Description
Searching for Meaning ~ PrologueLong ago in Medieval Times, a war broke out between man and demon. The land turned red with the blood of the innocent. Burned and marked by the fire of war. Many lost their homes, many more lost their lives. It was a violent and depressing time. The great warrior of man, Edward Burlox II, was sent by the king to travel to the demon country to make peace. When he entered the castle the Demon King was furious. He did not want peace and demanded that the Knight was to be executed. The Knight ran and somehow fought his way out. The Demon King's royal guards chased him into the forest nearby, where they were abused. Edward was unharmed for they did not attack him. The leader of the demon group was a young woman named Eve. They led him to their peaceful village and explained to him that they wanted to be free. He led them to his land in return for their help and explained to the king all that had happened. The king of man declared that the evil demon king and all his followers were to be sealed away. Eve and a priestess named Sara, sealed the king and his demons away. To live in the shadow plain, forever. Cries of joy rang through the lands of both demon and man. Years later Edward and Eve married, tying the knots of the joined force tighter. Thousands of years pasted and the story became a myth. Only the holy and the Burlox family still believe in the story of the Great Demon War. The threat of the demons coming back is still at large.
Now the story goes on when the great-great-great-great-great granddaughter of Edward Burlox II is born. Can she stop the demons or will all hope for man-kind be for lost?
Chapter one
Avery Burlox was born on October 31st. Her mother, Sylvia Burlox, was a beautiful and gentle woman. Her father, William Burlox, was the regular gentle-man with a kind heart and a clever man. Avery grew up around her parents alone. She was kind, gentle and loved animals with a deep compassion. They were her only friends. She started school at the age of four. When the first day of school came around her parents started to feel regret. What if the people there hurt their innocent daughter? Avery on the other hand didn't notice she was far too excited. She wanted real friends to run around a play with. It was a dream come true. More like a nightmare, for everyone would glare at her. She became scared and lonely. Why did they glare at her? What did she do? No one wanted to be her friend. Why?, she would ask herself over and over. She sat alone while the other kids would whisper and point at her. At lunch, sometimes they would through food at her. When she goes home each day, she would cry in her parent's arms until the tears couldn't fall any longer.
Avery let herself be bullied for six long years of torture until one day she snapped. Three kids were sent to the hospital on that day. Soon enough the other kids who tortured her all those years feared her. They shivered when her eyes met theirs and flinched when her hand moved even the slightest. She didn't like everyone being afraid of her but soon learned that it was a little better now that they would leave her alone. Then she started to become distant and cold.
When Avery was 16, her mother and father died in a car accident. The only people who ever loved her were gone forever. She became colder and full of hatred. Avery thought of suicide but decided it was the wimpy way out of life. She knew she was strong and wasn't going to let the people who hated her win. Today (18 now) she lives on her own, hoping one day that her life would get itself back together again. That she could love again, but……..she was afraid of love. What if she lost them again? Would she be able to handle another heart break if was put back together?
Avery has a job that pays well and a small apartment of her own. She's just starting her senior year and glad that she's almost done with the damned school. She's going to school still to prove that she wasn't a coward and just to torture them with her presence. Avery stayed strong but is colder than ever. Her glared pierced the souls of others, her footsteps made them quake in fear, her hands bruised and broke bones. Evil right? No. Just confused.
Chapter 2
It was a fall Monday morning, dawn to be precise. Avery left her small apartment for her usual morning walk. As she walked towards the forest, she was alert. Her piercing ice blue eyes scanned the area carefully, while the wind blew just enough to make her long chocolate hair sway. It felt wonder to feel the breeze caress her cream skin. She stayed alert as she got closer to the forest, for she didn't want people to catch her. Over the years Avery found out that she was able to do things that most couldn't. She could run faster, jump higher, and was stronger than most adult men. Sure she found it odd but she didn't care. It was fun being different but decided it would be better if she kept it a secret. Once her small bare foot touched the deep rich soil of the earth that surrounds the forest, she ran. She gracefully dodged all the trees, brushes and broken branches for she knew the forest like the back of her hand. Avery ran at full speed through the forest. Taking in the rush as her hair flew out wildly behind her. How she loved the thrill of running. Sometimes she would run along the deer if no people were nearby. As she ran she felt eyes on her back, but ignored it and ran faster. Soon Avery came to a clearing where her beautiful waterfall lied. Behind the waterfall was a cave where she hides from the world.
The Sun was rising from behind her, making the waterfall blaze like a fire. She came here every morning just to see this happen. During the fall it was the most beautiful. The whole forest seemed to glow like amber then. Avery stayed there for hours, but quickly left so she could get ready for school. It was the first day again. After she was done, she went out to the bus stop where all the kids on that street would gather and wait. Everyone was smiling and talking about their summers until she came over. It grew suddenly quiet. They were all staring at her and she was becoming annoyed. She hated when people would stare at her. "What are you staring at!" she snapped. They all jumped and quickly looked away….All but one. Avery had never seen him before so he was probably new. He had dark brown hair and green eyes. She had to admit he was cute but she wasn't interested. The bus wasn't going to come for another 10 minutes or so, so Avery decided to sit under a nearby tree and listen to music. She closed her eyes and let the steady beat of the music take her away. The small amount of light on her face was suddenly blocked. Avery opened an eye to see that new kid standing over her. "Can I help you?" She asked coldly.
"Yeah. Who are you?" He answered sweetly taking no offence to her hostile greeting. He understood how they've been treating her and expected that much. He also wanted to make sure she was the right person he was looking for.
"Avery Burlox, and you?"
"Stephen Smith." He smiled. He just looked at her waiting but she didn't plan on saying anything else. She closed her eyes again and got back into the music. When he didn't leave after 3 minutes she snapped at him. "What the hell do you want!"
"You didn't invite me to sit." He answered simply. Avery deadpanned.
"Fine, sit. Just get out of my light."
"Thank you." He said politely and sat down.
"Whatever." She mumbled.
Soon the bus came and everyone ran on. Avery just sighed and started walking towards the bus with Stephen following close behind her. When she stepped foot on the bus it got suddenly quiet again. This made Stephen even more curious about her. Nobody made any movements of sound as she walked to the back of the bus. "Can I sit with you?" He asked politely.
"Huh? Oh, sure whatever." She answered blankly and sat in the very last seat. Avery looked out the window for half the bus ride, but soon enough she couldn't take Stephen's staring anymore. What is with that guy? Why is he staring at me so intensely? She asked herself and decided to find out.
"What is your problem?" She hissed.
"Huh?" He asked snapping out of concentration.
"Why are you staring at my?" She asked coldly.
"You're pretty." He answered simply. She glared at him and looked away. Liar, she thought.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend you or anything." He quickly apologized, sort of panicked. She ignored him.
"Why are you ignoring me?" He asked after a long moment of silence.
"Because you're weird." She mumbled even though she shouldn't even be talking. She was weirder and always will be.
"How so?" He pressed, desperate for a conversation. She didn't answer. She wanted this conversation to end. As if he could read her mind he said, "I'm sorry if I've upset you. We can talk about something else if you like. I would." His voice was sad and desperate. As if he always had a problem making friends. She felt sorry for him. Avery let out a long sigh and looked at him. He looked her dead in the eye. They were sad, filled with sorrow. They almost matched her own, almost. Stephen read her eyes as well and found anger, pain, hate and rage. It made him sad to see such a beautiful girl with so much pain in her eyes. Avery decided to break the silence again. "Why are you so sad?" she asked.
"Because it's sad to see you in so much pain and rage." He answered.
"How did you?" She was shocked. He smiled and continued.
"You're not the only one who can read people." She smiled very softly which made his grow. "You should smile more often. It makes you look even more beautiful."
Her eyes widened and blushed like mad. Avery quickly looked away. He laughed slightly then tried to make her feel more comfortable. "I'm not trying to hit on you or anything. Just giving some friendly advice. "Oh." Was all she was able to say.
"Could we be friends?" She quickly looked over at him in shock.
"You want to be friends with me? Why?" She asked unsure.
"Because I like you. You've been nice to me and we both don't have any friends." He explained. It made since to her. She smiled truly
"Thank you. I would also like to be your friend." His smile warmed her cold heart and her life slowly progressed from there.
Chapter 3
About 7 months into the school year, everyone was busy and miffed at the world. In fact, it was probably because of the idea that they had been through seven months of school that they were feeling so on edge and grumpy. Avery and Stephen were inseparable now. They loved each other like the siblings they never had. Hell, they live together like family. Everything was perfect so far, and things just got better when they got tonight's concert tickets to the best band ever. (Insert your favorite band here). Now all she had to do was wait for school to end. Book it back home, get ready, and drive down to the concert area with Stephen.
"Come on bell ring!" there was only 20 seconds on the clock. Avery waited anxiously for the damn bell to ring. Come on! Come on!, she thought.
DING
Avery got up and bolted towards the door but stopped when her teacher's shrill voice called her name. Ms. Hummers was her annoying English teacher who was a bitch to most. They hated each other, but since she had a concert tonight she had to be nice. She did NOT want to get detention tonight.
"Yes Ms. Hummers?" she asked as nicely as she could. On the inside she was puking. This teacher didn't deserve to have people to be nice to her. She was just plan evil.
"Ms. Burlox, your grades are dropping. I want you to stay after school and study tonight."
"What? NO!"
"No?"
"Yeah, no! I'm not missing the concert I've been waiting for 3 months to go to! So no!" Avery turned to leave the room.
"Stop right there young lady."
"Screw you!" and with that she bolted out of the room.
"Get back here!" she squawked.
"Never!" she laughed evilly and booked it out of the building where Stephen was waiting. He smiled and started to run to the bus with her.
"On the run from Ms. Hummer again?"
"Yup!" she grinned widely and hoped on the bus. People were less afraid of her now. Yay!
*********
After they got back to the house, they both toke turns taking showers and got ready. About 2 hours later they were at the concert area waiting in line. All the girls around them were screaming and jumping around. "Do you think we'll even be able to hear the music!" yelled Stephen.
"Don't worry! I'm pretty sure we will!" Avery yelled back.
"I sure hope so! These tickets cost a shit load!"
"Hey! I helped!" He laughed.
"Yeah I know!"
*Meanwhile*
"So you found her?" A loud demonic voice sounded.
"Yeeeesss my Lord." A shrill voice answered. The Demon King let out a booming evil laugh as the shrill voiced demon cackled along.
"Go and bring her to me!"
"Yes my Lord!" The demon left to do as the King order, but little did they know that the spies of the good demon king were watching. They left to tell their master what they found out immediately.
*Back to Avery and Stephen*
"Told you we would be able to hear. They rock so hard core!"
"Hell yeah! Well good night Avery." Stephen waved as she headed upstairs. They were able to pay for a very small house in the forest. Moved away from the noisy city and into the peaceful suburbs. His room was down stairs in the back. As he walked into his room his 'cell phone' rang. He yawned and quickly picked the noisy thing up. When he answered a small picture appeared.
"Yes my Lord?"
"They found her Stephen."
"What but I made her move just like you said." He whispered.
"I know but I'm afraid that now I must send back up."
"Don't you think that would be a little suspious?"
"Not if you explain to her our situation."
"She's not ready to transform yet."
"I know but this is for her own good. Besides she is almost done w/ school."
"As you wish."
"I'm sending Tyrone, Jordan, and Ayden."
"Jordan? Really?"
"Don't argue with me."
"Sorry my Lord."
"Good luck Stephen. You're in charge."
"Yes Master." The image on the king disappeared when three boys appeared.
"HEEEEYYY!!!!" Jordan shouted.
"SHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" The rest whisper fiercely.
"Oh Sorry."
"It's ok she's still sleeping." Stated Tyrone with his ears twitching. Stephen sighed in relief.
"That's good." Ayden looked around the room quietly as the others talked.
"So…..is she hot?" Stephen frowned.
"Yes?"
"Can we just go to bed?" asked Ayden. "You'll see her in the morning."
