I don't often draw animals, but I tried. The ones on the left were done without reference, and the ones on the right used reference. I personally think the ones on the right look a lot better. Referencing is super important if you're not sure what something looks like.
the animals from top to bottom are: Cat eye, dog eye, dragon eye(kinda just a fantastical and vaguely lizard-y eye), and goat eye. I don't really have exactly brown colored pencils, which proved a challenge when coloring the fur of the dog.
