As I walked along all by myselfMy shadow decided to talk
"I'm you!" the shadow said
He danced about and pointed to his shoes
"All I do is walk and walk and walk"
"That's not all I do," I told the shadow
"Hm," the shadow said, "then you must not be you"
I ignored him and kept walking
A while later, as I walked along the same road
My shadow spoke to me again
"I'm you!" the shadow said
As he produced a deck of cards
"I lie, I cheat, I steal!"
"I don't do those things," I told the shadow
"Hm," the shadow said, "then you must not be you"
I ignored him and kept walking
As I continued down the road, night descended quickly
My shadow did not disappear
In fact, he chose to speak again
"I'm you!" the shadow said
While he waved a gun around
"I destroy the lives of those I meet!"
"I've never done that," I told the shadow

I ignored him and kept walking
In the dark I walked for a long, long time

I threw the mirror to the ground
As I looked from the broken glass strewn around me
I came to stare deeply into my own eyes
"Hm," I said, "then you must not be you"
