Eddie graduated high school at age 17 and enrolled into Valencia College in Orlando the following year, majoring in Music with a focus on the guitar and minoring in Higher Education with a focus on music. During her junior year at university, Eddie's boyfriend Dustin, who recently graduated from a technical college, would stop by from time to time, meeting Eddie at her car and surprising her with an old silly line he'd used a few years before. Every other day for six months, Eddie could rely on seeing Dustin waiting for her after her classes ended. It was to the point that she added his visit to her weekly schedule just to keep herself oriented, and it went pretty well...until the day it didn’t.
One Friday morning, Eddie was expecting Dustin to be at her car, but he was nowhere to be seen. A text message to him was answered with the explanation that traffic was holding him up, and he would meet her at their usual lunch spot. Before she could get in her car to leave, Eddie took notice of an old man wandering the school parking lot, seemingly lost. When she offered assistance to locate his granddaughter, she was grabbed from behind by a large figure, a massive arm wrapping itself around Eddie's upper body and effectively immobilizing her arms. A gloved hand fell over her mouth and muffled her screams as the old man moved to stand in front of her in a more confident manner. He tells her he would have preferred to put her to sleep with chemicals, but her body's natural immunity to any foreign poisons meant more painful means would be necessary, and at a nod from the old man, her captor put her in a sleeper hold, and she faded to darkness.

When she woke, it would be the beginning of a months-long ordeal of being subjected to unethical experiments perpetrated by a bioterrorist organization known as SAGE. These included gene therapy, augmentation, splicing, infusions, and various means of "breaking" her to make her more malleable to their control.

Though she eventually escapes her captors with the aid of M.A.A.R.S. agents, Eddie came out permanently changed.

Eddie's healing factor could not keep up with the various invasions of foreign substances into her bloodstream and simply began to adapt many of the DNA samples pumped into her body until it rewrote her, enabling her to shift into an animalistic form to best utilize new instinctive abilities from the varied animal genetics within her.

White Wolf – (ears/nose/legs) Hearing and sense of smell; enhanced agility
Wild Cat – (eyes/claws) Sight and agility
Bat – (wings) Echolocation in the dark
Eagle – (feathered wings) True flight (with running leap)
Cobra – (fangs) Mild, non-lethal venom, enhanced "taste" and "smell"
Great White Shark – (gills) Temporarily breathe underwater (maximum 1 hour) and 35mph (56kph) swim speed
Rhinoceros – (thickened skin/strength) Damage resistant; weak spots are in the bends where the shoulder meets the neck, the area immediately below the sternum, and just below the naval.
Kangaroo – (tail) Balance and athletics
Eddie is also infused with an alien metal (shathrium chromate-7) which is visible in Eddie’s nails/claws and on two large, scythe-like blades that grew out of Chimera’s tail. This metal also coats the entirety of her skeletal structure.
The mingling of her genetic structure with that of multiple animals has also granted Eddie a danger sense, alerting her to imminent threats nearby, and an empathic link to the denizens of nature allowing her to “communicate feelings” with them.

Sometime after her rescue, Eddie was recruited by the MAARS Initiative, a federal organization who's purpose is to ensure that other-than-human citizens obey the law. She served with them from age 22 to 27.
