Stranger RomanceRogue x Ranger short-story
My name is Liccina and I'm an Elf. I lost my family at a young age due to a bugbear attack. The filthy beasts. After my family's death I ran from my village and became a rogue. I didn't become a rogue right away though. I lived on the streets, worked in the mines; I had to fight to live. I had to steal to eat. The life of a thief was always an adventure, with danger around every corner. I learned to love the thrill of danger. Living on the streets I learned some interesting tricks such as picking locks, lying with a straight face, stealth; Hide my emotions and how to fight when my life is on the line. Sometime I had to fight dirty but hey, its survival of the fittest out here. Being at the age 90 makes you look about 14 in human years. Even though I wasn't the biggest or strongest elf, I was smart and cunning. Most of my kind would train to become rangers, druids or something like that. Me, the life of the rogue was for me. To become official, I had to meet the King of Thief's himself. So I packed up my stuff and left. I said goodbye to all my friends before I left. One of my friends was Rahi, a young half-orc training to become a druid. She has a tiger cub for a familiar. Another would be Robin, a young Halfling who's training to become a sorceress. My final friend was Eridish. She is also a half-orc but is training to become a neutral cleric. I know all my friends will do great in life. After all they had many years t practice and starting at the age of 7 will give them more experience.
"Goodbye my friends." I smiled sadly at their crying forms. They hugged me close.
"You'll be back right?" asked Rahi.
"Of course….In about 20 years…"
"20 years?" They cried.
"The king…when he takes an apprentice he wants them to be the best they can be…I'm sorry" They just cried as I left them at the gate and started down the road.
After 3 days of peaceful traveling of course had to come to an end. A large group of goblins came out onto the path. I just stood still then quickly jumped into the brushes when I realized they didn't see me. I was a good fighter against one to three goblins on my own but not this many. They can be tricky and brave when there is more than three left after you kill one. It was very lucky for me that they didn't have goblin dogs with them. Those vicious disease filled creatures will go after flesh as soon as they swell it. The goblins went off road again, once I was sure that they were far enough away I started down the road again….Well ran anyway. After about another week I finally made it to the city of Morocc. The guards weren't the friendliest but nor was I at the moment. I ran out of food 2 days ago so I'm hungry, tired from my long ass trip and impatient.
"State your business." Ordered the human male.
"I'm tired from my travels and wish to rest and replenish." I stated firmly.
"By the look of you I'd say that you're nothing but a street rat needing a street to make filthy." Snapped the guard. How dare he call me filth? The bastard, but I had to keep calm or I'll never get in without force and that's the last thing I need to do.
"All I need is a hotel, rest and restock then I'm on my way." I said just as calmly as before. This guard was getting on my nerves.
"Oh let the poor child in. She's all but skin and bone." Said the other.
"All elves look as if they're skin and bone. Don't be dumb." As they argued over the body structure of my kin, I sneaked past them and ran deep into the large city. Did I say large? I meant huge. I didn't have any money for food or a hotel. Which was fine, I didn't need it. I've lived on the streets all my life. HA! Money. I searched for the guild of thieves with an eager drive. I ran all over the market place with no idea or clue to where it might be. That didn't stop me though.
I stopped my search at twilight and would start again tomorrow at dawn. During my search I was able to steal my dinner. I grabbed some bread, an apple and some sunflower seeds. As I ate, I heard very light footsteps coming my way. Not only were they light but quick as well. The person was trying to sneak up on me. I pulled out my father's dagger ready to fight. The footsteps stopped suddenly and my instinct was to quickly move. I tumbled forward just in time to have a man land right where I was sitting. I quickly turned around so my blade met his.
"You're good for someone so young…especially since you're a female." He stated in a gruff voice.
"What do you want?" I asked calmly ignoring his sexist comment.
"I've been watching you run all around this part of the city as if you're looking for a very special but hidden place. As well as skillfully steal yourself a meal on your way."
"Years of street lessons."
"So you're a thief."
"I take it you work for the king?"
He lowered his weapon as he jumped back. Then put it away all together. I didn't lower mine or my guard. "You're looking for him aren't you?"
"Indeed I am."
"Very well, follow me." I put my weapon away but stood my ground.
"Why should I trust you?"
"Then good luck finding the King." Damn, he got me there. I didn't travel all this way to turn down an offer like this.
"Come." He said, walking off. I followed him since he was my only lead; we walked all the way to the other side on the city.
"Damn." I cursed under my breath.
"Yeah you weren't even close." He laughed.
"Oh shut up." I growled.
"Watch your tongue girly." He warned.
"I know. I'm sorry. My journey was a long and tiring one,"
"By the look of you I'd say you worked in a mine most of your childhood."
"You're correct."
"How old are you?"
"90."
"Older than me? You expect me to believe that you are 9-"I toke off my hat. "..Oh, an elf, are you?" I nodded. "You better be tough."
"I worked in a mine and was beaten every day of my life. I think I can handle it.
"Very well." Then he stopped at the dead end of the ally and started to poke the bricks in a pattern. The brick wall soon turned into a path. It was fucking amazing. (Yeah it's like harry potter. Sue me! XP)
"Impressive." He laughed and walked down the path. I, of course, followed him. Soon we were in the guilds bar area. The rogues were laughing and drinking. Just being merry. I kept my face strait when they all stopped what they were doing and stared at me.
"Ignore them." I only nodded following him into the throne room.
"What do you've have there Blade?" A loud voice boomed. Dang…No wonder he's king. I can just respect be the sound of his voice.
"A female elf wanting to become a rogue."
"An elf? A female elf?" He laughed.
"Please do not insult me." I said firmly.
""Just how old are you lass?" He demanded.
"90."
"90 huh?"
"Yes."
"Blade."
"Yes my lord?" Blade asked as he walked closer.
"Is she any good?"
"Oh she's good…" He smiled and explained everything that happened today. I stayed blank as the King looked me over as he listened to the story. This was strictly business to me.
"Hmmmmm…I see no reason to why not to have her trained. Will you train her Blade?"
"There isn't much for me to teach her, my lord."
"Well train her until you can no longer train her. Then I will take over."
I kneeled, "Thank you. This is a great honor."
"Rise young elf and state your name."
"Liccina." I stated as I stood up.
"Beautiful name. Now Liccna, do you swear on your life your loyalty to me and the secret of the guild?"
"I swear it."
"Do you swear it on your blood?" I drew my dagger and tore my palm open. "I do."
The king did the same and got up and walked towards me. He then toke my hand, our blood mixing. "You are now one of my daughters, Liccina."
"Thank you, my lord." He nodded and turned towards Blade. "Take her to her room."
* * * * * *
My training with Blade only toke me about 5 years. The kings training lasted about 10 years. I had 5 years to train by myself. I trained myself because every rogue has their own fighting style and such. After all my training was finally over I went back home where my friends were waiting for me. We went on all kinds of adventures. Unfortunately Eridish and I grew farther apart. We started to argue and bicker. She didn't like the way I was or the way of the rogue. I should have ignored her, well I did for the most part, but when she goes on and on about it. You get defensive. One day we signed up for a tournament to spy for our latest mission but I don't want to get into detail about that.
* * * * * * * * * *
I was very happy to discover that my old rival was in the tournament too. Of, course she was within a group with my other team mates rivals. Oh we were excited but they didn't show it. It wouldn't be proper. Blah! Proper my ass! She's going down! XD
"I'm totally going to kick Firla's Ass!" I smirked.
"Will you please take this seriously Liccina!" snapped Eridish. Oh great here we go again. "We need a plan."
"Scared?" I sneered.
"No! I just want to make sure we win."
"Sure, sure. You three come up with a plan."
"What about you?" asked Robin innocently. She was the only one I really liked and saw as a true friend.
"Just make me invisible and I'll bring on the death." I smirked.
"We don't have to kill them." Stated Rahi.
"Well if they don't surrender or fall unconscious in time they will die." I shrugged and walked off.
"Damn it Liccina." Eridish cursed under her breath. I laughed as I left. As I walked through town I saw a nice little bar.
"I think I'll have a drink." I smirked and walked in. A few guys looked at me and some even winked. They were at least smart enough not to try and grab my ass. I was loaded with dagger and had quick reflexes. A man walk-..Stumbled over to me and said "Het there pretty thing. Wanna have a drink?" He was clearly drunk. T_T Men…
I smirked and put my blade to his throat before he could blink. He was scared now. Heh. "Not every female is easy but what is easy is how easy I can kill you right now. With just a little flick of the wrist."
I think I almost made him shit his pants. Oh man how I loved doing that. I put my dagger away and he left fast then a wizard with a displacer beast. A man on my other side laughed. I toke the seat next to him, turning towards him. He was an elf like me…A handsome one at that.
"Sharp tongue and a quick hand I see. Impressive."
"Thanks. Rum please." The bartender nodded.
"I don't believe I've ever met an eleven female rogue before. It's very rare I take it."
"You just have to be tough or you'll get killed before you become popular." I explain taking a swing of my rum. "Besides," I continued, "I like being different. Becoming a ranger is so…so common."
"Grow up on the streets?" He asked.
"And in a mine."
"Harsh." I laughed at that.
"Only if you're a wuss and can't take it." He laughed too.
"Being a ranger isn't easy either."
"Sure, sure."
"I'm serious."
"How so?"
"Well….." I waited. "There's…."
"That's what I thought" Then slammed the rest of my drink down.
"Uhhhh…I think your drink was drugged…"
"Yeah I know. That's why I switched it with yours." I laughed as he dumped his drink.
"What's your name?"
"Liccina."
"Beautiful name."
"Thanks and yours?"
"Chex."
"Nice."
"It means a lot coming from you, my beautiful lady."
"Lady? I'm no lady?"
"How so?"
He smirked as I did. I punched the guy behind me for no reason at all. Chex gave me the WTF look."Duck." I mutter and ducked, but Chex ended up getting punched in the face.
"Bar fight!" I yelled as I broke a bottle of rum over another man's head. Then all hell broke loose. Everyone got up and started to punch each other, chairs and drinks were flying everywhere. Chex and I were fighting back to back. "Your right *punch* you're *kick* not a lady!"
"Told you so!" I laughed loudly as I kneed a guy. "The fun has only begun my good sir!"
"I'm scared."
"Coward."
"LICCINA!!!" Yelled a pissed off voice.
"Uh-Oh…" Eridish stormed over to me and grabbed my shirt. God I hated when people do that. So I decided to be a smartass. "Yes?" I asked innocently.
"Don't try that with me! You started this didn't you!"
"Maybe.~" I giggled at her red face…well brown face. (Green red=brown. LOL XD)
"Let's go!" and with that she dragged me away.
"Bye Chex!" I laughed when he turned towards me. (His face-o_O)
Anyway! Eridish and the rest, *COUGH* mostly Eridish, scolded me about starting fights and blah-blahblah-blahblah! I'm 115 years old damn it! I'm not a child! GOD! ><
* * * * * * * * *
It was after our fight with the monster and I decided to go for a walk through town. Of course after a bath. That thing tried to eat me. It ate Eridish! HA! Once I was in I made sure not to get swallowed and pulled Eridish out of its belly. I didn't even get a thank you! No, I get yelled at for flipping off the crowd because they cheered when we were eaten! Grrrrr…I should have left her in its belly…
My thoughts were interrupted by a man blocking my path. Another flirt I bet…>< just what I need…ugh.
"Hey babe, where you from?"
"None of your business."
"Aw don't be like that." Damn I really don't want Eridish to bitch at me because she always seems to show up every time I start a fight! EVERY TIME! ><
"Oh there you are darling! I've been looking everywhere for you." I looked over my shoulder and saw… Chex? He winked…Ohhh I get it.
"Sorry dear I got lost." He smiled and pulled me to him…rather close.
"I guess you'll have to stay closer then." He whispered. Was he…was he trying to seduce me? While acting? WTF? I couldn't help but to blush. Damn Him!>////<
"Sorry Chex. I'll keep that in mind." His finger tips gently lifted my chin…His eyes met mine. Shit. He was way more handsome in the light than that dark bar…Crap monkeys, I'm blushing more!
"Be sure that you do, Liccina." Then he kissed the side of my mouth, on my cheek really, making it look real. Damn the man was good but by now my face was surely red..Crap. At least the man had fallen for it. Thank god! But now…I have a smirking Chex before me…double crap.
"You're blushing Liccina." I pulled away.
"So what? I blush, big deal." I quickly turned away from him and crossed my arms. He came up from behind me and hugged me.
"I think it's cute." He whispered sweetly in my ear. I felt my face flush. How could this man make me blush like this. "You fought well today…" He continued.
"You saw the fight?"
"Yes…" His grip tightened slightly."When I saw you get swallowed by that monster…I was so afraid."
"Heh." I slipped out of his grip and faced him smirking. He smiled lightly back. "I'm stronger than that."
He walked closer to me smiling warmly. "That's good to here." I felt sick to my stomach for some reason suddenly…but..It feels good? I'm so confused…>< . I felt my stomach frowning making Chex frown too.
"You ok?"
"I think so…my gut feels..Weird.."
"Weird?..."
"Tingly?..."
"………." He started to laugh, grinning widely.
"What!" I pouted. There might be something wrong with me and he laughs! Jerk>< .
"It's called 'Butterflies' and you get them when you're nervous-"
"I'm not nervous-"
"Let me finish. Nervous or when the person you're crushing on is near…"
"..Meh? I crush people all the time and never felt like this…"
"No, a crush is a person another person is falling in love with."
"………..That makes no sense."
"Here, in simple terms: You like me."
"Sure I do. I didn't kill you for touching me, did I?"
"I meant that you are falling in love with me." He stated grinning cheerfully. I backed away, mouth a gap. Whaaaaaat! No way!
"I don't know you!" He stepped closer.
"Then get to know me. I like you too." I felt weird again…butterflies?...again when he smiled at me like that. I also felt me face heat up.
"Whoa there boy. I….uhhhh..Shitshitshit!" God I don't know what to do! >< What do I do!? Well I guess he knew, because he pulled me to him and kissed me….God I don't know what to do…but…it felt good. The butterflies in my stomach, apparently, went NUTS! How could something so weird feel so good? So I closed my eyes and enjoyed the kiss. I've been kissed before but never like this…Holy crap… He pulled away and stared at me. I was lost for words, movements…anything.
"How was that?"
"…I can't even tell you…"
"Good or bad?"
"…..Good.." I murmured very quietly.
"Good." His lips met mine again before taking me to his hotel room.
A good kiss, an amazing night….
