesting… to see me off my medication. The resident… went so far as to steal… all the medication in the hospital… and out of my hands… then flush it down the toilet. To see me… as what i would be naturally. Unfortunately… anger is what first greeted them… I managed… to eventually get that under control.. and leave. I had to make.. my own medication… until we got more in,” Elton’s voice struggled to stay.. gentle it became cold quite a few times. “Its in the past now.”

Beta didn't even blink as the too-wide grin returned. "You don't say? I don't suppose you caught this resident's name, did you? Or maybe where they work or live? Any one will do." Elton hadn't forbidden public humiliation or damage that could be easily hidden. The possibilities were endless, really, when they were pushed into such a foul mood. Clearly, it still bothered Elton, even if he didn't seem to consciously realize it, and Beta? Tricksters could be many things. Some were gentle, nudging people towards 'goodness'. Some were kind. Beta.... was rarely either of those things.

Elton: His tail eventually stopped lashing... and slowed into a swish. "Ah... i do know both the resident and their residence location... however since it was a quarrel between them and I... i prefer not to say much more... I apologize. Thank you," Elton had the feeling beta wanted to do something for elton... however elton was a doctor... he couldnt say much. ".... Perhaps if you tell me what you plan. I might accidently leave a file out," He suddenly said looking away crossing his arms. Elton was clearly upset... especially if he left an opening like this. Air grew a bit colder... he disliked thinking about this.

Beta shrugged. "Oh, murder's already off the table. I am pondering a few things. A clogged toilet or two, a hose left running into a window, loosening a few pipes..." Beta pondered. "I mean, gosh, so many things can go wrong in old homes like these, don't you agree, Dr. Frost?" And this fellow better pray they didn't need any medication either. Beta didn't have to flush it - just fill the bottles with water and give them a few good shakes. Or split the capsules first. But nothing as dangerous as what they chose to do. Beta did have standards.

Elton: He 'accidently' opened one of the cabinets... and 'accidently' 'hit' a file out of the cabinet with his tail."Yes many things could go wrong in old homes now a days," elton sounded a bit cold... "Ah... sorry tails can be difficult to control. Would you please put it away for me?" It was a file on mayou, and it included where he lived. Elton conventently looked away to continue writing on his computer. He didnt have to pretend to work though, he continued to research into possiblities. "Thank you, " elton suddenly said in a kind voice.

Beta nodded. "Oh, of course. What an accident. I'll get it for you!" Beta seemed to be almost sincere in their words - though there was no way Elton could miss Beta very obviously looking over the file and taking in the information. "You can never be too careful with these kinds of files. Maybe in the future, you won't have to worry about people poking their noses into places they don't belong, right?" Beta put the file back. "And, honestly, Elton, it's hardly a problem for me. What else are tricksters for?" They winked maybe a little too hard.

Elton: He actually... laughed a bit. He couldnt help but be amused by the situation created. "Yes... you are quite correct... i can be never too careful with these files," he nodded. 'Conviently' missing what beta was doing...  Elton knew that he wouldnt normally do this... however the thought of mayou made his tail twitch and the air cold quite quickly. He sighed as he accidently touched the hidden image he originally took out. Debating.. did the scar actually matter... He pushed it to the side, it was face down, and touched his face gentlely. Feeling the scar... frowning. Eventually getting back to work, "Ah... you are right... however i still appreicate it." He smiled weakly this time.

And there was that chill again. Yup. Mayou Sota would find himself a little water-deprived in the near future. And all sorts of things happened to water heaters, so would ice-cold water for a few days while Beta got that all sorted out be fine? It was what he'd get either way, what, was that supposed to be a choice? Though the train of thought of how to best implement the plan got derailed a bit as Elton seemed... distracted? By what? The mood shifted, but subtly, in a way Beta couldn't quite identify at the moment. "Oh, not a problem. Still won't mind those lab results soon - I know it can't be the Christian stuff, I've literally advised wannabe exorcists on how to actually make a decent salt circle." And the first step was always dump the rock salt, it was typically too contaminated to be of any good.

Elton: Elton twitched his tail, he decided not to think about the scar anymore. Instead he focused on his research. He knew he had to be quick… but honestly it would normally… take months of this kind of thing.  He sighed, he was going to be as quick as possible, efficient. For Beta he decided he would get this done and come up with an answer. He nodded to himself. Then he received an email from one of the samples he sent out earlier. Finally more data… that needed more research. His focus broke when Beta spoke, “I think… ill be able to have more information for you soon enough… Perhaps we should meet up in a couple of days… two days perhaps, at the cafe. Then ill probably have more definite results then. Ill also have an answer to your proposal.”

Beta nodded. "Sounds like a date, doc! Hopefully, Mayou's water problem will also be dealt with by then! That'll be nice, don't you agree?" And Beta seemed fully back to their bubbly, cheerful self. Being able to catch a glimpse of the email over Elton's shoulder had certainly done a lot to lift their mood, and having something to while the time away, a developing plan to deal with the collar, and the potential of quite the interesting deal certainly all helped matters. "I suppose I ought to leave you to it? I suspect the next few days might be long ones, and I hardly want to be the one to drag you down." Beta began heading to the office door.

Elton: He smiled, "Yes it would seem so, and i hope their water problem... will be dealt with by then as well." He was glad to see Beta cheery, it was quite nice. "alright, see you soon." He watched as beta left, then went back to work.
