Description Another fan favorite barbie film of the 2000s and the most successful barbie film so happens to be the very first barbie film, Barbie in the Nutcracker which I kid you not was released 20 YEARS AGO (October 23rd, 2001)! I was 3 years and ten months and in my first year of preschool at the time and had the film on VHS... yup that shows how old most of us that grew up watching the barbie movies during that decade. On a poll I did recently here on deviantart, this film ties with 12 Dancing Princesses as best classic barbie film of the 2000s. Yes I know I'm late and it's November but I did rewatch the movie on the 20th anniversary and I must say, for the very first, it still holds up. In my opinion, unlike the other barbie movies, it has better animation for direct to home media (I mean just look at the animation on Clara's hair, it moves more natural). The characters are great too, the chemistry between Clara and the Nutcracker aka Prince Eric is amazing (and plus, in addition to being a fighter in wanting to take back his kingdom, he's a gentleman), oh and Tim Curry as the Mouse King... just saying. I like how the filmmakers decided to make Clara herself as the sugar plum princess to illustrate her kindness, clever mindedness, and her bravery throughout.

On that note, and being that November technically starts the holiday season, I did Clara and Eric together in their main attire (and ummm his human form) after the mouse king's curse over Parfinia (excuse the miss spelling) is broken. And yes, for Clara's sugar plum princess form, I took inspiration from the original design in the film and Swirk's historically accurate piece on her in which she places her in the 1890s as that was when the ballet premiered. Yes the background is suppose to look magical.
