The smile on her face dissipated as we watched the sun sink further behind the mountains ahead."It's similar to the feeling you get on a street you've been in a previous life".
"Since when did you start believing in anything spiritual?" By the time I realized I was speaking aloud, it was too late.
Her eyes met mine before flashing a grin that deserved to be commemorated.
"No, nothing like that dork.
We categorize our lives in memories. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Over time, what we keep in those categories changes. Whether that be because we discover something more deserving of the slot, or we forcibly overwrite the slide with something easier for us to stomach, it happens.
But- there will come a day you're at a red light, and on the corner, you'll catch a glimpse of one of those old memories- at least- where it took place. And for a split second, you can smell the rum and taste the smoke as though you were still there, that same person.
And then, the light turns green. You snap out of that moment and into reality, starting the same cycle over again.
