Description
Lexi walked along the sidewalk to the Moonshine Bar and Grill. Her gaze was immediately drawn towards a blinged out pickup parked at the curb. It was a full sized Chevy Silverado with extended cab, painted a menacing shade of matte black. No doubt the latest toy little Miss Everything had gotten from her daddy.Lexi's stomach felt queasy. After not speaking for seven years, what was Savannah going to do? Ignore her? Kick her ass? Pretend that nothing happened? The possibilities were endless.
There was still time to change her mind. She could walk back to her rental, drive to the airport, and be back in her home in Atlanta by midnight. But Lexi was done being a coward. It was time for closure.
Lexi heard the swell of country music as she approached the bar. It was a cold night, and she walked briskly towards the entrance. She rubbed her bare arms to ward off the cold. She was used to Atlanta weather and should have worn a jacket. She had forgotten how cold Texas could get during an October night.
The petite brunette entered the bar. Lexi scanned the crowd as she let her eyes adjust to the dimness, and she ignored the smiling hostess' greeting.
“I'm meeting some people,” she said, waving off the hostess.
The bar was at capacity and there was hundreds of people gathered about, laughing, talking, and drinking, but within seconds their gaze met.
Savannah Hill's muscular body always had a hint of doughiness, but in the years since Savannah's college softball days her figure had softly mushroomed out, adding weight to her bubble ass and thunder thighs. The big blonde carried the extra weight well and looked absolutely fantastic. As Lexi locked eyes with Savannah's, Lexi reminded herself that this was the woman who threw everything they had away for Zach Brady; the woman who hid their relationship for four years. Lexi wanted to cry and scream and launch herself at Savannah like she did so many years ago.
Lexi wove through the crowd, ignoring KC who appeared at her side.
“Calm down Lexi.”
“I am calm. I'm not excited. Ya'll know when I'm excited.”
KC grabbed her arm. “Lexi I don't know what ax you have to grind with Savannah Hill, but it's not worth it. Savannah is a fat loser. Just let it go and hang out with me. You won't go thirsty. I'll buy you drinks all night long.”
“I don't need a fucking chaperone.”
Savannah sat at the Moonshine Bar and Grill with Charlotte. When Charlotte announced the wedding over a year ago, the date had seemed so far away and it seemed that it would never arrive. But now that she was going to see Lexi Ryder for the first time in years the situation seemed surreal. A lot had happened in seven years. Savannah joined the state troopers, got married, got divorced, won three amateur powerlifting state championships, and put on forty pounds which went straight to her ass.
“Thank god for Spanx,” Savannah remarked to Charlotte, as she sipped her Corona.
“Every tush needs a push,” Charlotte agreed. “Try not to flatten Lexi when you see her.”
“I think she learned her lesson,” Savannah said, nursing the Corona. At least she hoped so. Was it possible to repair their relationship, and return to what they once had?
“Yes you hit her so hard you almost knocked her wig off,” Charlotte agreed. “She'll probably piss herself when she sees you.”
As Savannah chatted with Charlotte, she glanced around the bar. She couldn't wait to see Lexi.
Finally Savannah spotted Lexi at the door, and their eyes met. Lexi was still so fucking pretty.
“You didn't tell me she went brunette.”
“That's old news. Lexi's been wearing brunette wigs for a few years now.”
“The brunette hair looks good on her. She looks stunning!”
“Just take it easy and be civil. You don't even need to talk to her if you don't want to.”
“I want to.”
Lexi pushed through the crowd. Charlotte's kid sister KC was hanging on her arm, but Lexi brushed her aside. Savannah was normally easy going, but Lexi was known for having a mercurial temper.
Suddenly Savannah was face to face with her ex lover. Miranda Lambert's White Liar was blasting through the bar's sound system. Lexi said something, but Savannah couldn't hear her.
Savannah hopped from the bar stool, grabbed Lexi by her slender shoulders, and pulled her into a bear hug.
“I missed you so much and you look fuckin' amazin',” Savannah whispered in Lexi's ear. Lexi's hair tickled Savannah's face, and she smelled the familiar lilac scent of Lexi's wig shampoo.
Savannah and Lexi were both short, roughly the same height, but Savannah was nearly twice Lexi's weight and girth. Savannah crushed the petite girl against her breasts. After all these years, she didn't want to let Lexi go. Never again.
Finally Lexi pushed away and wiped her eyes with her hand. With the brunette wig Lexi bore a stronger resemblance to her mother Ally. In college Lexi had always worn a blonde wig.
“Hello Savannah. Hello Charlotte.”
“That was good Lexi,” KC purred, as if praising a dog. “Now let's go get a drink.”
Savannah watched as KC pulled Lexi away. Lexi seemed to be in a state of shock, and Savannah could not read her emotions. All Savannah knew is that she wanted to whisk Lexi away. Fuck the rehearsal dinner, fuck the wedding, she just wanted to hold Lexi in her arms all night long.
“I'm going to join them,” Savannah announced. “I haven't seen her in a long time, and I want to catch up.”
“Give her some space,” Charlotte said. “You're my Maid of Honor. You should be worried about me, not Lexi Ryder. In a few days she'll be on a flight back to Atlanta, and you'll be done with her.”
“This is your idea of fun, keeping two of your best friends separated? I'm a big girl Charlotte. I can be civil.”
“Don't break her heart,” Charlotte said.
Savannah's cheeks reddened and she turned to Charlotte. “What did you say?”
“You heard me the first time. Don't lead her on if you don't mean it. Don't break her heart again. Or this time I'll help her kick your ass.”
“I don't know what you're talking about,” Savannah lied.
“Savannah I know why it didn't work out between you and Zach. It wasn't the cheating, that was just icing on the cake. You married him because your Daddy want you to marry him, and you're a Daddy's girl. You had to marry the quarterback when you were in love with Lexi the whole time.”
“She told you?”
It was supposed to be a secret. Savannah liked Lexi, but she wasn't gay. There was only one way Charlotte could know. Lexi must have told her.
“Lexi didn't say a word to me,” Charlotte replied. “Anyone could see how you two felt about each other, except maybe your father who was in complete homophobic denial. I'm tired of pretending otherwise. Either come out of the closet, or continue being miserable. Just don't hurt Lexi.”
“I'm going to go talk to Lexi, but I'm not gay.”
“Fine. Keep lying to yourself.”
“See? I told you she got fat,” KC remarked as Lexi slid into the booth across from her. “Why are you acting so weird?”
“I haven't seen her in years.”
“I need you to focus Lexi,” KC replied. “Focus on getting drunk. Then I will have my way with you.”
“I'm not some gay novelty. I don't just spread my legs for any woman that buys my a drink.”
“I'm not just any woman,” KC purred. “I'm the total package!”
“All right. I'm going to get us some drinks,” Lexi acquiesced. “I'll be right back.”
Lexi slid from the booth and made her way towards the bar through the crowded club. As she approached the bar she snuck a glance backwards. KC was watching her.
Lexi scanned the bar and found a candidate seated on one of the bar stools. He was a good looking guy that Lexi estimated to be in his early thirties, dressed expensively, arm lifted just so, so the soft light of the bar casually reflected off his diamond studded Rolex. His yuppy eyes flitted back and forth as he desperately searched for a new conquest.
He checked Lexi out as she approached, and smiled a smug smile. She forced a smile in return and attempted a Savannah Hill hip wiggle.
When Lexi was three feet away the guy launched his pickup line. “Could you please get away from the bar? You're so hot you're melting all the ice.”
While inwardly Lexi gagged, outwardly she grinned triumphantly.
“Hi,” she purred. “Ya'll know the blonde I was with?” Lexi subtly nodded her head towards KC. “Her name is KC and she wanted to say hi, but she's a little shy.”
She watched as Mr. Rolex calculated the odds. He seemed interested in Lexi, but didn't want to pass up a sure thing.
“Thanks babe.” Rolex jumped from his stool. Lexi had just bought herself at least five minutes, maybe more. She rounded the bar and headed to the restroom.
