Description Just an idea that i think goes along with the somewhat new ubuntu indicators. It's not a 100% complete idea because it doesn't really consider everything, but i just wanted to make a point that if the sound menu and message menu launch apps and show indications, then the network indicator should as well.

Feel free to comment on this idea or edit it in any way you'd like.

Please adhere to MPT's spec too [link] and it will be worth featuring on OMG! Ubuntu!

Yes!
And Update Manager does need a running or updates available indicator, its a bit of a qualm for me. Going all the way to the menu launcher and then loading the resource heavy manager.
One thing I will say is it looks a bit spacious and i might take up too much of the screen.
This is an excellent idea and is exactly the type of thinking Canonical need for the next Ubuntu's. Well done

I don't know who to show this to get it implemented really, so if anyone has any ideas on that. Maybe i should i should put in the "incoming" part of the wiki?

Anyway, i'm glad i'm not the only that thinks this is the way it should be

They're sitting there as launchers much like Pidgin does. And i thought about the transmission indicator, and just think that it should be disabled by default if this were to be implemented. It's the same dilemma media players faced when the sound menu got the integration.

Looks nice, I would like though that menu items like "Update Manager" in that case, or "Transmission" won't show up if they have nothing to say. For example, Transmission should only appear if a torrent has finished downloading, or maybe not show up at all because it already has an indicator applet. Just saying

Great idea, but IM's are already present in the separate indicator applet, so I guess that would be no problem.
