Description
More examples of my fossil photography can be seen in my DA "Paleo & Sci Illo" gallery:lexlothor.deviantart.com/galle…
This is my custom painting and mounting of a 1:15 scale Tryannosaurus rex model. This model kit was available for a brief time about 10 years ago. Although the kit was technically accurate and the bone elements were detailed and well articulated the manufacturer made these things out of a vinyl plastic rather than a rigid substance such as styrene. The unfortunate result is that despite the support rods, the model could not hold up its own weight. When the model company went bust I acquired four unused sets of this model at a second hand store.
I donated this mount to the Burke Museum in Seattle as a visual aid for its annual public "Dino Day". I used the same painting methods that I also used on a first generation cast of the Barnum Brown specimen's skull that I restored for the American Museum of Natural History.

Used to be my favorite dinosaur until I found out he had feathers and ate rotting meat.
