Description
Pinpup for the upcoming graphic novel of the collected El Zombo comics by writer Kevin Munroe and ΓΌber talented artist Dave Wilkins, who was kind enough to hire me to create this pinup piece for the book, but also to let me post it on dA (thanks man!) - go check out his work!I'll post an update when the book comes out so you can all chase down a copy
Pencil sketch, painted in photoshop. I usually just stick to really basic brushes in photoshop, but played with a cloud brush I found at [link] for the smoke in the background on this and was very happy with the results.

Not a word often used to describe zombies - not even a zombified Einstein could be called that, but maybe el Zombo is the exception!
Cheers man!

Eempresseevo, Loopydave, although the rotting flesh, she is missing. Otherwise, el caliente, magnifico creation you have here.....you can tell I've never even been to the Northern Hemisphere, let alone Mexico, can't you?
Seriously, quite, quite awesome; you've earned yourself a Fav, good sir/madam/[insert appropriate supernatural or extraterrestrial equivalent].

Thanks for the fave and the mexican! Will put it to good use at the next party I attend (with your blessing of course).
As for rotting flesh - I got him to pose before the rot set in as I cant stand the smell while I'm trying to paint

Zombies are always cool. Dead, disgusting and have a terrible diet, but always cool!
Cheers!

Cool.
Er... I'm probably focusing on the wrong thing here, but is the lettering manually drawn, or a textured font?

Loopydave In reply to Mendicant [2011-07-24 02:41:52 +0000 UTC]
The 'EL ZOMBO' text was hand drawn - couldn't find quite the right font I was after, so I sketched it up on paper, redrew it in illustrator and then imported it into my photoshop file. Added a few spots to it in photoshop to age it a bit.

Hand-lettering? Mucho respects man.
Now-a-days I find myself tempted to delegate lettering to oh-so-freely-available fonts. But then I feel like the presence of dude that taught me lettering (and critically endangered skill of paste-up) staring at me with a mixture of contempt & pity, as if to say "This is why lettering is a dying art!" and I stop, mutter a few naughty words under my breath, and head off to Painter to individually eat away

Well... that was lovely. Accidentally hit "Send" instead of "Preview".
Anyways the last was suppose to be: "eat away two days of my life letter each individual character & trace over every single line by hand."

I also saw this in ImagineFX. I love it. Last weekend I tried to sketch this pic from the image in the mag. Although it didn't turn out as good as this, I still had alot of fun with it.
