This was drawn for Images of Research contest at my university, to explain my area of research.

Here's the description:

"Visual scenes are complex and not all parts may be visible at once, since objects can occlude other objects. The brain’s job is to solve this “jigsaw puzzle” of visual perception to give us a coherent representation of the world. It uses expectations and previous experience to predict the missing information and thus fill in the gaps."
