Description
This is a render of mine; as part of a design processOne might think, they look so similar, what is the difference? Well, a few technical things; N64 had arguably better 3D ability. The PS1 lacked a z buffer (3D polygons could not be calculated on the forward and back axis, and developers had to account for that, to prevent polygon overlapping). They both calculated light similarly, but different.
Not only did they have different 3D processing abilities, but also differences in texture. The N64 had antialiasing, the PS1 did not. The N64 was also limited to smaller textures (64 x 64 at the biggest). This gave each console a very unique look; the N64 had smaller, but softer textures (Jolly Roger Bay from Super Mario 64 is a good example, it has lots of stretched textures). The PS1 had much larger but sharper textures.
Here's a good example: NASCAR 99 (Nintendo 64 vs Playstation) Side by Side Comparison | Vc Decide - YouTube
NOTE: I absolutely LOVE palm trees and finally got to see real palms and real tropics, so happy. So excited!
