Ye, but while the day royal guard is loyal to Celestia, I believe that the night (royal) guard was loyal to Luna at that time.
Also, NMM armor and night guard armor look quite similar.
I think it would be more logical that they fight on NMM side than the shadowbolts.

The shadowbolts have the advantage of being invoked and being therefore of utmost loyalty. The Royal Guard, no one can know whether or not she followed Nightmare Moon in her delusions in the past and it would surprise me greatly. There would have been a split.

One small detail that I'd like to point out is that in the midst of an impending battle with an army of elite pegasi warriors and an army of soul-sucking pony-like insects, Rainbow Dash shows no fear in the face of danger.

or heck some kind of nightmare creatures. the comics provide that potential.
i am kinda half an half about this story. on one hand, it looks Gorgeous. clearly this is a situation where time has been screwed with so beings are outside of time itself.
on the other hand it was triggered by a being of chaos stealing a part of the tree of harmony, without said tree of harmony retaliating.
the story itself catches my interest, as we do not know who the actual threat is, yet how it starts kind hampers it.
