Lil bit of something Trek Related. Idea I had for a group rising out of a highly mixed species community.

Wow Chief Science Officer. Feels nice saying that. Sometimes I can hardly believe it. Dad's so proud. Wish mom were here to see this. I know she'd be proud. We've been on the Kitamer. Fox's taken the position of Chief of Security. Somehow I think he's more proud that he's following in Odo's foot steps than about the accomplishment itself. Still from what I've read the two Changelings are quite different. Fox is a lot less up tight.

Anyway we've recently made contact with the Federation. Just a few months after the Silk Road disappeared. I've been asked to dictate something for them explaining in brief our history. Others from the various other species will be covering their own history. So here it goes.

We call ourselves the Bryd. An altered form of the word Hybrid. We are the descendents of the passengers and crew of the Silk Road. A Federation transport vessel. Silk Road was heading from DS9 to the new frontier station of DS16. En route however the Silk Road encountered a spacial anomaly. An unstable wormhole with that end drifting in time and space. It popped in right next to the Silk Road and jerked the vessel into it. The Silk Road came out the other side badly damaged, with failing life support, and 1,800 years in the past and 70,000 light years from home. The Silk Road made and emergency landing on the first habitable world it could find. The landing was more of a crash than a controlled landing. Most everyone survived the crash but the ship itself was structurally damaged. It'd never fly again.

Stranded the crew and passengers made a home for themselves on this new world they named Altan. Due to the gender and species make up of the ancestors it was impossible to maintain distinctive species. With time the major representative species melded into a single one absorbing a few that were representative by only one or two of the original ancestors. Bryd lineage is comprised mainly of Human, Klingon, Vulcan, and Bajoran. Minor contributors were Batazoid and Trill. Bryds have a long natural life span thanks to our Vulcan and Klingon heritage with some of use living as old as 300 years. Our Culture is a wide mix of our forefathers' and can be seen in the naming of our ships, what we eat, and how we conduct ourselves. That said out naming conventions are more Bajoran. Family name first followed by the person's name. I'm properly addressed as Lieutenant Kaval. Outstanding traits are our mental abilities. We're able to sense the emotions of others at a distance and perform mind melds. We're also capable of similar feats of emotional control though it requires some dedication to learn. Beyond that we have some of the backup Organs Klingons have.

Our greatest accomplishment though has been the founding of the Delta Alliance or simply the Alliance. Taking the better aspects of the Federation and getting rid of some of the bureaucracy. We explore, we make contact with new species. To seek out new Life and new Civilizations and Boldly go where no one has before. Most contentious change however is our lack of StarFleet's General Order number 1. The Prime Directive. The Alliance Council after much Deliberation found it to be a bit cowardly and it's implementation dogmatic. Instead we formed the Articles of Contact.

1. Contact with a pre-warp civilization is to be avoided if at all possible to allow for the natural development of their civilization.

2. Article 1 is void if the species in question is already aware of life beyond their home system or if the species is in eminent danger of extinction.

3. If contact is necessary the commanding officer is to contact Alliance Command and inform the Council on the situation and follow their instructions.

4. If time does not permit contact with the Council the CO is authorized to use best judgement to resolve the situation and make contact afterwards.

5. The Internal affairs of other nations are not be interfered with unless relevant parties request intervention.

6. The Laws laid forth by a Nation are to be adhered to and respected within reason.

I hope that'll be good enough for them. I'll run it by Fox when he gets off duty. Maybe he'll have ideas on what to add. At any rate I think that's it for this Log entry."
