One of my Avatar: The Last Airbender oc's. I was trying to figure some stuff out for a fanfic I was writing, so I decided to draw her a ref sheet. Probably won't post the fic, but I liked how this turned out.

Zipora is the youngest child of Ozai and Ursa. Her name means "Bird". She's twelve- a few months younger than Toph.

While Ursa didn't want another child, Ozai insisted because he felt that his children were slipping out of his control. That is where little Zippy comes in- Ozai now has a child who is meant to be under his grasp. Zipora is very shy, and she is physically a very small child. She just has a tiny build. She really only feels comfortable around her siblings, uncle, and cousins. Eventually Mai and Ty Lee get into that orbit, but not her parents. Ursa treats her with some level of detachment, and she is ultimately terrified of her father. Zipora is never allowed out of the palace, ever, and she wasn't even sent to school. Instead, she had tutors and around-the-clock guards. She hasn't set a foot outside the palace in her life. As a result, her only real friends are the birds.

(I don't pick random names for my oc's, y'all). There is an aviary on the grounds, and originally it was just for show. Such as, people visiting the palace could marvel at all the exotic birds and stuff in there. Well, one day, Zippy finds the aviary and quickly falls in love with the birds. She's about five, and she just feels like the birds are people. She never really grows out of that, and eventually the birds become her family, too. She gives them names and treats and spends every moment most people would spend socializing in the aviary. Her two most favorite birds were gifts. Fa, an eagle-hawk from Zuko, and Bai, an albino sparrowkeet from Iroh.

While nowhere near the prodigy her sister is, Zipora is quite good and studies very hard. She is able to master lightning at a very young age, though of course that doesn't impress Ozai because Azula mastered lightning at, like, nine or something. After Azula, Zuko, Lihua (Lihua Ref Shee t) and Iroh are gone, she is completely isolated. Ozai is angry that Azula is gone, because she was his little prodigy, and now he only has Zipora to focus on. How he treats her seems to swing on a pendulum, from treating her like Zuko when she dips below his expectations and treating her like Azula when it will get her to do something he wants. The burn on her arm? There was an examination that she passed with flying colors, yet it was not up to Ozai's standard, and he was having a particularly bad day. He grabbed her arm mindlessly while reprimanding her and his hand just heated up and left the scar. He convinces himself it's an acceptable punishment. Zipora hides the scar beneath a bandage and whenever someone asks, she just lies through her teeth.

She is, also, a HUGE fan of Avatar Kyoshi (ha-ha pun not intended). The Kyoshi doll was a gift from her father on her ninth birthday (which just so happened to be a week after Zuko's Agni Kai), and she quite cherishes it because it is a very beautiful doll (in theory. The drawing is so-so lmao). The fans are tessen, metal war fans (like Avatar Kyoshi used). They were gifts from Azula and work very well with firebending. I apologize- I can't speak or read Chinese, and I've never learned how to write it so please don't hate me for how bad or inaccurate the writing (probably) is. The first fan says, 'little bird' and the second fan says, 'sharp claws'.
