Description
long story short... UUGH SEASON 2 WHHHHY?!I could not STAND what they did to her in Season 2. Nose Marie is by far my favorite character in Pound Puppies. Saucy, Firey attitude, flirtatious, slight vanity issues, and above all... hard headed southern belle.
WTF SEASON TWO?! She went from Scarlett O'Hara to PleasantVille Mom! They dropped all her best qualities and made her the mother figure who only lives to take care of everyone else. LAME!
Her former self agrees >> see? *points up*
I despised season 2 for many reasons, the rape of Nose Marie's character only being one. It lost it's edgyness. Sure, the animation got a lot better, but it just wasn't thrilling anymore. No more epic plots or parody's of James Bond and Casablanca...
Okay, rant done.

Here are my theories:Β
they provably change it to keep the relationship of nose mary and cooler Β separated
(Also brain washing lil girls to be moms in the future),Β
or maybe now she is in season to mated to cooler?,
there for having her new motherly tender personality
that cooler may like more, for there she changed for love?
at least they kept the same voice actress i think...
or maybe they looked at her as a negative role model
(you know how stupid parents go against cartoons.)Β
been a lil to self centered and cocky for some one that
is suppose to be helping others, also belive and think
they where turning her int o a racial stereotype that wasn't well seen so they change it.
my favorite theory is that Β since beenΒ Saucy, Firey and flirtatiousΒ wasn't really working
to get cooler's attentionΒ she did a total change in personality and looks, turning
Saucy into humble, flirtatious into caring, and firey into Modest.Β
Also what the heck happen to Bright Eyes? she shrunk down in size and age!.
i guess been a blond airhead was also not a good image so they change it to
cute lil naive easily persuadedΒ girl... that does not sound good either so i dunno.Β

It WAS Probably some mother organization that did that, you know a group of mothers and some other people protesting against the character for a bad example to their kids.

Yeah, season 2 was just....bleeeeeeeeegh. Granted, the entire show was silly to begin with because come on; POUND PUPPIES. But at least the first season had FUN with some of its concepts and I don't know, the parodies that they made, made SENSE. Everything in season two felt like they were trying too hard to make the entire show family-friendly, but in attempting to do that they created some of the most bland characters ever. Even Cooler wasn't as funny anymore and he felt more forced in his role of main character. Whooper and Bright-Eyes were turned into kids, Howler was HARDLY seen anymore and I never, even to this day, got the entire point of why Katrina owned the pound. Didn't she HATE dogs to begin with? Aside from that, if she owned the pound, wouldn't she be more motivated in selling all the dogs and making as much profit as she could from them? Why try to keep the dogs IN the pound and earn NOTHING?
But yes...this was one of the worst character reboots ever because the sassy Marie was actually, well, BITING. She was funny, she could bounce off of Cooler's snarky comments and aside from that, she was just plain funny. The season 2 Marie was all Doey-eyed with no other motivation other than being the mommy role. Seriously, why not just start a new version of the Pound Puppies (Ya know! Like the current series!) with new characters that were original rather than just taking established ones and ruining their characters. Heck, even the first Pound Puppies special stuck closer to the season one personalities than season 2 and the theatrical movie.

I remember nostalgia critic ripping on the pound puppies show mercilessly, so I checked out an episode from season one and thought "It's really not that bad, it's good enough" but maybe Nostalgia critic grew up watching season two

I think that was just the movie though since he really didn't get into the original series or the special that came out before that in the 80s.

I suppose. Also with pound puppies, there was a lot of continuity error among all three seasons.

Don't let Season 1 Nose Marie (or anyone from the show) watch the the legend of big paw, she be like this to the producers, directors, and writers: "You guy's... Did watch the show right?"

Actually, I completely support your stance on this! THIS was extremely disappointing to me as well. I LOVED classic Nose Marie...and then they took ALL the spice out of her and made her blander than white rice. ...very upsetting

At least she didn't change her shape so much.
What about my beloved Bright Eyes? They literally shrinked her and changed her eye color.
I would be glad of you would draw a pic of her change too.

I did Start out on season 2 and 1 (re-runs wise).
loved 1 much better, it seems more memorable. I loved season 1 bright eyes.
If i were to make a new season or film based on the original gang, i would aim for the season 1 looks since most positive reception is of the original designs.
Plus the emotions that season 1 had.

But you know what was the worst thing about season 2?
No Captain Slaughter!
I mean its Optimus Prime's voice Peter Cullen as a psychotic Puppy and Kitten napper. His appereances were without a doubt the best episodes of Season 1.

I agree, I was not impressed with the second season of the original "Pound Puppies", there was no explanation to the changes in the story plot, settings and character traits. I hate when second seasons do that. Like how did Katrina gain ownership to the Pound and what reverted Bright Eyes from an adult to a pup? As well as why and when did Nose Marie change from a southern belle to a 50's sitcom style mother figure? Also in the first season, the Pound Puppies were O.K. with cats (aside from Catgut of course), but in season 2, they had a prejudice towards all cats.
Well anyways, nice job on the pic.

I have to agree. What this show had done between seasons was awful. The animation was better what at what cost, their soul thats what. fav for obvious reasons. On a related note, did anyone here about the NEW new pound puppies on Hub Network.

I agree with Godaiger, season two is a paralell universe and thus can forgive the changes. however I liked season one over all for the same reasons you all did. on the other hand I did like season two Bright Eyes a bit more, her speach pattern wasn't as cutey and she was able to be sarcastic. check out my picture called "Omniverse" for more on my opinions about alternate realities if you like.

yah...evrytime they made him say that was like watching a train wreck. Sad atempt to make him look cooler. *rolls eyes* he was cooler by himself.
But yes I saw Nose Marie as being the one who really got her charicture robbed. She was so much better as a flertasiuse Southern Belle. (and they F-ed up her outfit! which by the way rocks in you images. I love the opage skirt rims)
sorry for the long rant. I used to love Pound Puppies when I was 5-6. and It just ticks me that they screwed it over in season 2. Probiby woulda lasted longer if they left it as is.

Well, once, long long ago in a galaxy far far away, I wrote a fanfic, by hand, which included the Pound Puppies, and I sorta came up with an explanation about the differences between Season 1 and 2. It involved a mishap with the disguises machine that Howler invented; there was an overload because Bright Eyes tried to work it by herself, she was caught in the transformation beam (completely changed her character and shrunk her), while Cooler and Nose Marie tried to grab her but bounced off the beam (their noses were affected) while Howler grabbed Whopper just in time (neither of them were affected). Also, thanks to legal loopholes, Katrina took over the pound, even though it belonged to Holly. She couldn't actively shut it down, so she did the next best thing: try to run it into bankruptcy.
The Legend of Big Paw movie wasn't so much a different continuity, it just took place 30 years before the TV series ("In the rockin' 50's", said Whopper). Adult Whopper, by the way, was not the same Whopper as the pup with diapers, nor were Cooler, Nose Marie or Bright Eyes. Perhaps they were their parents or grandparents, just like Jeff and that other girl might have been Holly's parents.
Don't get me started on Whopper's family tree, though, lol...

Jose-Ramiro In reply to iamthejam [2009-08-26 12:00:33 +0000 UTC]
Heh, nice explanation.
And yeah, Katrina would do that; since she was Holly's legal guardian, she had some authority over whatever business or property Holly inherited until the girl became legally adult.
