UPDATE October 27, 2008I started to rework my roses series to refine the print quality of the pictures.
Corrections:
- General noise removed
- Color fringes removed
- Bokeh softened
- Double effect at the edges removed

Here comes the elegant beauty Onyx to you! I really like it. Due to some suggestions I even could improve the picture. Do you see that there is still a tiny hint of color in it?

It does look very muck like velvet.
But I can't help but think it looks more like it would feel like a soft peach. 
Though it still looks as made out of stone...
But if you don't mind me saying, the fuzzy white-ish outline of the outer petals to the top and top-right of the rose caught my eye.
It looks a bit like motion blur, and to me that looks a bit off. O_o
Don't know if there is anything to do about them though? Cause I got this sneaking suspicion they are a product of your lovely velvet effect.
Anywho, amazing combination of the feel of hard stone in the background and then soft velvet... I'm impressed!

Well, sweetie, I have done nothing to the photo but changing hues, saturation and contrasts. All other effects are from the shot itself. First of all let me tell you this rose has a natural look of soft velvet. >> [link] (This is a totally unedited shot.)

Wow, I didn't know roses could have such a velvety quality to them. 
I'm still not fond of the white-ish outlines. ^^ But many, many others seem not to mind, so this time it might just actually be me being a nit pick.
And as I said, it really IS a beautiful picture! And the message I see in it is well worth pondering upon.
