Description
"Hey, hold up! Hermes!"Hermes was quick, and he delivered letters to everyone in town. Surely he could help her with this problem, right? If only she could catch up to the damn feathered wyngro. He was so zippy, hard to catch up to, and she wasn't sure he was even listening.
She skidded to a halt beside him as he stopped to rummage in a set of mailboxes by an apartment unit, gasping for breath. "Hey, Her-"
She was cut off as he flashed into the sky again, seemingly not paying enough attention to hear her. She gritted her teeth, clenching her fist around the envelope she'd forgotten was in her hand. She had had enough of feeling sorry for herself - after that (very lovely, for the record) night with the brown wyngro, she had decided she really just wanted to find Quicksilver. If for her own closure more than anything else.
Before he could get too far, she took in a deep breath, then yelled out as loudly as she could, "Hermes, wait a second!"
The brown wyngro took pause, then turned to look at Alabaster, who was waving wildly with one hand now to get his attention. His expression was quizzical, but he winged down to her anyway. "Yes? What is it? I don't have all day, Heartkindle is a busy time for me."
"Sorry, I just - I have this letter and I wanted to ask if you could deliver it." Alabaster spoke quickly, holding out the crumpled envelope to him.
He took it with some skepticism, smoothing it out and looking at both sides of it. "This doesn't have a name or address on it."
"I know," Alabaster responded bashfully, her ears drooping just a tad as her brow furrowed. "The thing is, I was hoping, since you know most of the wyngrew in Wynsiph, you could deliver it anyway? I don't know her real name, I just know her as Quicksilver, I fought with her in the attack and I wanted to see her again -"
"Hold on," Hermes said, holding up his hand. A look of realization had spread over his face, like he'd recalled something, though it was still paired with irritation. "Quicksilver? You call her that? Is your address written in here somewhere, or a meeting place? Because I will not be taking anonymous messages back and forth again, I am way too busy to get held up like this every day."
"I told her where I live in that, yes!" Alabaster responded, getting excited. "Does that mean you know where she lives? Can you-"
But as soon as Hermes had confirmation he took off again, making Alabaster stumble back from the force of his take-off. "Oooohhh-kaaaaay," she grumbled, squinting at the rapidly disappearing shape of Hermes as he checked mailboxes and moved on fast as lightning, probably to make up for the time he'd lost speaking to her. A grin suddenly split over her face, realizing what this meant. Could it be? Would she finally meet Quicksilver again in person? Now it was just up to waiting for Quicksilver's move.
