Description Last weekend it poured in NYC. I ducked out of the rain into the foyer of the public library to find this archway and another wet soul also waiting for the rain to cease.

This seems like a metaphor for my entire life...as a photograher I am always waiting for the sun...for that perfect light. As a human being, I am trying to weather the storm with the hope of better days to come.

Full view is nicer.

trully a work of art. There isn't much I can comment on...

If there were no other benches there, this would be a master piece imho...

you're awesome.

The color of the picture matches well with the archtecture of the place. The guy is also a complement. Great eye.

funny that i click on this, as i am currently trying to write my high school salutatorian speech and decided about a week ago that i was going to use rain as my central metaphor, but present a view of rain in an unconventional way.

think about it this way: you say that as a photographer you are always searching for the SUN, but why? one of your best photos (this one) has come as a direct result from the rain. If it had not been raining, would that man have been sitting there? Would you have ducked into that library? Would you have caught this amazing image? No. Rain is powerful and just as beneficial as the sun. Use it to your advantage And if you still prefer the sun...well, just know that rain is never not trailed by the sun.

im really loving these soft creamy hues as of late! this really strikes me right in my center. the massive size of the arch and the smallness of the person.. really brings in to focus the greatness of life and yet how small we each play a part in it. this is stunning! wish i could have been there.

Oh wow... I LOVE this picture! The man sitting there seems very deep in thought, and the angle that you used really shows the fine details of the Archway. What really caught my attention though, was the light fixture in the corner.

My girlfriend is travelling to NY this summer, and I really wish I could go along. This picture makes me want to go even more... Awesome job! +fav

Great shot. Its always nice to not only get a architectural element but to also tie in some emotion. I think shots on the fly are some of the best.

Fabulous. The library is one of my favorite places to shoot, because the stone has such great texture. Any light at all dances so nicely off it. I'd love to see the place lit with candles. I don't suppose they'd agree to lighting it that way just so I could snap a few pics, though.

This one is filled with a great quiet solemnity ... a modest peace.

Excellent work on this, Lorraine! I love the textures and contrasts of line and tones, nice geometrics, and of course, the angle and the person add so much drama to this beautiful capture.
