Description
DC Supernatural Horror! In the 1970s, DC comics put out great anthology titles like the “House of Mystery,” the “House of Secrets,” “Tales of the Unexpected,” and “The Witching Hour.” I had previously illustrated the hosts of these great books, so for this piece, I focused on the magic based heroes, ghosts, and anti-hero monsters that populate the darker corners of the DC Universe. Growing up, Deadman, illustrated by Neal Adams and Swamp Thing written by Len Wein and illustrated by Berni Wrightson were two of my favorites. Other interesting characters include Ragman, one of a few Jewish superheroes, who wears a Suit of Souls made of rags. Andrew Bennett, the self-proclaimed “I…Vampire” who is unlike other vampires in that he is reluctant to be one. And the Spectre, who 1970s adventures were controversial for the gruesome violence depicted in them. The list was much longer, but in keeping with the Marvel piece I did that was similar, I picked 13 that I felt worked well together. So here are 13 of DC Supernatural Horrors. Enjoy!
