Description Inspired by Melville's novel. I finsihed reading this morning.
As a kid whales were my favourite animals and I still think they're simply awesome. I saw the secelton of a sperm whale two weeks ago in Lübeck and it was impressing. Soooooo huge.
Reading "Moby Dick" I of course noticed some incorrectnesses concerning biological facts. Ishmael, the narrator, rejects the idea that whales are not fish (as some weird guys like Linnaeus suggest) for example. But I was impressed how much he tried to be critically and accurate as possible in his description of the "Leviathan". In some matters concerning the sperm whale's lifestyle or the function of his spermaceti organ we don't know much more than people 150 years ago.
