Description

Somewhat off-model Trailmon Kettle, in a railway station (Dresden according to the name on the background I used).

The only reason I finished it off-model is deadlines, otherwise I'd have spent far longer fussing about everything, down to the coupler design (I have no idea how the canonical one is supposed to work, so I just ripped off a Janney/AAR sort instead). Digimon make less sense than I'm entirely comfortable with, and every canon image I found shows a gyroscopic monorail with one leading wheel, three probably-driving wheels, and two trailing wheels. With cylindrical structures where most steam locomotives kept their pistons.

Which is really quite weird: this would put the piston rods quite far from the wheels, and in any case no linkage at all is visible in the pictures I found. Worse, a gyro monorail has an even greater requirement to supply power when stationary: each car contains a pair of gyroscopes to keep it upright, and while support struts can be provided for unpowered stabilisation it would miss the point to design these for use while moving. This is on top of any locomotive designed remotely the way humans do needing to power at least one subsystem while stationary: the brakes!

So in my fanon most trailmon--Ball possibly excepted--have electric transmissions or something. The actual prime mover and control systems are digimon weirdness.
