Description
Theeeee hardest challenge and practice I ever had. But it was very, very helpful. Now I don’t afraid to animate wool! Now I’m afraid to animate the papyrus, hahaha.I didn't succeed in it in my perception, but at least I'll start to think about the cheating when the character's patterns are highly detailed and character's rich forms ruin my attention to certain parts. And the animation of Nature features it's like "what to do with your fancy grasscut ohmyohmyohmy".
And these little birds are also a great achievement for me! And Aumm has the running gif! I like when characters have gifs.
So, nice practice in general!
Here you can see kind of process: [Tumblr post ]
Programm: Clip Studio Paint Pro
The body movements were based on dachshunds photos but strongly corrected to have a deep snaky wave. Maybe that's why I didn't succeed, hmm.

I think it's pretty good! I love the character design, the background stuff is better than what I can do in a still piece, and it's fairly smooth.
There are a few things I'd improve, though. Mainly how the head and spine moves. If you were making this similar to a wolf or dog, I'd say keep the back motion, and just keep the head/neck relatively straight. But, you said in the description you were trying to pull of a serpentine sort of motion. For that, my advice is to kinda lead with the head. Make the trademark 'S' movement with the spine by having the head point and move upwards, then kind of go into an arch downward in that shape. Then you can just follow that with the spine.
Secondly is the mane. It feels a little unnatural in this cycle, which I think is because you both wanted to keep it's shape, and treat it like normal hair. I'd say, if it's a stiff, shaped mane, to do one of two things. Either, as the last commenter suggested, treat it like paper, or, just kinda pull it back a bit. When it bounces, don't do it on the side. Bounce it from the top. It'll work better.
If it's a loose, flowy mane, just let it flow back, straight, and have it follow the neck, going up when it goes down and down when it goes up. Basically, just remember the laws of physics.
Third is the tail. In your cycle, it kinda flops onto the ground. If the character was moving slower and/or jumping or pouncing, I'd say it works. But, your character's running, and seemingly fast at that. In that case, the tail should just be flowing in the wind behind them.
I also noticed you kinda cheated with the patterns. I understand why. I've only animated relatively simple stuff, and that's hard as it is! I can't imagine how tricky patterns or even shading would be! However, if you were gonna go all out, I'd just make sure it curves and distorts in the right places when those parts are moving, and I'd make sure it bulges and dips where there's limbs, muscle structure, bones, etc creating shapes on the body. Additionally, I'd create each pattern layer individually for each frame in the cycle (make sure you both have onion skin on and have a good reference image). Treat the patterns as almost their own animation, just based on the main cycle of the character.
I think that's all I have. Again, it's pretty good! Love the character, the colors and emotion in the animation, the background, and the bird cycles. Just a few physic/motion related things I thought might be good for you to know if you ever do similar run-cycles in the future.

Oh, I think I could imagine what you meant when you talked about the mane! Yes, definitely, I should have moved it back and front by the horizontal line of the spine, and not to force to fall on the character's sidepiece :"D But I really didn't want hair, I wanted to make something like bamboo, but a papyrus, ahaha. I know, I tried something dumb and strange :"D
Absolutely agree with you in terms of the tail, here I was was like "aaaa, I can't move tail I have no idea how to do this", eh :"> Still not sure how I can achieve "following the character," but with a presence of some movement. Do you think it might be worthwhile to give it the same wave that the body has...But weak "S" maybe with the "jumping" of tail tip?
I agree with all the other things as well, I need to try them in the future! And thank you very much for your tips and advice. I really appreciate the time you spent to write this text and I'm honored to have the attention from you and to accept this help! It's really important for me to get help in this thing, and the fact that people so responsively approached me is a great joy! Thank you once again

In that case yes, it would've looked a bit better if you treated it as a stiff mane. For the tail, yes, I'd definitely recommend having it follow the 'S' movement of the body. I'd prolly need to look at some references to see how exactly though lol. Best I can imagine is to just have it move relatively minimally. Have it be pulled up or down with the movement of the end of the spine, but remember the character's moving fast, so there should be wind constantly dragging it back. At least, it should be dragging the fur. With the tail-bones, you could perhaps continue the spine movement, but have it kinda fade out. Really, with the tail, definitely don't make the movement as dramatic as the rest of the spine. Have it follow, but always make sure the wind's having effect on it. It shouldn't really touch the ground unless the character slows down, stops or jumps.
So yes, I think it'd work with the weak 'S' and maybe a small "jump" for the tail-tip. Then again, I'd recommend looking at other clips or animations of animals with similar tails to gain a better point of reference.
And you're very welcome! I noticed there were a few people just being disrespectful, and others who gave just little bits and pieces of advice, and still some others who only pointed out it's flaws without tips on how to improve. I just thought I'd compile everything I personally noticed, and try to give solutions lol. I'm very glad I could help, and I'm excited to see what you create in the future!
Best of luck!

Sorry for waiting, I hadn't access to the computer for a while; u;
YAY! I'm glad I understood you correctly! I will try to use these tips and advice in the future and I hope I will able to avoid at least fails with the "S" and manes movement! This character hasn't bones in its tail [it looks like horse's cropped tail - very short itself but with long hair], but in any way you're absolutely correct in terms of "S" for this tail too, as I can see currently, these types of tail make the same movement in videos with horses. Thank you that you pointed me this!
It sounds helpless, but I wouldn't have noticed it myself ouo"
It's really very good! I love this, and always glad to accept help, especially such detailed help! I'm quite blind in the process of work and I don't have anyone who could tell me what to do. An intuitive art process :"DD So, every your word are worth its weight in gold, dear! I'm pleased that you have responded to help me! *hugs*

I'm very glad you found some good reference for the tail! I never thought about horses. I guess they would have a very similar tail structure XD
Thank you so much! I'm happy to help!

I'm sorry you got some rude comments down there.
This is super impressive for such a complex character animation! I think the cheat on the fur pattern was done pretty well, and it's not distracting at such a small size.
The birds and grass are a nice touch too, so great job! c:
I think I would try to simplify more in the next animation, however, for some of the detailed bits.
I learned it's important to keep a copy of your first image as a visual size-guide in the background while you animate, to prevent volume-shift in things like the mane/tail.
I'd also suggest keeping the mane more as a solid object while you get the keyframes down, (imagine a fluttering piece of paper rather than individual strands). You can always add the hint of detailed strands once you have the flapping animation perfect. That'll help with the volume/size changing too.
Animating the head bobbing has always been a weak point of mine, so I think I notice that here too.
I think a big part of that has to do with animating S-curves.
You could always exaggerate the run more by using something like a squirrel, especially for that big tail. Squirrel Tail Animation (not my drawing, just an example)
It also helps smooth out the animation because you lead the run with the head, rather than just the spine bending with the placement of the legs. It kind of forces more weight distribution too, because squirrels really push themselves off the ground when they run, while greyhounds stay pretty flat and go strictly for speed.
It can be hard to get the weight of a running animal across if they don't exaggerate their weight enough.
Not that I expect you to go back and redo your animation, but just things to keep in mind for another one in the future if you try your hand at it again!
Thanks for reading all this! You know I love everything you draw, so I can't help but get excited about things. c:

AAAAA, MAN, YA KNOW WHAT? I didn't even think before, that I can really freeze one layer for size-check!!1 Aaaaa!! This is such a simple and such a brilliant thing! Thank you very much for these tips and all advice, it's a really COOL and important for me, to have this!
Oh, this squirrel looks very familiar! So good that on this scan written what a book it is! [Now I even have a goal - to start searching for it, and thank you very much for this!] And yes, I saw the way it moves its head, indeed, it looks much better than a dangling head I made, ahaha ;"D Keeping in mind!
Yes, the feeling of weight is also a very important detail, which is difficult for me to understand, but I think that here I need to study the theory. But I always forget about it! And you help me to remember this and "get up"! This is one of the reasons why I learn English, god bless all texts are in this language if not in French [sometimes it seems to me that I have to learn it, if I want to get to everything I want to read, but I heard that French is a pain :">].
I can do a lot of things with varied success, but circle movement still the most painful thing with 90% of fail which I can't "feel". I think it's because of practice lack [so natural for a human to avoid things this human can't do], and therefore I will do a lot of circle run/walks in the future to gain "experience" in my head. So, then I'll use your tips and words surely! Ahhh, thank you very much for the time you shared with me to write all these valuable words! I really appreciate your feedback, it's an irreplaceable help which shows me the way to move!

Yeah! And this experience gave me full understanding that "I need to make something with character's markings if I want to continue my gif journey". Before that, I thought "Well, I'll spend a little more time, phhhh, whatever." But to make the complicated pattern coincide in the rhythm of the movement simply unreal for my lvl in the end. Not to mention the movement of each hair and triangles, haha, I constantly forgot something in the process. +30EXP to noobLiktar's lvl.

Absolutely!!!
YEAH! Animation is funky, my guy. There's eo much you don't know about it until you dive in... That's so cool that you're learning, though!!
A tip for patterns is to make sure the simplified shapes line up with a "reference point) so that you can align the shape better! For example, a dot lined up with the center of a back
Or a stripe that goes around the leg just above the ankle
You have a reference point so you can always keep the character's design on model with their simplified design!
