I think so. Especially since newer programs don't support XP anymore. I thought the same thing about 98 when XP was still out and I found out that 98 wasn't supported anymore.

Old windows 4eva!!!

LinkMasterXP In reply to Funkytankgirl [2010-09-11 19:57:05 +0000 UTC]

Funkytankgirl In reply to LinkMasterXP [2010-09-11 23:19:30 +0000 UTC]

LinkMasterXP In reply to Funkytankgirl [2010-09-13 20:40:25 +0000 UTC]

Good one! I'm sticking with Windows 2000 for a while after being on a Windows Vista laptop.

Everything works with Windows 2000 (especially the latest version of Firefox) as it did with newer versions of Windows.

95c/98se/ME's good for retro gaming as well, and if one has trouble with ME or any of the 9x releases, they're doing something wrong, I set up a retro gaming machine with ME and haven't had any trouble with it that wouldn't normally be in 95c or 98se in addition, eg. the occasional BSOD. Haven't had the BSOD Hell that has been reported many a time with ME, had a few BSODs that were spaced few and far between, which is normal for 9x anyways.

ppgrainbow In reply to DFX4509B [2015-03-10 05:14:53 +0000 UTC]

That's why I'd preferred Windows NT 4.0 over Windows 95 although it is a less user-friendly OS.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DFX4509B In reply to ppgrainbow [2015-03-10 05:26:25 +0000 UTC]

Neither NT4 nor 2000 can run DOS apps natively either, one advantage 95c/98se/ME has in the gaming area, and the big feature I was looking for in this case as the rig in question is set up for both DOS and Windows gaming, that and ME has the latest MS-DOS version available at 8.0, while 95c and 98se have 7.1, plus ME has a couple features that neither 95c nor 98se have that makes the job easier when adding new games: native zip archive support and native flash drive support.

Basically, different reason for running old Windows than you, I run it to game on, you run it for more serious stuff or I dunno what exactly.

ppgrainbow In reply to DFX4509B [2015-03-10 05:49:22 +0000 UTC]

True. NT 3.x, NT 4.0, 2000 and 32-bit versions of Windows XP and up can run DOS-based software using the Windows NT Virtual Device Machine (NTVDM).
