I’ve seen a lot of different takes on characters in the Lion King fandom over the years, especially not as fleshed out, secondary characters or semi-canon characters. Some have been to do evil twists to them. I’ve seen a lot of evil Kopa storylines, bent on reclaiming the throne as the first born son. With Vitani less so, but I have run across one artist, DJ88, who had a few ideas about how Vitani could’ve grappled with still wanting to carry out Zira’s plot to kill the royal family www.deviantart.com/dj88/art/Ta… and www.deviantart.com/dj88/art/Vi… . However, I’ve never seen an AU where both Kopa and Vitani were the villains, it’s usually just one or the other (mainly Kopa), so I thought why not combine the two?

So for funsies here we’d have Kopa, returned to the Pridelands only to discover that his parents have passed the throne to his younger sister. Kopa feels betrayed and replaced, and believes himself entitled to the crown. After all he’s the true firstborn, it’s his birthright. Vitani, on the other hand, still sees Simba as a murderer and wants to fulfill Zira’s legacy of killing Simba. The two pair up, figuring that it would be beneficial to have an ally in their schemes, since ultimately they want the same thing: to be rid of the royal family and claim the Pridelands for themselves. As such they put or aside or overlook each other’s differences (Kopa being the son of Simba for Vitani and Vitani being an ex-Outlander for Kopa) to complete their goal.

NOTE: This isn’t canon to my TLK universe, this is just a little one off piece I thought might be fun to draw. In my actual headcanon universe Vitani and Kopa are happy and content with their lives in the kingdom, each having fulfilling roles, Vitani as head huntress/part time border guard and Kopa as a royal advisor/diplomat.
