I envisioned there to be a sister organization to Star Fleet in the Federation specifically designed to provide policing and investigation services over Federation territory in areas not directly within the jurisdiction of a Federation member world. This would include Federation Colonies created after the Federation was established and have a population comprised of many different species and cultures from across the Federation. Worlds colonized before the inception of the Federation by a particular species -- such as Vulcan, Andorian, and Human colonies -- and are subsequently dominated by that species remain under legislative and administrative control of the races home world would have policing institutions provided by their respective worlds until the colony develops to a point where it may become an independent world and a member of the Federation in its own right and separate from the species home world. Tentatively titled the Federation Police Service, this organization would operate along established trade routes and on the frontier colonies not covered by the aforementioned species specific policing services. This service would maintain an active personal exchange with Star Fleet to provide a wide variety of skills and experience to both organization. The FPS would have its own logo -- likely a combination of the Federation logo and a US marshal's badge or similar representational badge (to be added). The uniform colour would be exclusively Navy Blue without any other divisions such as those in Star Fleet.
