Description
"I know," Dolly smiled at Woody, smiling at Bonnie as she fidgeted in a dream. "You think you'll never really love again. Then she picks you up and holds you and you can't remember what it was like to be lonely."Where was she now, he wondered? Swimming with rainbow fish through sunken cities? Running through jungles of giant flowers? She had tucked him in beside her. Maybe she was singing in the streets of a little western town, where she would need a brave and loyal sheriff.
Had he ever been this happy?
I think I love Bonnie so much because she reminds me of my little sister (who is not so little now) when she was that age. Big dark eyes, cute as a bug's ear. She's always been so creative and funny and different, a galoshes-and-a-tutu kind of girl. And she was always sweet to her toys. She even had a Godzilla who had his own booties!
I hope it doesn't need to be said, but any inappropriate comments will get you deleted and blocked without prelude. Be nice.

Bonnie and Lilo should totally play together. Disney makes some cute kids in recent years, I have to say.
You more or less illustrated how I still treat my toys. I hope they feel as loved as Woody does here. :3

OMG. This is so perfect in every way. I know, I think Bonnie's my favorite new character. What's not to love? And I adore the look on Woody's face, and the way he's just so content and protective and d'awww... and it goes without saying that Bonnie is adorable. This has to be one of my favorite pieces from you yet. Also, the fact that it's in-universe, and it's not badassCowboy!Woody- it's ANDY's (Bonnie's now) Woody, the toy I love, showing the tender side of his too-big heart. Sure, he has a jealous streak a mile wide, and he lets it go to his head sometimes, but I think it's THIS side of Woody that really captured my heart as a little girl.
You know, I just got a tour of JANIMATION's studio yesterday, and the artists' work area (cubicles) was decorated with little figurines on top of the low walls separating them, mostly Pixar and Dreamworks characters (many look like they could be Happy Meal toys), and the one I saw the most of (3 times) was Woody. n_n Makes me feel a little more normal. I mean, last week, I bought a Woody doll much like the one that got trashed in the 1998 flood. (got Buzz too, because I need SOMEONE to keep Woody company. Would've got Jessie, too, if they'd HAD her). Anyway, this piece just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

I totally want a Woody doll. I know I'd just try to unseam his clothes and make him new ones!
I know, I think this is the stuff that really makes us fall for Woody. He's not perfect, but he just exists to be loved, to be what his kid needs him to be. He would do literally anything to do right by his kid. And I love that it was entirely his decision to stay with Bonnie, because he knew. They had all been what Andy needed them to be. Now Bonnie needed them.
That studio sounds cool! Where is this?

In Dallas, Texas. Just a 30 minute drive from my house. It's small, probably much like how Pixar was as a start-up company (y'know, back when they were in a warehouse and all), but it's been around for a long time and does a lot of marketing, some videogames, movies... they work with clients. Unlike Pixar, which is its OWN client (plus Disney). They have a website! [link]
And you took the words RIGHT out of my mouth. Woody is whatever his child needs him to be, and he's said (and proven) as much many times. Er, and Pixar totally puts Buzz right up there with Andy on Woody's List Of Most Important People. It's explicitly stated that You've Got a Friend in Me is about Woody's relationship with Andy at the beginning of the first movie, and it's about his relationship with Buzz at the end. XD And in TS3, he just automatically assumes Buzz is gonna follow him without question. It's part of why I can't seem to draw one without the other, because they are so interconnected in my head. And the second movie drew as many parallels as physically possible between them, using events from the first movie. Man, Bonnie is the best thing that could've possibly happened to him. To all of them. I hate fanfiction that has him pining after Andy when he's with Bonnie post-TS3. It just invalidates the whole ending where the torch is passed on and he CHOOSES to stay with the other toys, with BONNIE. I LOVED that. I cried! Maybe that's part of why I love this pic so much, is because it embodies/illustrates Woody's relationship with Bonnie as his new Andy.
QUICK! HURRY! Go buy a Woody at Wal Mart! Only $12!!!! Buzz was $35. Woody costs more like $35 if you get the full-out talking one with the pull string, though. Now, these are the Thinkway toys. The Disney Toy Story Collections brand Woody and Buzz are more expensive. I know Buzz is at least $50...

I love how you love these guys. And yeah, I love how Buzz and Woody really love and need each other. I think of the end of the second movie where Buzz asks him if he's worried and he says, Nahh. Things will change, life will go on, children grow up. And I still have my best friend. Things are gonna be okay.
Dude, what's the difference between all these different toys? I would totally save up and shell out for the high-end Woody.

I would too, if he were AVAILABLE. I'd have to go someplace else, someplace I don't already know about. The differences are little level of detail things. The Disney Toy Story Collection models are the most movie-accurate, can say a bajillion phrases, etc. The cheaper Buzzes, for example, don't have ALL the features, just some. Like, my Buzz doesn't have karate chop action, but his wings work, he's fully poseable, his laser works, he has voice phrases, etc. ...though, I took his goddamn batteries out ASAP because I keep accidentally pressing buttons when trying to pose him.
My Woody's hat isn't as detailed as the expensive brand's, lacking the darker brown part. Mine was super cheap because I got one that doesn't talk- I want him to pose for me, cuddle, etc, not make noises. I can supply a pull-ring with very little mental effort when using him as a reference to sketch. His boot doesn't have Andy written on it, and the paint might not be the most detailed in the world. But so what? I'm a poor college student. The things he DOES have are the things that I care about.
If you want to see them, there are pictures in my gallery:
[link] [link] [link]
The REALLY expensive Buzz can record short audio segments and play them back, apparently. Another one speaks english and spanish. Mine is "Blast Off Buzz," and I don't know which Woody.
Anyway, I'm satisfied. And I'd feel kinda like I was betraying them to go buy a more expensive one NOW, when the ones I have are great!
My favorite scene had to be at the end of 3, when Woody is sitting on Bonnie's porch, blinking away tears, and Buzz just reaches over to sling an arm around him, and from there everything gets happy and fuzzy. Or the fact that in the previous scene in Andy's room, when he's making The Decision, his focus shifts from Andy in the photo to BUZZ, as though he's weighing them both in his mind as equal forces drawing him in two directions. His bond (however you interpret it) with Buzz is as strong as his bond with Andy, apparent from the first movie after the little honesty session in Sid's room. It just adds even more dimension to the characters.
...I just can't believe that Bo Peep didn't show up at the end. Is it so hard to believe that Bonnie's mom couldn't have bought it from Andy's mom's yard sale? It would be a stretch, but still acceptable. As things stand, Woody is single and it makes me sad. D:
..I'm having WAY too much fun chatting with you about this.

Who could make this scence dirty? A child's inocence is quite eviable, and not something you want to tarnish. I really love this picture, and I'm gald that it was you who drew it, no one can quite capture a real human emotion like you can.

Sleeping Bonnie is so cute!!!
When she was making up all those sweet random stories in her room, or in the backyard, she reminded me of my little cousins playing Spiderman, fighting the bad guys

i always say that the ending was bittersweet, but really, thinking about it now, i wouldn't have it any other way.
i think i found it so bittersweet because Andy grows up- and it reminds us that we're growing up, too. and we can't go back to our childhoods... but that doesn't mean we can't take the lessons we learned with us, and stay young at heart. or something like that ; )
this is just beautiful. i love all your toy story art, but i think this one's my favorite so far. in my case, it was very thought-provoking. thank you for such wonderful art. (:
