Description
Walking. A noise. I turn. Nothing.Nothing behind me. I walk again, then look down. A shadow, of a tall tall man, and tenticle like shadows behind him. He puts a hand on my shoulder, his mouth parting into a gooey demise of teeth. He won't hurt me. He's always there. No one believes me when I talk about him. A tall man, very tall, with no face. I never hear him, but he's here. When I walk in my neighborhood. It's dark and gloomy, storm clouds coming and the kids all inside, fearing the storm. The woods blow with eerie winds. They say something lives there, so old and so ancient. I walk alone, sometimes slow on my road. I look at the grey skies, and the dark forest. I feel someone behind me. I turn. Nothing there.
But there is something.
He's there. The Man.
He watches me, over me. He's my guardian in the Dark.
He looks harmful, and silent, and very mysterious.
People don't understand him. I understand.
He's lonely, always rejected, always regarded as weird, and not to be trusted.
That's how I am. People always rejected me, and always did not like me around. I'm lonely and alone, like him.
He found me in the woods. I was crying, I ran away. No one likes me, I thought, no one loves me. He did not do away with me like he would to any wanderer in his woods. He understood me. I understood him.
He was there for me.
He is my Silent Guardian

In that logic anything can be made a a silent guardian.
Think of the devil, yes the biblical devil.
He gave us humans critical thinking, which God didn't want.
God wanted us to not eat from the tree of knowledge of whateverthehell
so we could basically be thought of as slaves for eternity.
But the devil did is a favor and turned the tables there with a single conversation.
Also, the Devil killed a grand total of 10 people in the bible, while God killed around 2.3 million.
He understands human nature, but he doesn't judge you for being human.
He accepts god's unwanted children unconditionally. And still, he's called a dickhead.
Why? because he can take it.
Because he's not our hero. He's our silent guardian, a watchful protector.
A better one than SlenderMan ever could, can or ever will be.

I love this little story, being lonely is easier with a guardian who looks like us. With someone who can understand the hell where we are...

If Slenderman ever follows you, just give him 20 dollars and he'll leave. Probably. After killing you.

The drawing reminds me of the servants from Fate/Stay Night and the monsters from Shin Megami Tensei, I liked it alot.
About the story, I liked your vision of slenderman, but I think the original slenderman, tall guy in the background of photos, is better, but that is my opinion.

I'm not usually thrilled with people who would take a monstrous "always chaotic evil" character like Slenderman and make him friendly to a specific character. That's something that makes a powerful and compelling story, and something that is damn difficult to pull off without cheapening the monster or making the friend into a flaming Mary-Sue.
But you've acknowledged that Slender is monstrous and dangerous and unknowable, and incorporated that into the dynamic he has with your narrator character, and you've done so elegantly and without the excessive fuss.
Props to you, OP.

Yeah I hear ya. I always feel like there's another less scary side to every monster. And yes while I do believe Slenderman would kill me if I saw the guy, if someone who actually understands the creature met it then it probably won't attack. Not everything wants a human sandwich.

My first thought when I saw this on the front page: Who's the guardian, the boy or the monster? The Boy: He protects the monster from those that want to do away with him. The Monster: He protects the boy from anything that can harm him.
I read the beginning of the piece and I had the strange feeling I knew what this was about when I read "a tall tall man, and tenticle like shadows behind him . . . " so I read the authors note and immediately saw "Slender" and I went OMG NO WAY HOW DID I NOT REALIZE THIS?
So I read the rest of the piece and then thought "Wow, I never thought of it like that before" and looked at the picture again to realize that it definately was Slender Man
But anyway, great job absolutely love it

Without reading the text or title and looking at just the image, I actually thought the idea was one child's courage standing up their nightmares was the might to halt him in his tracks.
"Nightmare, nightmare, go away,
fade away with the light of day."
